Do you have to be a fan two years to be moved by Ben Folds Five?
To intensely play air piano to Last Polka
To roll down the windows and belt Battle of Who Could Care Less
To slow dance with your girlfriend to Selfless, Cold and Composed
To turn off the lights and fall asleep to Boxing
To sing along to Song For the Dumped with your ex in the front seat and mean
what your singing

Ben Folds music stirs my very soul - sometimes it seems like the folks on the
chair think its how many bootlegs or number of concerts or how many years
you've known about them make you a real fan.
Nope. Your a real fan if the music is a part of your life. Thats my shpeel.
Keep it real dudes and dudettes.

Well, it looks like we're not going to end up going to Darien for the show
Tuesday...
For those of you who have been following this saga, it means that I'll never
get to express my love to my best female friend, not get to have merry
misadventures, etc. All because everyone appears to have welched on the ride
from Syracuse. Dammit.
Ah well. I'll spend Tuesday night studying for the calculus final with NBP
playing-my own concert. Hope those who go have a good time.

Australia's naitonal 'youth' radio station has just compiled a list of
100 songs that are the "hottest of all time".

Everyone will be pleased (I think) to know that the boys fared quite
well in this list.

Brick came in at number 32
Underground came in at 52

Quite respectable I think!

Anyways - Not much more "Bentent" to impart to you other chairers at the
moment..

Waiting until BFF play in Perth again (only 42 ish sleeps left..)

Subject: It evaporated...see?

Hi hi hi,

It's my unfortunate duty to inform everyone that the premier Ben
Folds Five site on the net (ahem :) is no more. Looks, Brains
and Everything has evaporated, due to my terrible responsibility to
stop messing around on computers and go and get a job. Sorry to
anyone who liked and used the site (all 2 of you), and thanks to
anyone who ever visited (even bigger thanks to those that visited and
liked it). If you're really interested, you can find a little parting
message at the normal URL, being

http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/5430/bff.html

Of course, this also signals my departure from the Magical Armchair
mailing list. Having been here for almost exactly 1000 issues (I
think I joined at #49), it's time for me to leave. So, a huge thanks
to the BFF uberfan, Frank Maynard, for setting up the Armchair in
the first place, and to everyone else for making it one of the best
mailing lists there is. Okay, so I could go on about how it's not as
good as it used to be, but let's not spoil the moment, eh?

Anyone who I still owe money / favours / answers to can email me at
the usual place, MFP540@bham.ac.uk, until next week.

Until we meet again (Glasto, anyone?),

Mark

p.s. On the subject of Glastonbury, I took a peek at the official
site, www.glastonbury98.co.uk, and I noticed that Ben Folds Five
aren't listed. Something I should know? (Unfortunately, my reading of
the recent issues of the digest has been somewhat erratic). Mail me
if anyone has any answers.

Hey there everyone,

For all those who can remember, you might recall that Kirsty posted an
invite a couple of months ago for all those who were interested in meeting
up pre-gig. From memory I can recall Andrew Eliott, EddyB plus friends and
Emily from Keele Uni (can't remember your surname) saying they wouldn't
mind (apologies if I'm got your names screwed up) and if you three could
email me to finalise, that'd be cool. Also, this is anyone elses last
chance to email me to say "Hey, not a bad idea, I'll think I'll join you."
So email me at luke_wilson@fwuk.fwc.com, and we'll get it all sorted out.
Oh, and if I forgot anyone in the list - I am very sorry. Very sorry
indeed.

Cheers

Luke - three weeks and counting.....

>Hey Dave! You freakin' Helmet Head! Who da fuk R U??
>Sweet.

Who da fuk am I? What is wid yus boyo? You forgetting your heritage now? Your good companion
(although far more frequent contributor) Annie did give me forwarning of the RF (I too was
*disillusioned* with the state of the MA) and have been there ever since the beginning... ha ha ha.
Now I'm old skool RF as well as MA - my god, I am superior over all you cheap hussies. I may not
write an awful lot there now but I'm always around, watching, redaing, thinking, wanking. Anyway,
before my (hopefully) apparent sarcasm gets me grief I shall forgive you and move onto far more
relevant business, although the odds on Bentent could be iffy at the time of writing.

I believe the constant stream of MA (majorly angry) posts announcing annoyance and aggrivation at
the apparently anti-social arseholes (how's that for illiteration?) proves any point us RF's had
the first place... we didn't leave the Armchair for any specific reasons or people - just we had
heard it all before and wanted to progress past that stage of repitition. That would have been
nigh-on impossible to do with a constantly growing fan-base so we shifted. The return to the MA was
just kinda an implosion to show we were still around, still loved the boys (that's BF5, what do you
think I am?) and wanted to see what the MA was like now. Guess you showed us...

Oh yeah, and one more thing for regular contributors to the Helmet Heads Forum Page. Sorry that
they haven't been added yet - I'm having some trouble with my computer and getting on the web.
Hopefully it'll be sorted by tomorrow...

Subject: Vonda Shepard's Drummer is from Chapel Hill - Sorta BFF, Sorta Non BFF

I went to Vonda Shepard's show last night. (She does the music on the tv
show Ally McBeal) She was wonderful. It was a semi-small venue a few
hundred people. She's really sweet and fun and encourages you to dance
and loved it when a group of about 20 people (me included) came and
leaned on the stage and danced and sang along at the encore. But anyway
after the show I went out by their bus and waited for them to come about
and talked with the whole band and got all their autographs and talked
with the drummer Rob Ladd and he said that he was from the home of our
boys. I was wearing my 'Kiss my ass' shirt and mentioned them and he said
"yeah, they're from there. They're a great band"
I don't know, the great show, meeting them all, getting a hug from Vonda,
and talking a little BFF made my night. Maybe I'm weird. =]

getting suicidal tendencies over the recent breakup of the Spice
Girls..jk..but anyway i was at the giants stadium shpow on sunday..and even
though im not a big DMB fan they were incredible..beck was pretty good..but i
was dissapointed in the time that BFF had on stage..they only played 7 songs
ass opposed to the even smaller 5 songs they layed the previous week at the K-
rock thing...well heres the setlist.......
Fair
BOWCCL
Philosophy
SLNIT
brick
One Angry Dwarf
SFTD

Of course the quality of there performance was incredible..and my seats were
unbeliavable(19 row)...the stadium had about 10000 when BFF was on but they
made there presence felt...I'm seeing them again this thursday w beck at jones
beach and i really hope they play more than 7 songs..especially more from the
first album..See ya then.

Subject: Attention SONY-CAROLINE folks - Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival!

If there's anyone out there who has any power or influence whatsoever on
the band, please encourage them to return to Seattle to play Bumbershoot!

http://www.bumbershoot.org/

Bumbershoot is a fabulous festival that would really launch BF5 to new
heights in the NW. Music loving record buyers come from as far as
Southern California and Minnesota to take advantage of the economical,
all-ages, $32 four-day pass.

This year's will be Sept. 4-7. It always takes place at the Seattle Center
below the Space Needle. Various sizes and types of indoor and outdoor
venues are available. The best stages are the outdoor stages (Flag Pavillion
is one), and the half-covered Football Stadium because there are more
spectators waiting for the next act, enjoying the sun, dancing, or strolling
by.

The whole event is produced by One Reel Productions. The final lineup will
be firmed up by July 16. Tickets will also be on sale through the internet.

Hope you can make it. You won't regret it.
