i became a fan when i saw BF5 live for the first time in 96. when i got the
s/t album i was a bit disappointed that it didn't include one of the best
songs they played at the show, "Song For The Dumped"(not that it isn't
otherwise a fantastic album). i've long thought that it deserved to be a
single and i'm glad it finally is, although i think it makes more sense, as
all of their songs do, within the context of the album. to me, songs 2-5 on
WAEA are like a mini-suite about breakups. "Brick" and "Selfless" are
lyrically potent and thoughtful as well as sad, while "Dumped" and "Fair"
view the subject more lightheartedly. all four songs are musically brilliant
needless to say. whoever suggested that SFTD makes them sound like mysogynist
jerks is being a little too politically correct.

Hey there everyone,
Hope you're all doing fine. Anyway, I'm just writing about two things
really-the first is about Mr Gordon Sumner-when I said Andy Summers, I
meant Andy Summers, because it is his guitar part that makes up the most
important part of the sample. Sting's bassline is minimal and also Sting
does not sing in the Puff version. Sting owns the song, and Andy didn't
even know his sample was being used. For those of you that are
interested, he was doing a couple of gigs here in London a week or 2
ago, doing jazz, where he is more of a frontman. Gosh, don't I sound a
geek.

2nd thing was, again, I'd like to appeal to all you musicians out there,
if there is anybody who does Bff covers in different styles, or songs in
the style of Ben Folds Five, I'd like to put a compilation together,
non-profit making of course, so fans could get together and share out
music. Ok, that was a bit cheesy, but still, I'd like anyone who does
music at all to contact me if they'd like to be on it.

Ta.
Anthony
