Hi everyone!
My friend Sherol and I were cruising around the tiny town of Winder
today, listening to WEaEA, and when it came to track 9, Sherol asked me
a question. Just before the "We were talkin' about somethin'.." line,
there's a harmony that goes "Ooooh ahhhh!" and then... something. Sherol
asked me what they were saying there, and I honestly told her I had no
clue!
Stevens Last Night in town, before "we were talkin' 'bout somethin'"
line, and after "oooh ahhh!"
We REALLY want to know.. Thanks!

Armchairites...
Just 2 quick notes:
1) There is 3 page article on BFF in a magazine called the "Oxford American" and it
comes with a cd sampler. Tom & Mary is the song on it (same version as Naked Baby
Photos, so it's not an amazing find or anything). It is a good article however, and
if you've "gotta have it" it's worth it.

2) The Squirrel Nut Zippers Video - sounds cool! I really dig them as well. When
I talked to Ben back at the end of May, he mentioned that he was in their new video,
and he is wearing the same suit he wore at the Bacharach Show. The orange
pimp-daddy suit rides again!
Thanks for letting me share.
Peace, Love & Hope,
Anna

Ok, excuse me for butting in here. I barely post anymore. Now I don't know if
you people who are posting that Kate was a single are from the UK. But I know
that Kate wasn't released as a radio single here in the states.

The Kate video was never on MTV, or on tv either. It was a special treat for
us web fans. It was shot in a hotel room in Japan. It was kinda like a "web-
only" thing. It wasn't a real music video.

Clearing up any confusion.

Yep. Ok, sorry. Maybe Kate WAS released as an US single. I don't know, it
wasn't played here. I don't think that I should've gone off on the end all
tanget that I did. Of course if Kate was released in the Summer, I thought
that OAD was their summer single. I remember the video premiering augusty. I
don't know, maybe I'm crazy.

Hey guys this is my first post. Can anyone tell me of a site anywhere that
I can download the full videos to any BFF song??? I have searched all over
but haven't had any luck finding them. I never see them on MTV. I think
they are restriced to only playing Puff Daddy videos. If anyone could help
I would really appreciate it. E-mail me privately preferably.
Just to put my two cents in, I saw BFF last month in Lawrence, KS. I know
it's kind of late to be posting that but I wasn't on the list at the time.
Kick ass show. They played with a bunch of other bands. Tonic and
Superdrag were the best part besides you know who. Spacehag was OK. Ween
sucked. Some band called the Sugar Daddies that opened the show was decent.
There was one band called Medeski, Martin, & Wood that sucked. It was music
without words. But BFF kicked ass!!! My friend and I got to meet Ben
before the show and he signed my ticket stub and everything. Very cool.

<<Thank you Steve...I've tried to say this before, but some people thought I
was making it up. It did come out, it's even got a video with it. The
video is hilarious; Ben, Darren, and Robert are laying in bed together
singing. I wish I had it on tape.>>

<<We all no that they realeased Kate back in the day but you can always
re-release singles squirrel nut zippers have done it. But thats the word on
the street that they are releaseing KATE again infact i have heard it a couple
of times on the radio!!>>

First of all, I know that there is a video for Kate. I have the quicktime file
for it. But it was never played on MTV or anything...maybe M2 (?) You can get
it (the file) from the official BFF site at bffweb.com.
Second item of business, I laugh in all who screamed and hollered at me for
saying Kate should be the next single! The second post I quoted there says it
all! It just goes to show, once a band lands one big hit, if they play the
older stuff it will suddenly gain an audience. Look at that HORRID song by
Marcy Playground that followed that equally HORRID Sex and Candy song. It
doesn't deserve to be played but it is thanks to its predecessor's success
(but why?).

96.1 are giving away Ben Folds Five concert tickets fro the 27th of July
show as they are presenting their tour. The morning show, at around 7.45am.

Also, 96.1 were in the Daily Telegraph about how they aren't counted as a
proper radio station for counting the nnumber of listeners sakes but how
lots of people are choosing to liten to them.

Anyway they listed the top 10 songs played for that particular station and
Brick was no. 9

For the Ben Folds Five/Beck concert:
I went to one too, and they were essentially relegated to opening. I was so
angry, there were people streaming in front of me, looking all around, so we
moved up to where there were at least a few people standing up and dancing.
They played six songs, in this order I think: Fair, Battle of Who Could Care
Less, Philosophy, Brick, Steven's Last Night in Town, and Song for the Dumped.
I wanted to hear the Last Polka like you wouldn't even believe. And oh, they
also played Emaline. Third, maybe.

As I've said before, you just have to keep looking. About two months ago I
found both part 1 and part 2 of the UK single in Jack's Music Shoppe in Red
Bank, NJ (the music store in Chasing Amy.) Between both CDs all you really
get that you can't elsewhere are live versions of Jackson Cannery and Video.
But it's definitely a necessary element for your collection!

Scoping out the web as always today, I found a great BFF interview recorded
in 1995. Maybe it's been around for awhile, but I just found it. Anyway,
it's on Caroline Records' site < http://www.caroline.com/caroline/bff/ > and
has RealAudio and RealVideo clips--and the closest thing you could find to a
video for Jackson Cannery. Also, I ordered a bunch of import singles today
from AB-CD < http://www.ab-cd.com/ > and they have a pretty nice collection.
Now to see if they can fill my order!

Hello All,

Haven't posted in a while... but nobody cares now do they? To cut to the
chase: I don't break down music that often and really pay attention to things
I guess. Or maybe I do... anyway... my point is... in the video for Song For
The Dumped there is one piano solo that blew me away. Not necessarily on the
level of the music being beautiful or anything... but the playing was
impressive. He played it with one hand... and Ben's fingers were going like
mad... I couldn't believe it... it totally impressed me. If anyone knows what
I'm talking about... I'd be surprised... and happy.

I have thought this for quite sometime and have just failed to mention
it.

I am sure most of you have seen the Miller Lite commercial, containing
the peep show where the man is watching a dancing lady flaunt a bottle of
Miller Lite...then the window closes, and the man breaks his fingers
trying to hold it open. I think that the man looks like Ben with darker
hair and an almost unibrow....look closely, I think you will see what I
mean!

<>

Well where did they get the standing name from? Alot of people say that they
got it because Ben said it sounded better than "Ben Folds 3", but why even
have any of that in there?

I read somewhere (i *read* it somewhere, so all you rude, over-obsessive
people need not call me stupid!) that it came from when Ben was playing poker
and he folded his hand. Kinda like a saying like Good Will Hunting, is.
Like, Will was hunting for good will, and the pun is that name is will
hunting...just like Ben's name is Ben Folds and he folds 5...get it?

Remember that isnt MY theory, and i never said it was true or confirmed, but i
do think that it makes sense. I'm also sorry that i had to write all the
extra stuff, but some of you guys really need to chill sometimes. We're all
here, because we love the band, but it seems like all we (well, not me...) do
is bicker and criticize. Learn to ease up and love your fellow fans, people!

Oh yeah, to the person that said something about the person who didnt know
about Kate being released as a singled is contradicting himself...Kate wasnt
as big a radio hit as Brick, and Kate didnt bring in a new batch of real and
non-real fans, so i think that doenst really contradict anything.

Toby, just to answer your question, this website:
http://www.globaldialog.com/~sschneid/bff/ will tell ya everything you
need to know, but if yer lazy, i just copied it for ya:

Ben plays a Baldwin 5'5" baby grand piano through vintage Helpinstill
and Barcus-Berry pickups into a
Marshall stack. He does his own mix onstage with a Mackie CR1202.
Robert played a Hamer Explorer
bass on the first (eponymous) album, and a new Fender Jazz bass with
an old sixties bridge for
Whatever and Ever Amen. At home, he has an Epiphone Les Paul bass, a
Maison P-Bass copy that he
bought in Japan, and an 1965 Carl Hoffner upright bass. He uses Emo
strings (medium light gauge) and
Dunlop picks. The bass is pumped through an Electro-Harmonix Big Muff
distortion pedal, through a
Trace Elliot amp into two stacks of four 12s with an additional 15
inside. Darren plays a minimalist
set of 1967 Ludwig drums; 20" bass drum, floor tom, mounted tom,
snare, which he claims were purchased
at a garage sale. For heads he uses coated Remo Ambassadors (which he
seems to wear out for quite
some time before replacing), and has assorted Zildjians for cymbals.
He uses Vic Firth 5A sticks with
wood tips, and uses "whatever's around the house" for brushes... wire,
not plastic.
