I've noticed lately all the talk of BFF being used as background music for
TV shows (e.g.:Dawson's Creek, The View...). And it reminded me of a
little while ago when I was flipping throgh the channels, and right past
the winter Olympics, when I notice Tom and Mary being played in the
background of this little report on some Olympic gymnist. Did anyone else
notice this? (Did anyone even watch the Olympics this year?)

Ta' ta' for now...

At a show in Palm Beach, Ben introduced
the guy who says "Ben Folds is a fu*kin' asshole"
at the end of the CD.

He's a roadie or a sound guy or something, I forget
his name.

"Nightswimming" is my favorite REM song of all time. A wonderful wonderful
piece. It's similar to Brick in 3 ways--It has a piano, a string section
(Robert used the string bass) it's slow, and that's about it. the topics
are different (nightswimming is about skinny dipping and life in general,
and brick is about going to the vet)and the melody isn't really close.
But it's a great song nonetheless. You should get a copy of Automatic for
the People.

Actually, the "fly fisher" part is totally correct....for one version of
"bad Idea"...you see, there's two. in one he sings the "fly
fisher/dad--siser" lines. in the other one, well, God know what he says.

No i'm pretty sure he's saying "it's the E.C." meaning the East
Coast...Like you know, the EC rappers....they represent. (and don't ask me
WHAT they represent...duh...)

Having been on the Armchair since digest Numero Uno, I've stuck it out
putting up with a lot of bull on this list recently. Namely the over
reaction to the SNL appearance and the less than flattering reviews of
NBP. But these comments from "Frank" FM3 Red5 <FM3Red5@aol.com> are
the straw that breaks the camels back:

> you are the dumbest person on earth...get off the > list you
retard!!!!!...my
> god...hi can we please please have real ben folds > five fans on
this list...my
> god...what is the world coming to...1st fake BFF >fans at the
shows...now fake
> BFF fans on the list...what a world..

> again another stupid fan...does anyone listen to WAEA > till the end
of the
> cd?????
> Its the best song damnit!!!!

> Frank

Just remember that BFF fans come in all different sizes, shapes and
colors. All of us have been BFF "newbies" at one point.

As far as BFF selling out they haven't. Signing with a major label
for the chance of more people being exposed to your music has it
risks. I sometimes feel that getting signed to a major label is a
fate worse then death. More often then not, bands end up getting
screwed by their labels. They either up deep in debt having to pay
back the label for costs associated with promoting them. And the only
way to recover is to declare bankruptcy or breaking up. Or they get
completely ignored by the label and get little promotional support
again being forced to break up to get out of their contracts.

I would guess neither of these things will happen to the boys and I
wish them the best of luck in the future.

I thought it would be cool if everyone was doing some swing dancing at
BF5 concerts. Seeing everyone in suits and dresses paired up and
dancing the night away would probably be a cool rush for the guys
instead of them watching the audience stand and stare. It would also be
a lot better than a bunch of moronic kids moshing to songs like
Philosophy and BOWCCL (what's with that?). Just a thought...

Hello there,
how is everybody? Well, it's nice to hear from some armchair members

I've just got a couple questions I'd like to ask. First of all, anybody
know who Eddie Walker was written about? I'd really like to know, cos
his life sounds really great! Also, when the hell are Ben Folds Five
coming to England? It's taking far too long, they were last here ages
ago, like December last, and well, I can't wait much longer. Chris
Moyles alone can't keep his campaign up, we need a tour from them.
Hope all is well.

They're even discussing Ben Folds Five on the Steely Dan website: (post dated

>>>>Roy--I DO know that this is not the Ben Folds 5 page, but maj just gave us
a nice Steely tie-in. This week's "New Yorker" gives them a feature AND pic in
"Night Life": "Though there's nothing particularly original about this likable
trio from Chapel Hill, its ability to channel 'square' piano-driven pop a la
old Billy Joel and Elton John (and, to be fair, Todd Rundgren and Freddie
Mercury on their pianocentric classics) and marry it to a post-punk
sensibility makes the group stand out from its techno and guitar-powered
coevals like a black-and-white thumb. Singer Ben Folds is a major talent: an
excellent singer and a songwriter of earthly pain." Oh well. How ya gonna keep
'em down on the farm (in Carolina)...? My dream of seeing them here is melting
away. >>>>

Thought you guys might appreciate this.

Pull over the car
Pull over the car
I think I see a fly fisher
Pull over the car
Pull over the car
My dad wants to break up with your sister

(chorus)
I don't wanna
    "
    "
    "
You make me feel
Make me feel retarded

Can't leave it alone
Jerk off on the phone
I want you to come on over
Pretty bad idea
Pretty bad idea
Really really bad idea

(chorus)

When I stood you up
I thought that you'd give up
Now I realize you're just like a dog

You make me feel so retarded

Frank... heh man, chill... there are some people that DO actually like the
band, and DO want to learn a little about it, the person that wrote the
origional in seems like one of them, they aren't "fake" fans becasue they
haven;t been listening to them as long as you. Sometimes it is the person
that is yelling at such aperson that may be a fake fan. Let people learn
more about a band, if they are looing beyond "Brick" then they obviously
want to know more aobut them, I wonder what Ben Fold would say now...
hm... I am truly disappointed in your attitude against new people enjoying
the music, not everybody can be as cool as you, and not every new listener
is a teeny nazi like you think they are, there can be genuine new listeners
just as you were at one time, remember you are talking to yourself a while
