If the above statement applies to you, be sure to unsubscribe from

Accordingly, very soon I will begin purging the mailing list of any

THANKS A THOUSAND
With the passage of 1,000 issues of the Armchair I'd like to thank
everyone for their contributions to the success of the list. We have a great
group of fans and the band is very appreciative of your support.

Ben Folds Five fans all seem to be Simpsons nerds as well (go figure). Be
aware that we all feel the same way...but he gave us a great talent while he
was here. Phil Hartman will always live on in our hearts and reruns.

Hey hey everybody. First of all..."Kudos to you David Prager." It's nice to
know that there are still people out there who emerse themselves in music.
(And that they are knowledgable on more than one genre of music and different
time periods.) Second...as for songs that BBF could cover, (I heard someone
mention U.S.S.R. by the Beatles,) I think that Hey Jude, or Let It Be would
also be cool to hear by Ben and the boys. (Just a thought.) As for the
conversation before Song For the Dumped on WAEA...I don't think that there is
any hidden meaning behind it. It's just there. Possibly it was put there to
purposly throw listeners off - while it actually has nothing to do with the
song. Just a though. (There is also somthing similar to this on the White
Album by the Beatles. I believe it's a conversation between George Harrison
and George Martian....for anyone who cares.)

today i got the new (june) special issue of oxford american, a "double"
issue about southern music, which includes an interview with ben (very
interesting ! one of the better interviews, actual answers and stuff!)
and a cd of about 20 songs by everyone from the mavericks to rosemary
clooney and bobby gentry to REM (an "exclusive new" song, first one
without bill berry)... and the nbp version of tom and mary!
it's great, actually. i love the whole cd, weird as it sounds. check it
out if you can.

In response to Kristen's question, I really love the song Kate. It's just one
of those songs. And also, I'm not sure about the address for MTV, but somethingneeds to be done about their selection of music videos. Oh wait, there is no
selection: just the same ten songs over and over, and unfortunately, BFF videos
are not in the line up. Something should be done. I've rambled enough.

Ok, I have a major paper on the history of jazz due in a week and I was
planning on bringing some music to class. I was wondering if I could get some
input/suggestions of BFF songs that you consider to be heavily influenced by
jazz. It would be great if you could e-mail me privately, I would REALLY
appreciate it!

Thanks in advance,

PS I am desperately seeking a copy of the songbook. I would be thrilled with

Just came back from the Y-100 FEZtival...a pretty good show, DEFINETELY for
BFF (of course). They opened with Peyser, like usual, then stuck to the same
basic setlist they've been using lately. SLNIT had an amazing bass solo done
by Robert...Fair was amazing too. Before playing SFTD, Ben announced that "We
were gonna dedicate our next song to a little girl named Katie, but we can't
do that song, and the one we're gonna do isn't really appropriate for the
dedication...." and launched into SFTD with that. It's good to see that the
song is still just as fresh as usual live, even though it's now a single...as
for the rest of the show, the Specials were great, as were Green Day (Billie
Joe wore a devil mask and proceeded to sing "The Beautiful People,", for
example... very fun). Can't wait 'til they return to Philly...

Here I am again...

Friday's show at the E-Centre in Camden, NJ was pretty cool. I wasn't
totally psyched to see Ben Folds Five at a huge venue, especially since the
last few shows I saw were at small(ish) clubs in Cincinnati, Virginia Beach,
and DC. I was at the front of the lawn, still a few hundred feet away from
the stage, but it was still a ton of fun. Most of the people around me
didn't know any of the lyrics, and what they did know was from WAEA. And
although this *was* a radio station show, I wasn't sure if they'd play that
song...but they did. I wasn't happy when most of the crowd who slept
through "Philosophy" and "Steven's..." got up really quick to hear their
favorite overplayed radio song, but let me tell you this: It is very cool
to hear 25,000 people singing, "Six a.m., day after Christmas..." So I was
okay with it. And although I was the only one doing the "Fair Dance," some
of the fun was spreading around. Soon enough it will be all over, watch out
for it!

As for the whole show overall, the best part was seeing Mighty Mighty
Bosstones, Ben Folds Five, and God Lives Underwater back to back. Awesome!

Set list (exactly): Pyser - Battle of Who Could Care Less - Selfless,
Cold, and Composed - Philosophy - Stevens Last Night In Town - Fair -
Brick - One Angry Dwarf - Underground - Song For the Dumped

Leigh (the original)

Subject: Two Days of Ben Folds Five

Hello all!
I've called my family and friends - they've heard my story and if my
husband hears me tell it one more time I think he'll literally go
insane. So, now I'd just like to share my brief triumph with you
all...the fellow fans.

I was fortunate enough to get to sit in on the recording session with
the guys at the Tongue and Groove Studios in Philadelphia on Thursday.
It was a very intimate setting and they were really phenomenal. They
did the session like a show, which was recorded for "The World Cafe"
which is a radio program that is syndicated. There were about 20 (or
less) lucky people who got to be there to hear them up close and
personal...this was my second time sitting in on a "recording session"
of theirs and this far surpassed the first.
They were interviewed by the shows host, and they played about nine
songs including "Best Imitation of Myself" which I personally
requested...one you don't get to hear too much anymore. They were in
top form as usual, and yet I hope they eventually take a break for
awhile and rest (but I digress).
After the session, I hung around and got to talk to Ben for a good 15
minutes as well as getting photos with Ben, Robert and Darren each. It
was a wonderful experience and the guys are truly generous - and it does
not go unappreciated.

Friday, it was the Y100 Feztival which was enjoyable and I got to share
it with my husband and two fabulous fellow armchairers Mike & Maria.
The guys were again in top form, and it pissed me off that the crowd
really wasn't into expanding their musical horizons past the fellow
headliners Everclear, Green Day, etc. (which gave good performances,
don't get me wrong). They did eventually get a good response, but not
without working hard...which is what they always do. Ben was really a
showman, getting on top of his piano (which is now missing it's legs),
and at the end he dramatically walked back from his piano - piano stool
in hand - ready to throw - and the seat fell of just as he raised it
above his head. It was funny, but he put it back together and ended it
in style. Robert and Darren were phenomenal as well - always clean and
crisp performers - brilliant craftsmen. As an end thought, after I left
the recording session, I told him to wave to me at the Y100 show telling
him where I'd be...and I got it.

Thanks for reading and letting me share what were two wonderful days.

Peace, Love and Hope,
Anna
