   Send an e-mail message to:
          armchair-request@maillist.il.fontys.nl
with the word
          unsubscribe
in the message body. Please DO NOT POST UNSUBSCRIBE REQUESTS TO THE LIST
ITSELF! If you are having trouble, send mail to
          owner-armchair@maillist.il.fontys.nl
and I will try to help you. To change your address, first unsub yourself from
your old address, then subscribe using your new account.

SCHOOL'S OUT FOR {SUMMER | EVER}!!
If the above statement applies to you, be sure to unsubscribe from
the Armchair if you will not have access to your e-mail account over the
summer. Otherwise, your mailbox will fill up and the system administrator
at your school will be one angry dwarf...
Accordingly, very soon I will begin purging the mailing list of any
address that bounces for any reason (e.g., too many hops, mailbox full,
no route to host), not just 'user unknown'. If you find yourself
unsubscribed, this is probably the reason.

THANKS A THOUSAND
With the passage of 1,000 issues of the Armchair I'd like to thank
everyone for their contributions to the success of the list. We have a great
group of fans and the band is very appreciative of your support.

Hi ArmChairers.

I had to say it, this spam is absolutely shocking! I don't know what has
to be done to stop it (Frank?) but it must be stopped! ok, enough
ranting.

I have a proposal: we create a mailing list for people whingeing about
other people at concerts ("Kiss My Ass, Goodbye" sounds like a good
name) and keep this one for people wanting to ask genuine questions,
post concert reviews, etc. sound good?

and now for the BFF content: does anyone know when they are coming out
to Australia? I have heard rumours of summer, anyone have some more
concrete information?

This is really a post that has about half to do with BFF, but I hope you'll
forgive me...
As you may know, June 9, a bunch of my friends and I are heading to Darien
Lake for the show after school. Among them is a friend of mine, who, needless
to say, I have developed some strong feelings for. We were drawn together
while she was dating my friend when I brought WAEA to a party. When I played
"Fair", she started singing, I joined in, and pretty soon we were jumping
around like idiots. She's a senior, however, and will be graduating and going
off to college, and since this will be one of the last stress-free times we
spend, I want to tell her how I feel.
I'm not sure how, though. Hate to do this to y'all, but Uncie Dan needs some
love advice. For the sake of the 'Chair, if you decide to reply, send it
directly to me or whatever. Thanks for putting up with this off-topic post
too...

Hey friends,

What's up with that remix of Brick the guys played after the Grand
Rapids date? What a brilliant way the end the show. Instantly, the
majority of the crowd starting dancing (too bad for The Orbit Room
crew). Anyone know where to get it or who mixed it?

To Doug and the rest of the stage crew, thanks for the beach balls!
I haven't seen those since the London show last summer. Nice memory,
"flashback" actually.

Cheers,

That's a fairly popular piece of music that Ben's borrowing there. A
classical piece that has been used in many things, including the
airline commercial your thinking of. Can't tell you the composer
though. I'm thinking Tchaikovsky, but I could be WAY off.

Hey kids!
If you own a copy of On The Road (by Jack Kerouac) turn to Part 2, The
last paragraph of Chapter 4 (p. 128 in my copy). Sal Paradise is describing a
performance by a jazz pianist that he saw live and it struck me because it
reminded me of Ben, sort of. Just an interesting little tidbit.

Fellow Chairers:
I decided it's enough already!!!! This post has nothing to do with BF5
however it's something that concerns us all here on the Armchair. I am
attaching to this post an E-mail I sent to one of those damned SPAMs. Hope
y'all like it.

I recently saw an advertisement for your something or other on the Magical
Armchair, a mailing list for fans of the band Ben Folds Five.
You have NO IDEA how much it pisses us off to find that our space is being
taken up by advertisements. I'll try to let you know.
It makes us VERY ANGRY!!! Lately a lot of our lists have had to be
dowloaded because they are too long to be sent over services such as AOL. And
once downloaded, the lists are full of bullshit advertisements rather than
concert information on our band.
So please, in order not to anger fans any longer, QUIT POSTING
ADVERTISEMENTS ON OUR MAILING LIST!!! If you do not cease to do so, I can
guarantee you will get a lot of angry letters from fans who aren't as nice as
I am.

I felt an overwhelming need to respond to the following:

>BF5 fans are definitely some of the most obnoxious >crowds I've ever
been around.

Have you actually been to a BF5 show before this last tour? Because
prior to this tour, there has never been moshing or crowdsurfing. In
fact half the fun of going to the show was meeting people from the
armchair and other *fans*.

> For those of you who are "normal" people I >apologize for
generalizing.

Are you freakin' kidding...of course there are NO *normal* Ben Folds
Five fans.

> I'm sure a majority of you are not part of the >problem.

Majority? try mostly none. The *people* being obnoxious are not, I
repeat, ARE NOT Ben Folds Five fans.

> And why? Although most of their music rocks, I >wouldn't say it's
conducive to what you would >except at a punk rock concert or
anything. Anyone >have any ideas?

Hey, I got a few...First of all, I think you are confusing people
attending the latest Ben Folds Five shows with people that are Ben
Folds Five Fans.

Ben Folds Five Fans go to the show to enjoy the music, take in the
show, maybe do a little dancing and enjoy the show. (And by a fan, I'm
not talkin' about how long you've liked them, but that you DO like
them and appreciate all their music, their humour and their unique
style.)

BF5 fans DO NOT mosh, they DO NOT crowd surf and they are only
obnoxious in that they aren't quiet about their enjoyment of the show.
(But a little noise never hurt anyone at a concert...right?).

However, lately, there have been a lot of people at the shows who are
not there because they are *fans* but because MTV and the music
industry has told them it's swell and trendy to like Ben Folds Five so
*they* just HAVE TO see their show. (EEIIIEE they *might* play
Brick!)

And when they play at festivals, like they've been doing, how do you
know who's there to see BF5? At a couple of the festivals I've been
to in the last few weeks, at a certain late point in the day, after
the crowd is hopped up on beer, drugs and crazed by the heat, you
could put Barry Manilow up there and the crowd would continue to mosh
and surf. (Oops, no offense meant to the band!)

Sorry this is so long but I feel you should apologize to every *fan*
on this digest for your insulting post. Maybe we'd better go back to
wearing our Frank Maynard name tags at the show so next time you can
more easily distinguish between a fan and an a**hole who thinks
"Selfless" is a rock anthem.

Thank you, I feel much better now.....

Sharon

Whenever most of you people post things about BFF concerts, you say "Oh, and
I'm very glad they didn't play Brick!". What's wrong with Brick? Sure, it gets
endless radio airplay, but it's still a good song. And it's the song that
clued in about half of BFF fans to the band.

Hi.

This is my first time writing. Anyways... I was just wondering.....I'm
loooking at all the lists of songs they play at concerts...but I never have
seen Kate. Kate is like my fav song from WAEA. Am I the only one on this
whole list who LOVES that song? Oh well. Also, thumbs down to the spam mail.
Also, way to go, to whoever sent a complaint about the spam mail, with the
spam mail attached. And one more question, if we send in requests(MTV Total
Request) for SFTD, what is the email address? Thanks bunches!!
