Hands down, Where's Summer B? solo. Even Ben knew he was kickin some ass
on that one, hence his little laughs and comments during it. I've never
heard a more effective laid back solo than that.

I totally do this!!! Only, whenever I hear SFTD on the radio, besides
cranking it, right when it gets into the solo parts of Ben banging on the
piano, I bang my hands on the steering wheel in unison with him. Y'all know
the part, right?? It's strange, I can't help it!! It just seems to happen.
Luckily, I haven't missed and layed on the horn for some poor soul....
Hopefully it won't happen either!! You just can't help but move some body part

Feb. 16. 1998, Pontiac, Michigan @ Clutch Cargo's.
Midway through the concert they played SFTD. My favorite song. :) Anyway, they
started it off just kinda jamming and then started singing etc. etc. Until
they got to the part where it gets quiet. You know what I'm talking about?
"And have some space..." Well then they just started totally getting down and
playing a whole bunch of jams. Nothing recognizable for about literally 5 min.
Very fast, very loud. Then all of a sudden they stopped. And Ben very softly
goes, "So...you...wan-ted...to take...a ....break..." And they played the rest
of the song. But it was the fact that you thought they weren't going to play
the rest of the song. I mean, 5 min. is quite a long time, a musical
intermission if you will. It was awesome. The greatest night of my entire life
for sure.

Hey all,
First, my fav piano solo is in selfless cold and composed. But its not
really a solo, because they play with the strings, but its so beautiful.
Thats my favorite song by BFF. I love the part where ben says "come on baby
now throw me a right to the chin" he just sounds so powerful, and the strings
sound so beautiful. Its great.
next, I was watching road rules and I heard BOWCCL. It was great!!!!
Last, enough with the comments about" you're not a fan, if you started liking
bff b/c of brick"... we all already know that most of us started liking bff
b/c we liked brick, so we bought the cd. Good, we already knew that. Enough.
Lets not have this small argument turn into the huge fight about newbies and
oldies on the armchair.
Later all~

autographs, pictures and setlists) out there???
I'm curious, I'm sure most people dont care, so e-mail me back PRIVATELY!

Favorite piano solo...the end of Philosophy, where he goes crazy with the

Subject: egoistic territorial fulminating

i haven't read every word of the "brickhead" debate. but it's a dead
end. it doesn't matter whether you got an advance CD of the 1st album
three yrs ago or just heard "brick" for the 1st time today. it doesn't
matter if you're 14 or 42 or 402.

check out this excerpt from an interview with 78-year-old film critic
pauline kael (in the Newsweek Extra 2000 100 Best Movies issue). it
seems damn relevant given the egoistic territorial fulminating on the
armchair of late. (substitute 'works' for music, relevant bff titles for
'Grease' and 'Titanic' and 'critic/s' for 'fan')

Q; "What mistakes are critics guilty of?"
Kael: "We tend to exalt the works that we're emotionally and
intellectually ready for. And we expect the audience to be in the same
spot in their lives that we are. There are teenagers who think that
'Grease' or 'Titanic' is the greatest movie ever made — it may be indeed
the greatest movie they've seen. After all, their parents might have
thought 'Gone With the Wind.' or 'Five Easy Pieces' was the greatest
movie ever made. Critics have engaged with so many works they may forget
that the young audience now has engaged with relatively few. Only a
twerp would castigate an audience for its enjoyment of something. It's
like a hectoring teacher telling a class that what they're howling at
isn't funny. The most a critic can do is to try to understand the
audience's responses — and maybe enlarge them a teeny bit."

everybody's a critic

around to officially voting for it, but that's OK. I'm not sure if we're
actually voting on this, but my favorite piano solo is the one in Philosophy.

- --Hey, I was watching a Road Rules rerun, and they played Battle when they
were rounding up some cows. Just the doooo dooo doo doooo part, you know?

- --Hey Dustin, you rock, as does Third Eye Blind. You can't judge them solely
by Semi-Charmed Life, just as you can't judge BF5 by Brick...Both are great
songs, anyway, but some people are scared off when one song gets a lot of
radio airplay. On a different note, didja hear about Third Eye Blind bassist
Arion Salazar getting into a little fight with Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt?
I like to call it "Battle Of The Bassists." Maybe BOWCCL could be their theme
song?

Favorite piano solo? Well, it's a tie between two...
1. About 2:21 into "Rocky" right after the second verse ("completely
free")...that solo perfectly sets up the rest of the song. (BTW-does anyone
know what Ben sings in that line..."the man who's seen the spectre of
__________ is completely free"

2. The "piano solo" in "Fannie Packs"-can't get enough of that arpeggio:)

Ah well, it'll be interesting to see these results...

To whoever this may concern....
I was in the BFF arts and entertainment chat roomthe other night, not saying
much mind you, just observing, when all of the sudden I realize that my screen
name is written THREE times in the 'who's chatting' box. I think this is
rather odd, but don't say much...until I see my name come up in the chat room,
with things that I DID'NT TYPE. So basically what I'm trying to say here is
that someone stole my password and was a) using it in the BFF chat room and b)
using it WHILE I WAS IN THERE! Now, I love BFF, the armchair, and everything
aquainted with the music and what not, but this was very disollusioning. This
is a temper tantrum and a warning to whoever goes in the room....watch out!!
This has never happened to me before until the BFF chat room. CandyCaine is
NOT pleased.

Whoever it is that said Kate should be the next single and then went on to say that
those who listen to BFF just because of Brick kinda contradicted him/her self. You
see, long before Brick made it big, Kate came out on a single. It may have even been
the second single after BoWCCL came out last summer. Therefore you must've started
listening somewhere in between.

Karen: please get over the RF....we arent monsters. I swear.

Timmy: your "a slight problem" post sickens me. If you gonna get a complex about the band and its songs then you need to follow some common sense rules and know your stuff. get your facts straight (i.e. stand up bass), dont tell people what they are or ar
en't (i.e. truly in love with the band), and Dont say things like "It's just a sappy little girl song that bff made up so they could at least get some recognition" when since you are the new authority on BFF you should know it was written by Darren based
on an experience....and just happened to be a big hit(it really is a great song) and wasnt written to fit this mold....they didnt write it for recognition....it earned its recognition. Also let me point out that Ben is the LEAD vocalist for a reason..he s
ings most of the time. Darren and Robert occasionally step in the songs and do the backup vocals bit with some exceptions....but thats about it. By the way Timmy, just what is BFF all about. Since you are the expert will let y!
ou have this one. Next time dont go off half-cocked pissing half the armchair off with your superior content...it doesnt do you any good and gets me mad. Yes, I exploded, but you had it coming. I think i was light on the language too....that needed more e

A few notes-

 - The Sessions at W. 54th was on channel 10 (WLIW I think??) in the NY area
tonight. It was great to see again (even though I have it taped), but it
got me so psyched for Hard Rock Live. And HRL is still over a month away!!
Arrgh!

 - I finally picked up the Travis CD, Good Feeling. If you don't remember,
they opened for Ben Folds Five on the November tour. The album is
excellent--check it out!

- - The Brick singles are still out in full force. I just picked up the UK
single at Sam Goody, of all places. I found the Australian version at The
Wall. Look and ye shall find!

- - My Ben Folds Five web page is finally up. I have reviews and setlists
from a bunch of shows, plus photos I took at shows and some custom bootlegs.
