I'll bet it will be "Air," if for no other reason than to stick with bad luck.
Ben and the boys finally hit with "Brick," a song that in no way accurately
represents what they do musically (it's a nice song, sure, but when you think
of BF5, that's probably not the sound with which you associate them).

Now "Air" is slickly produced and again, is a nice song, but isn't really
representative. So they'll probably release it, it will be a big hit, and more
people will become fans only to get the CD home, play it, and say, "Hey, this
doesn't sound like what I thought it would. Where's the slow stuff?"

How many people are on this list, anyway? I know the Toad list I'm on has
1700+, but the digests for that are unbelievably long.

You know what I was thinking? OK, so let's say you really like Brick...You
buy the album...you like the album...you buy the 2nd album...you like the 2nd
album...you buy the 1rst album...you like the 1rst album...You see what I'm
saying? People can work *backwards* and still be big fans, right?

Bess, you're kidding about stealing that car, right? Right?

I haven't posted to this in a while, but after getting in more fights that
it's been worth, I feel like I just need to say something. This is really the
only non-directly band related post you'll ever see out of me, bear with me.

I'm on both the Armchair (obviously) and the Rockford Files. I don't
arbitrarily hate MA-ers because I'm on the RF, I don't blindly support people
who have been on longer *just because* they've been on longer, I don't think
the Armchair sucks. As a member of the 'chair, how could I? If I didn't like
the list, I would have left, and not made a big production out of it.
Yeah, I have my thoughts and ideas about the MA's posts, and I keep my
comments to myself, or occasionally post them on the RF because they're people
I know can relate. I don't, however, post merely to deem someone cool or
stupid--I'll just say what I thought of their post. (like my opinion of
someone I don't know and I'll never meet matters that much anyway.) That's
not the purpose of this list. It's not the purpose of the RF, either. The RF
and the MA are nice foils to each other: you get a bigger variety of people
and sources on the MA (and Frank Maynard! You can't beat that) and on the RF
you don't get people who trash each other and a better sense of really knowing
the posters. I'd like to say that the negative things we discuss on the RF
about the 'chair really don't refer to EVERY SINGLE PERSON on this list, just
certain posts/threads that are kind of irritating after a while.

Everyone's preaching about tolerance, etc. on the MA. I think the problem is
that people take it personally when someone, anyone comes in and says either
something they disagree with or what's interpreted as "I am better than you
for some reason, please admit you know nothing compared to me." Please
realize you can't get personally insulted by this stuff unless you allow
yourself to. Of course no one means it directly to you, UNLESS THEY KNOW YOU
OFF THIS LIST AND THEREFORE REALLY KNOW YOU. This isn't real life. You have
to take everything said with a grain of salt. So people come in with well-
written posts to improve the overall quality? How nice. So people are still
asking about SLNIT? Swell. So people hate the RF-ers? Oh, well. Someone
became a fan with Brick? Good for them. Anything said on here shouldn't be
taken for anything more than face value. It's an online mailing list!

I'm not saying my point of view is right, I'm not saying anyone should follow
what I'm saying...I'm just trying to explain how, first of all, the RF
"takeover" of the MA isn't meant to insult ANYONE, just to add some different
input into it (variety is always far more interesting than the alternative,
though it's sometimes more trouble), and that just because I'm a member of the
RF doesn't mean I hate the 'chair and it especially doesn't mean I totally,
blindly advocate EVERY SINGLE THING someone from the RF says. I kinda got in
trouble with someone for stating my opinion on the RF about some of the
responses to the RF MAss attack, but, you will all notice, I didn't say
anything TO those people, and I didn't encourage anyone else to do the same
thing. Remember there's nothing wrong with disagreement or having an opinion
about something or someone...I just draw the line at flame wars. Especially on
a public list. They're useless. If you think someone tries to personally
insult you...bear in mind that, honestly, it's a joke. This isn't reality.
What they trash is what they interpret your words to represent; it's not you.
(And please don't think I AM trying to insult people who respond to things,
I'm just saying how I can be a member of both lists at the same time, that's
all.)

I'm sorry this is so long but it's what I had to say and I think a lot of
people know what I'm talking about. Feel free to e-mail me with opinions,
etc.

Yep I was there and I must say this was one of the best concerts I have
been to, and that surprised me because it was in a stadium and usually I
hate stadiums. But I was fortunate to have good seats but even if i didn't
I think it would havebeen just as good.
Ben came on at 6:00 as planned. They opened with OAD, pretty good. I
dont remeber the order of the list but i am sure someone does, it was a
decent show, 35 min, the only problem was Roberts bass was up too loud, an
ear shattering volume, i mean it hurt whenhe played. and sometimes the
singing was off key, but it could have been the sheer awesomeness of
playing Foxboro. Over all pretty good, they handled the large venue well.
They did play brick and the opening to Underground. The only other thing
they did that sort of bothered me is that they slowed down the fast tunes a
bit, OAD, SFTD, etc, noticable only to the trained BFF ear.
Beck was next with about an hours set, I must say of all the performers
beck impresses me the most, he is diverse and entertaining, and just
awesome. I brought my family (im 19) because i wanted them to see how we
young folk spend our time. and my father even said beck was great. He got
the crowd really going.
DMB was incredible just the same. Bela Fleck was playing Banjo with them
the whole night, he is also amazing, he plays in my town every year so i
am somewhat farmiliar with him but to see him up on the foxboro stage with
DMB, was definetly cool, he really fit into the set.
Sorry no setlists, I don't usually like to write while I listen to
concerts, but hopefullt someone got it.
Also if anyone has a tape of this I would be willing to trade and be forever
grateful.

I am off to see the boys again tonight at SPAC, it will be my sixth Woo
Hoo, hopefully I will get to talk to them, but i excpect nothing at these
big venues, maybe if I offer beer they will let me back stage ;)
Anyway, i will write about that one tomrrow. any questions about either
show, email me.

Perhaps we could see if Jerry could schedule a match between an RF-er and a
Newbie...wouldn't that just be the shit?! Hehehehe..I used RF-er...for all of
those of you who care, I'm finally up with the lingo. For a few digests, let's
say 1040-1045 I had no idea what anyone was talking about, but now I got is
all down..Bentent..RF-er..it's all down man. Welcome back to all the RF-
ers/Oldies..for however long. Someone once forwarded me a Rockford File,
saying I should try to join, but after reading it...well, it's like being the
new kid in a school where everyone knows each other..i'm a bit shy so I didn't
bother to try. From what I read though, it's really a lovely
place...thing....whatever, I'm rambling. So..on to the Bentent if you will...
Anyone know where I might be able to find lyrics to "Cool Whip" and "Rocky"?
I'm sure I could find them if I really looked but I'm tired and want to be
hand fed the information. Also, for anyone with the latest Rolling Stone (with
Tori Amos) on the front...go to the article about Celebrity sound systems and
read what a bitchin' system Robert Sledge has :)
