Hey, i'm in the process of buying tickets for the Beale Street Fest. in
memphis.. i just wanted to ask, did the post say that it was on May 3? i need
to confirm that date before i go crazy and spend forty dollars on tickets..
the fest is a three day deal, and i don't want to get them for the wrong day.
if anyone kept that post or remembers the date, please e-mail me privately.

Fivers,

Just finished reviewing the guidelines for posting to the Magical Armchair
- -- you know, the ones contained in the Armchair Mailing List welcome
message. They're pretty clear and, yea, it's probably a good idea to
review the guidelines now and then for the benefit of all Armchair list
members.

I also want to thank Frank Maynard for putting this list together (Wow,
since mid 1995) because, personally, I find most of the diverse opinions,
thoughts, comments, questions and requests on this list to be refreshing
and, well, f***king stimulating (interpret that any way you want it).

I'm not going to make a big deal out of this since that would be in
contravention of the guidelines but I can't see where the kind of
pretentious stuff contained in an earlier post (903) of the same subject
(State of the Armchair) serves any really beneficial purpose. I'm not on
the "Phish" mailing list and I could care less what they do/don't do on
their list (speaking of irrelevant crap). And let's get real. We don't
need to hear opinionated, "mind uncluttered by thought" put-downs like
"drivel" and "sooo cute" when describing the posts of other list members.
Geez, if one's having a "sanity" issue as claimed hit the friggin' delete
key and spare the rest of us the "drivel" (drivel like art is in the eye of
the beholder). Think we all need to chill-out a bit if we don't agree
w/everything posted and, as the guidelines suggest, "count to ten" before
responding. Okay, that's it. Now I'll assume my usual
cranial-rectal-inversion position. Love BF5 and love this list... Go
Fivers and go BF5,

I am not a homophobe, but I really feel that these petitions on homosexuality
have nothing to do with Ben Folds Five, and I don't appreciate it. This
petition has influenced me to start a petition of my own, to quiet all those
who think that I care about a friggin homo's rights. As I said, I'm not a
homophobe or seriously religious, but I personally feel that homosexuality is
a form of mental, sexual distortion. It is merely a confused person's need to
find security in being different and expressing themselves in a manner which
totally conflicts basic nature. For those of you who feel the same way, let
me know. This crap has no place on a page dedicated to good music!

have any of you seen joel hodgson (formerly of mystery science theater

they're both wearing their thick black glasses. oddly enough, joel's real
brother jim does not look much like ben.

also ben and my friend's neighbor howard are evidently dead ringers.

just fyi, have a nice day, and a happy life.

hey, anyone know the words to the NBP version of BAd Idea? all the
websites list the soundtrack lyrics as the lyrics on the album, but i
still believe that the first stanza is different, and on emaline, all
the webstes say that it is sinking in the summer champagne, but I have
only seen one website post, thinking someone should pay. I think the
latter version is the most correct, jat, chandra

Hi Y'all (how American......)

I am going to Japan in mid-June and I was wondering about the double CD
"Ben Chan Desu" or something and its availability....

I was thinking of purchasing while I was in the country. Also - is there
anything else that is only available over in Japan that may be worth
buying?? I don't know how much money will be left for gratuitous
spending after accomodation and food but I hope I will have enough....

Also - any Japanese fans of Ben and the boys interested in meeting up on
my way around the country feel free to contact me....

Anyway - thank you all for the help which I am sure will be
forthcoming...

Subject: SLEDGE!!!!! and tour dates

Hiya everybody,

I was at a record show in Hillsborough, NC yesterday and I had a
great time. Hillsborough is close to Chapel Hill so I thought, hey...it
could happen, so I took my WAEA cd and as I was sitting at my dad's record
table this guy walks by me and I almost fall out of my chair. He's got
coffee in one hand, David Bowie album in the other, messed up hair and he
was wearing the exact same clothes that I had saw Robert Sledge wear on the
VH1 special. I couldn't believe it.....it was SLEDGE standing a foot away
from me. So I tell my dad to run to the car and get my WAEA cd cover. So
when he gets back with the cd cover I grab a pen and me and my dad finally
track him down for an autograph. He was so nice, he signed it and then said
that they would probably be playing NC 3 times on this tour. He said 4/26
at an all day festival in Charlotte, 4/29 at Duke University, and he said
they might play in Walnut Creek sometime.

***QUESTION***
When I went to the BFF website it says that they play at Duke University but
then out to the side it says Free/Students only. So this question may sound
a little stupid...does that just mean students of Duke University?

Well anyway....I'm so happy!! =o)

Sorry if that post sounded "teenybopperish"...I've just never met any of
them before.

Maria stated in issue #904 that the radio station said the band had not

indeed not feeling well, but BFF management tells me they have approved
three of the selections for air. I believe they are Battle, Selfless and
Kate.

Subject: BF5/Brian Wilson connection?

Just a quick note about a post I saw to the Pet Sounds digest regarding
similarities between Ben and Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys. 'Big
Brother" *is* watching us. I tell you! (Apologies in advance to Bengt for
quoting him here....)

<<So far these are the connections I found out between BFF and BB/BW:

1. BFF's "Where's Summer B?" sounds a lot like "Aren't you glad".

2. Some people on the BFF mailing list (Magical Armchair) has stated that
BFF ought to do some Beach Boys tunes, e.g. "Caroline no".

3. Todd Rundgren has met both Brian Wilson and Ben Folds, and there has
been talk of him producing both of them (separately).

4. Both of them (Brian and Ben) are great piano players.

5. Brian got scared of the fire back in the 60's while recording "Smile".
Ben Folds was "killed in a house fire", not for real, just a
fake story, but if he reads it, he too may become scared...?

6. Another keyword is - versatility.>>

So what do you say, folks? I also hear that Ben has a secretary with the
last name Wilson while Brian's secretary has the last name of Folds.
Coincidence? ;-)

Thats the typical stupid subject i hate to read in the "Magical

you an answer to you question: ever tried to listen to "aqua" (you know,
the barbie girl song), that will make you a good brain-wash and i am
sure you'll enjoy this wonderful song (for those of ya'll who didn't get
it, this was irony ; )) Sorry, stupid question = stupid answer : ) (and
consider yourself lucky cause i dont think it deserved an answer, ha ha)

PS: next time, please don't send again a post like this, it's stupid and
it makes everyone angry. I don't want to be rude but it's actually the
truth (and maybe i am in a bad mood today too)...

I'm sorry, I have to ask, please don't get offended. Does anyone
else think the guys sound like turkey's/chickens in fair? That was
my impression the first time I heard it, just in the chorus.

Also on popularity, virtually no one I know have heard of Bff, but I
had the pleasure of lending the ' Ben Folds Five' cd to a friend who
sounded interested after me telling him about them, I'm yet to hear
what they think.

And lastly, my boyfried bought Whatever And Ever Amen for my for my
