SCHOOL'S OUT FOR {SUMMER | EVER}!!
If the above statement applies to you, be sure to unsubscribe from

Accordingly, very soon I will begin purging the mailing list of any

THANKS A THOUSAND
With the passage of 1,000 issues of the Armchair I'd like to thank
everyone for their contributions to the success of the list. We have a great
group of fans and the band is very appreciative of your support.

<<Also I didn't know about that whole Midday show or whatever
it's called in Australia and the whole scandal with the piano. >>

Yeah...well....I'll just do my bit and explain that one....

As you may well know, BFF did one kick-ass tour of Oz last year (including
one VERY VERY EXCELLENT show at the Livid Festival in Brisbane)

ANYWAY...while they were over here they appeared on the Midday Show. For
those not in the know, the Midday Show is one of Australia's favourite
daytime talk shows (save for the fact that you need to be at least 80 to
watch it!!)

SO...BFF are doing one mighty impressive renditiion of OAD and in his usual
"animated" manner he proceded to throw his piano stool and the baby grand
in the studio.

OH DEAR....AND THEN THERE WAS TROUBLE....the music guy (name escapes me
presently) starts ranting and raving at Ben saying all this crap about how
disrespective and rude they were being. He was going on about the fact that
the youth of today have absolutely no respect for anything and are not
greatful for the chances they are given or something like that.

So there if you were wondering now you know.

I dunno, it kinda reminds me of "Lonely" off of the demos, if you've heard
it. I was listening to it today and I thought, "Hey, that kinda reminds me
of Air!" I have simple thoughts.

Hey--

I've seen a couple of people ask about addresses for MP3s, but I haven't seen
anyone respond with any.

I have http://php.indiana.edu/~wsarles/bffmp3.html, but it's under
construction or something. Anyone know of any other sites? I'm looking
specifically for BF5 tunes not on S/T, W&EA, NBP. Help?

Subject: The band's policy on exchange of live recordings

The band's management have asked me to remind everyone that any sort of
profiteering, be it financial or material (blank cassettes) from Ben Folds
Five show recordings is considered to be an unfair practice and that takes
advantage of the band's liberal policies.

Please don't trade anything except even exchanges of BFF material
recorded at shows. The band would not want to be put in a situation
in which they must stop people from recording live shows.

Thanks.

Air...
I got the soundtrack on tuesday evening. After a few listens i got a
feel for the song, but it is quite different than the "normal" ben folds
songs that we are used to-- a far cry from the self titled album. The
song seems to be more driven by the drum beat, as in their other songs i
don't think that holds true. i don't know if they were pressured by sony
on time or style of the song, but i think sony had something of an
influence in how it sounded. still, anything from ben folds five is
better than most of the stuff on the raido today-- i am not trashing the
song. what do guys think?

Here's the setlist from the show in Cincy last night as best as I can
remember.
(in no particular order)
Pyser
Battle
Selfless, Cold and Composed
Fair
Alice Childress
Julianne
Kate
Song for the Dumped
Evaporated
One Angry Dwarf
Underground
Philosophy
Steven's Last Night
Emaline
Eddie Walker
Raindrops
Smoke
Missing the War
Last Polka
Boxing
Uncle Walter

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the show. It was better than their
performance at Notre Dame in November. I especially liked when Ben introduced
Raindrops with "well, I guess it's time to play our big hit. This one's called
Brick." Ha ha. Robert sang some Velvet Underground song and forgot the words,
so he invited a girl up to sing with him and she forgot the words too. There
was some problems with lighting during Eddie Walker with lighting. But still,
a damn fine show. Oh, and Superdrag sucked. It was too loud, the bass player
kept making dumb comments, and the lead singer was trying way too hard to be a
rock star with all his drinking, smoking, and random "woo's".
Afterwards, while soaked from standing in the rain for an hour, the band
invited everyone still their inside for a quick chat. What nice boys. And to
think, I almost left because of the rain. Now I got a story for the books.
Well, I'm off to the show tonight in Indianapolis.

hi, everyone! let me start off saying that i am new and am very excited
to be here.

i had just seen BFF about 2 weeks ago in hollywood. it was my first
concert experience and i thought they rocked! unfortunately, i think this
show wasn't as good in terms of the set list compared to the previous show
they did in LA. nonetheless, they were still awesome. they did play
"air," but for some reason i wasn't paying attention and i can't remember
it.

about the sessions at 54th st: i think i was very lucky to discover that
show and i was able to tape it. i felt it was good; sweet, howver, short.
do they have other videos of their song out? the only one i saw/was aware
of was "brick." does anyone know how/when i could tape them?

bye for now!

Subject: Resolving the eternal struggle

All right. I'm sorry to have to do this, Armchair, but I believe that it is
called for by now...
As you are all overly aware, there is a battle raging between various factions
of BFF fans. On the bottom line, this concerns longtime fans vs. those who
they would like to call "Brickheads".
I guess for the majority of us who've known and followed the band for a while,
their sudden fame causes in us a great deal of jealousy and no patience toward
the newer fans that invariably come with success. Let me remind everyone of
one thing::
AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER, ALL OF US WERE NEW FANS.
I'm sure if some of you deflate your ego-dome for a moment, you can recall the
glorious moment when first you picked up a BFF album-perhaps the self-titled,
perhaps Whatever and Ever Amen before Brick hit it big, maybe even the old 7"
of Jackson Cannery. Anyway, we were in their positions once long ago. Or maybe
not so long ago.

Second, a little about me. My name is Dan Cohen. I am fifteen years old. I
have followed the band since March 1996 when I heard Underground on college
radio on was hooked instantly. I resent the fact that I am considered a
teenybopper or a Brickhead or whatever everyone prefers as a derogatory name
for BFF fans my age. I have seen three concerts, sat front row at each one,
sang along, met the band backstage, and have gone numerous times over to
friends' houses with a BFF CD and turned some heads. Furthermore, I never was
cool in school. My family consists of theater people and Ben Folds Five fans.
We are all intelligent enough to respect and understand the band's music for
all it is worth. Why bring ourselves down with immaturity as we are?

Regardless, however mad you may be that Ben Folds Five is enjoying commercial
success, keep it in mind that you have no right to deride other BFF fans. They
support the band in their own way. As far as fame, when a band is good, it
happens, and expect it to happen more. My sisters have N Sync and Backstreet
Boys posters on their walls, and yet when I played Brick once on my stereo,
they banged on the door and made me turn it down. Ben Folds Five is punk rock
for sissies, to quote the band itself, and it's not for everyone.

I want to apologize for the length of this post, but Michael Bluejay has a
point. This list is no longer about a great band with great music. It is about
fighting and stupidity and although I've only been on for 3 and a half weeks,
I too am thinking of unsubscribing. After this letter, you all may want me to
sign off. I'm sorry, but this crap has to end. Here is a band with a great new
video and a great new single on the Godzilla soundtrack and we are all hung up
on Brick and stereotyping teenagers. Get a grip and act your age. And listen
and remark on the music. The fighting needs to end before we forget what our
purpose is...
Thank you for listening and have a nice day.

- -Dan Cohen
