hi folks, got lotsa stuff to talk about:

1. If you intend to go to the June 6 Saratoga show, email me. We oughta meet in a little group of Armchair-ites.
2. Can anyone do a 2:1 on a good tape of the 2/20 Hammerstien show?
3. Does anyone know where I can get one of those thingys that Ben plays the thing from smoke (and Steven's live) on?
4. Has anyone worked out accurate guitar chords for Emaline? I have a rough, semi-accurate transcription of it, but I'd like some other Input.
5. Do we know a release date for the Godzilla soundtrack?
6. Are there any plans for summer? Tour? Rest? New Album?
7. And since everyone else is doing it, here's in no particular order, my favorite bands (outside of BFF)

the Slackers
the Dropkick Murphys
the Skatalites
NOFX
the Bouncing Souls
Wilco
Golden Smog
311
the Meat Puppets
Warzone
the Lemonheads
and several others i'm surely forgetting.

that's all for now . . .

NTERVIEW TRANSCIPTION: I FINALLY FINISHED! Yes, I know I'm shouting.

I finally finished typing up my transcription to the absolutely hilarious and
entertaining Breakfast with Ben Folds Five on the World Famous KROQ, 106.7 in
Burbank.

http://members.xoom.com/HndOfChaos

The URL is in my sig, also.

I just have two questions regarding accuracy...

1. Robert mentions an "octave pedal." I know absolutely nothing about basses
so is this correct?

2. One-hit wonders of the 80's -- Ben talks about "Ronko(sp?)" and Ba-da-da?
Someone help me out here...it is (how do you say it?) before my time.

Just want to be as accurate as possible.

MODERN ROCK LIVE: Let me ask this just once more. I was just visiting the
official BFF site (BFFWEB.com) again and I noticed this:

05/17/98 Kansas City MO US Modern Rock Live (Radio Syndication)

Is this related to the radio show Modern Rock Live on Sundays?

Just wondering...

THE LAST POLKA: I don't know if this has been asked before, but exactly where
is the Doobie Brothers riff in this song? Sorry, I don't really know any of
their songs, but I've heard about this before. I want to post the times on my
web site.

I thought I would contribute to the poll:
My 6 Favorite shows:
1. Ben Folds Five @ Hammerstein Ballroom (my first time seeing them)
2. Reel Big Fish & Mr T Experience @ Irving Plaza
3. Tibetan Freedom Concert in NYC (the Beastie Boys were amazing)
4. Sebadoh @ Irving Plaza
5. Lollapalooza '95 (Sonic Youth!!)
6. U2 @ Giant's Stadium 1992 (my first concert)
Ben Folds Five is probably the best, except I could not see the stage at all.
I've always said that there should be a special "short people" section at
general admission concerts. By the way I enjoy these polls, it gives me a
reason to post. I don't know if everyone knows this, but there is a video clip
of BFF doing "Brick" on MTV live on their online site.

I AGREE completely. That's how I've always felt about Song For the Dumped,
except you put it into words (and very eloquently I might add).

Well Elisabeth, don't worry. My name is in a Beatles song that everyone
THINKS is about LSD but it's NOT and a HANSON song. Think about this: your
name is on the same album as Ben Folds. I have Zac Hanson screaming mine into
a mike. Don't worry, be happy. Anyway, tommorow will be my FIRST BFF concert
after being a Huge fan for a YEAR in Memphis Tennessee. I will give a full
commentation.

Just got back home (St Louis) after hearing, among others, BEN FOLDS
FIVE at the Nashville River Stages and have to tell you it was worth the
4 hour trip ea way. They were friggin' fantastic. Major bad ass! Ben
did his usual toss of the piano stool to the keyboard a couple of
times. And then at the end he climbs up on one of the towers about 6
feet or so and tosses the stool on the keyboard from that distance.
What a total maniac. Love those guys. Of course he also spent sometime
on top of the piano as well. Robert had a little trouble midway through
the program with his bass guitar so Ben just told it like it was and
said "we'll just jack-off for a while" and proceeded to play some cool
piano for about 3 or 4 minutes. At the end of the show Ben took his
t-shirt off and threw it at the audience. Sorry I don't have a set
list... maybe someone else will post it. Meant to make a note but got
too wrapped up in the performance. There was quite a bit of moshing,
mostly by the under 20 crowd, but didn't seem to matter much... hey, if
they'd rather mosh than listen to the music who cares... it's their loss
or whatever and ever amen.

I wasn't sure about this larger venue thing after having seen them in a
club in St Louis in Feb. That performance was unfuckingbelievable. But
I'll have to tell you the performance tonight was so damned great (great
fun, great band, great music, great crowd) that I'd go to another in a
heartbeat. 'Till then...

Don't know if this was mentioned before, but has anyone heard of this? A few
days ago in Media Play, I came across a single of Brick by somebody called
"Basking in the Sun". It was a DANCE REMIX of the song. I should have known
better, but I was curious, and I bought it anyway. Needless to say, it was
bad. After all, it was a DANCE mix. You just can't DO that to this type of
song, especially Brick. It upset me terribly, I hate seeing this done to my
favorite band.

I agree with you about SFTD, and I don't think you're reading too much into
it. Makes sense to me. Anyway, the song shouldn't offend any female, because
you know if a female wrote a song like that, it'd be considered "powerful," or
whatever. Personally, I hate the whole feminist movement. Yeah, equality's
good and everything, but I just don't get it. He has every right to be angry
for not getting his t-shirt back. That wasn't the first BFF song I heard,
either, and listening to it doesn't change my opinion of them in any way.

<<On the other hand, maybe some of them just like it because it says "fuck
you"
and "you bitch". My concern was that if more people that come to a BFF show on
the basis of this song alone, the larger the chance of a disruptive, rowdy
element in the crowd yelling "Do the Bitch Song!!!>>
- ---I know what you mean...I know this is off the topic of BFF and everything,
but you know Third Eye Blind? Well, I subscribe to a digest for them, too,
and I heard about this concert a girl on there went to. It was at a college
in the mid-west somewhere, and the people sang along to Semi-Charmed Life,
with particular enthusiasm regarding the line "doing crystal meth will lift
you up until you break," smiling & everything, then when it was over, they all
just walked out. The majority of the whole auditorium just left, leaving only
the real fans. I think that's so rude, for the band to have to see all those
people leave after they hear the big radio hit. The same thing, hopefully,
will not happen to BFF; I know so many people who like them now only since
Brick came out on the radio and MTV. Ok, that's all about that. I tend to
ramble, sorry.

- --Tony--
I think that's so funny what you're doing. I don't know them or their e-mail
addresses or anything, but I hope it works!

- --Eric--

Aw, when do you go to that? They are one of my favorite bands, but I have yet
to see them in concert! BTW, my sister goes to TCNJ.

well kids, its a rainy afternoon and here i am, reading the armchair. this
reply is mainly for brant because i was somewhat moved after reading your
message about relating to SFTD. i think that a lot of people who like the
song like it because it's kind of catchy and they say things like "fuck you
too". far too few people today take the time to really get the feeling of the
words. when i first brought home whatever and ever amen, i listened to the
whole cd immediately. SFTD was the one that really stuck out in my head
because it made me think of all the times that i've played the bitch role, and
all of the times i've played the victim too. it's kind of a song about life
and living and loving and moving on. when probably 75% of the songs written
are about love, it's nice to find one that is refreshingly honest. and thus,
call me stereotypical, i was suprised to find that a guy (insensitve bastards
that they are, JUST KIDDING) also found the beauty in the context and was able
to describe it perfectly. okay, that's my piece. have a great day kids.

Greetings, all! Yesterday I made the pilgrimage to Nashville from
Campbellsville, KY (a 3 hour drive, roughly) to see the boys live. It was my
first time at one of their performances, and it rocked. There was a slight
interruption to the show when something with Robert Sledge's bass went awry,
but other than that the band was in great form, and it was well worth the
tremendous hassle I had to go through to get tickets (Ticketmaster SUCKS!)
Ah, well. Like I said, it was great, though they didn't play Uncle Walter.
<SIGH> I'm excited about being on this list...sounds pretty cool.

Well, signing off,

Hey y'all:
I just had a really cool Saturday. My boyfriend and I went to this little
hole in the wall record store in Dallas. There we found both of the "Brick"
import singles. I bought one for myself and my boyfriend bought me the other.
(By the way....She Don't Use Jelly is really great! That's the first time
I've heard it!!!) He also got himself the double CD import from Japan that
everyone here keeps talking about and I'm not very good at remembering names
so damned if I remember what this CD is called. It cost $65.
But that's not the real killer. There was a poster with a slight rip in it
hanging on the door of BF5. It was huge. I thinkk about 3' by 3' which is
way bigger than the one he already has that's 1' by 1'. So we asked the store
owner if we could have it. Seeing as we had both spent over $100 between us,
he said yes and gave us a knife to cut the tape with. When we got it off we
realized that it's really two posters taped together back to back, so each of
us got one!
   So much for rude salespeople!
Such a shame that I'm so bad at remembering names. I can't, for the life
of me, remember the name of this store!!!!

The Texas Yankee.

Oh geez, give me a break. The comment the person made and that I
COMPLETELY agree with is that whatever "nice" name you want to call the
lyrics in DUMPED (ie.blunt, unpretentious, etc...) I also think LAZY
fits the bill.

I like the song. I think it's fun.......but VERY juvenile. This is the
point trying to be made. Yes, the generalization that people as a whole
who like DUMPED wouldn't be able to like the "deeper" songs is wrong but
I do see the merit in the comment.

There are lots of people, I GUARANTEE, who think the song is cool just
because it says "bitch" a lot and that's pretty pathetic.

>To quote Groundskeeper Willie - "Ya wee Puritan pukes!"

I respect the use of a Simpsons quote but I'm not trying to say "Noone
should swear," I just think that a group of people ORGANIZING a petition
because "THEY WANT THEIR SWEAR WORDS," is a SAD, SAD state...............
