1) THe Gladhands...people generally like that cd, right? I do. I think
its fun. BUt the song that is the catchiest on the cd to me, Gore Girls,
has lyrics that I dont like Im so torn...what do you guys think of it?
2) Havent heard much from this band, Harvey Danger, but what Ive heard,
ive liked, plus the lead singer definetly has a Ben Folds quality to his
voice. THeyd be good opening up for BFF.
Song for the Dumped has been marginally played on my radio station. It
won "suck or not" 9 nights in a row, which is good. Its been played
occasionally, including bitch, beeping F*** you. My mom, who thinks
brick is the best thing happening to BFF (but shes coming around...Im
teaching her about other songs) initially didnt like SFTD until..."and
dont fo-or-ge-etttt" at the end. She liked how they sounded "defeated"

OKay, first post, long time reader, and its not that I'm lazy, I just never had anything that was "list-worthy", until THIS.......
Anyways, I don't know if any one else has pointed this useless bit of knowledge out yet but I came across on Comedy Central a Dana Carvey special where he is showing off his musical talents and making fun of rock stars all at once. But when I first saw i
t I saw Dana Carvey with his head kind of down and as you know hes skinny like Ben and at this particular time had nearly the EXACT same haircut and clothing on as Ben, it seems. So anyways, COMPLETELY CONVINCED I hit the record button, LUCKILY there wa
s nothing in my vcr... But none-the-less, he had me fooled... Just thought I'd add that in...... and if you want a further documentation on this coincidence go to <a href="http://www.geocities.com/sunsetstrip/palladium/3230">www.geocities.com/sunsetstri

OK, just about everyone I know sings a capella, so I forget that I can't
use jargon with everyone. What I meant by percussion and bass were vocal
imitations of both. Sorry I confused you.

I just wanted to point out that BFF writes some fantastic bridges! I especially would like to point out the one in Alice Childress. "No it didn't work out..." A sad, maybe melancholy line with such a bright, optimistic melody countered with the tension
in the chords. Wow. I just thought I'd throw this out there. Does anyone else hear these little serendipities?

There's an article about bands on late night t.v. in April's A.P.
magazine with a mention of Ben Folds Five and a nice picture of them in
front of the Late Show marquee in which Darren puzzlingly looks a little
like Thom Yorke.

they'll come up to toronto again??....ehhh probably not....Umm ok Umm
I guess I'll throw my .02 cents into the emaline ring....I think the
difference in what the lyric sheets say and what we hear might be due
to the version we hear??(feel free to correct me)...Because Emaline
was on the Majosha album and it was also on a single so it's possible
that some words changed over time right?....

Oh yeah Protection is amazing....I like Cool Whip too but I got to
admit it's definitely got cheese factor to it...

Oh yeah I'm really happy I finally got my hands on DOMO BEN CHAN
DESU!!!....you know that rare hard to find 2cd Japanese bootleg....

I guess this is only for fans that live in Toronto but Global channel
41 cable 6 is airing Dawson Creek(I think from the beginning) april 21
at 10 am(don't quote me on dates it's 1:30 am but I do know it's in
april)..so for those who missed the evaporated episode you have a
second chance!...

So that commercial radio station in ballarat seems to have turned against
bff in a way. They play Brick still, but because I've rang up three times to
complain about calling them THE ben folds five, they started calling them
Benjamin folds five, and saying imagine if it was jackson five instead of
the jackson five, then they brought hanson into it, calling htem THE
hansons. So after that I give up on power fm forever (for the second time)
The only reason they play brick is cos the dj loves the song. But he likes
radiohead so he has something there.

Emaline lyric thing: I always thought it was summer champayne, so whoever
said it wasn't. I'm confused.

IRC chat: who goes on?? I go on a fair bit now on all servers. And was
wondering if we ever worked out a meeting time? Or we didn't even consider
it, if not, whoever goes on email me privately.

I got an email from my 4th fave person (next to BFF) DAVID STRASSMAN!! Just
sharing my joy with you.

Anyway I'm gonna go now, see ya all.

Hello Armchairites,

Okay I will make this short, sharp and shiney

1. Hi Clayton...all I can say is "finally"
2. I also heard that Ben wanted to apply for citizenship in Australia,
whether he
was saying that to be nice we will only ever find out when and if he
does apply.
3. Coming from Adelaide I think his choice in cities to admire was
rather
fine.
4. Does anyone know whether Darren or Robert are doing any side projects
while Ben is exploring his orchestral side?

Thats it for me,
Chan XX

Ok, this is a pretty random question - unfortunately having nothing to do with
BF5, but you guys are my last hope. A while back I remember hearing about the
singer of some band doing a solo project called "trout fishing in america."
Now for some reason, I cant remember who it was. So if any of you kind folk
know the answer to this random question, please oh please email me with the
answer.

Just to add to the list, I think it would rule if BF5 covered:
"Catch" - The Cure
"Make-out Club" - Unrest
"Thursday" - Morphine
"Postcard" - The Lemonheads
"slack motherf!#ker" - Superchunk

Oh, I dont think i am the first to say so, but I think that "Kate" would be
awesome for their next single.

Hey all. Just wanted to add to the SFTD rumors....the trade mags are right
on. Song For The Dumped arrived in the mail at KROQ here in LA today,
officially the next single from WAEA. So if hearing Brick get overplayed has
got you down, may I suggest turning off the radio for the next six months or
so because SFTD is going to hit big time with the kids! Commercially, Ben
Folds Five is on a roll.

Tonight I saw Mary Lou Lord at the Troubador here in LA and she kicked ass!
What a great show! And Elliot Smith appeared out of the audience and did a
song with her. That was a pleasant surprise. He will kick ass on Monday at
the Academy Awards. Go Elliot! I'm on such a high from that show. If you're
not familiar with Mary Lou Lord, check her out. She's from Salem, Mass, and
her disc is called "Got No Shadow." That's all outta me. :) Kristen

***** freebird! play freebird! *****
ok, someone alluded to the idea recently, let's expand it.
we've talked alot about cover songs bff should play.
let's put the shoe on the other foot.
here's your assignment:

who would you have perform on a bff tribute album,
and what song or songs would each band play?

would you want a parade of famous bands?
(a la "singles", "the crow" (or about a dozen other) soundtracks?)
would you want a showcase of bands most people haven't heard of?
(like the shonen knife or van halen tributes i've heard?)
perhaps a mix of old and new -- whatever. you decide.

a handful of my suggestions (in some kind of order):
"jackson cannery"	as performed by rage against the machine
"philosophy" as performed by the rollins band
"julianne" as performed by guns 'n' roses (or just axl would do)
"underground" as performed by nine inch nails
"sports & wine"	as performed by the mighty mighty bosstones
"uncle walter"	as performed by the jesus lizard
"best imitation..."	as performed by michael jackson
"last polka"	as performed by the afghan whigs
"boxing" as performed by portishead

"one angry dwarf" as performed by elton john
"brick" as performed by pj harvey
"s. f. t. dumped"	as performed by sebadoh
"kate" as performed by beck
"cigarette" as performed by tool
"steven's ... town" as performed by harry connick jr.
"battle ... less" as performed by billy joel

"emaline" as performed by the lemonheads
"tom & mary"	as performed by paul mccartney
"fanny packs" as performed by the beastie boys
"bad idea"	as performed by quicksand
"ultimate sacrifice"	as performed by europe (or journey)
"satan" as performed by marilyn manson
"twin falls"	as performed by rem or christie front drive

(now try to figure out which were facetious... hehe...)

ok, anyhow, that's my suggestions. how about you guys?
