Val -- I think that your theory interpreting other 25 as years would be
feasible, except that ben says other 25 before you, meaning people most
likely.

sean (who is goin to Europe for three weeks to play with a jazz band so
he won't be around to share his opinions... lucky you guys)

PS - today i looked at the bag of goodies my mom got me for the trip and
hah there was a fanny pack in there... I'm not sure whether I'll use it
yet...........

Hey, if you ever have to clean the house to pay for CD's (you know, because
you waited too long to get a *real* summer job, play self-titled. Or any of
them, really. It makes things go a lot faster! And they're great to dance to
with the vaccuum cleaner (especially Underground). No, really, I'm kidding, I
didn't dance w/the vacuum. :)

Also, I forgot about another MTV-BF5 Link. My sister has the MTV Workout
video, I'm not sure of the exact title, but it has a gay black guy as the
leader. If you have it, you'll know what I mean. Anyway, there's music
playing in the b/g, and One Angry Dwarf is on there! :)

Well, I happen to like Third Eye Blind. They don't suck. I got my PHILOSOPHY
on it baby and if any of you want to discuss it, feel free to e-mail me! :)

Bye, "damn the man!"

BF5 did tour with DMB but only for a few dates in the NY area. The shows
were an awesome bill of Beck/ BF5/ DMB unfortunatley I was unable to get
tickets. BF5 also did a few dates in NY with Beck. For us Southern fans
there is no chance of such a bill- sorry to disappoint.
Also the Counting Crows song memtioning BF5 is Monkey on Recovering the
Satellites. Now you are in the know...
Lastly, my two cents on the whole "I hate crappy bands" debate... the
whole point of music is to entertain and occasionally enlighten. If you
find enjoyment in a certain band- great. Music like any art is highly
subjective. That does not mean you can't think a band kicks ass or
truely sucks. Just remember that it is YOUR opinion only. I play guitar
so I know some bands are more original and musically talented than
others. But I also realize a lot of people are just looking for a good
tune to jam to in their cars and don't give a fuck about musical ability
or originality... that's the beauty of music, its all about your own
personal tastes and desires. So just live and let live, I'll enjoy my
local North Carolina bands like BF5, Whiskeytown, Far Too Jones, Ect and
someone else can enjoy Hanson for all I care.

I am so sorry that I am off topic but I couldn't help notice how so many
people on this list are fans of the barenaked ladies. It's actually pretty
funny to me, and I mean no disrespect to the people on the armchair, but
their Canadian and any other Canadian on this list can vouch and say that
they aren't very big here. I actually find that they are taken as a joke
in Canada. They've been around here forever and I don't think that they
have too many fans here. They have some crazy MEGA appeal to Americans and
I don't really get why.

Have a nice day

No, I think what this means is a CD-Single. Like, in Japan they release
these tiny CDs (they play in normal CD players, only I think they're
something like 3 inches in diameter) as singles. So my guess would be that
that is the Japanese single of Air.

Hey there. A lot of people have been asking how to get into tape trading.
Well, i did a little survery of some of my favorite traders, and composed a
nice-sized article about tape trading for my e-zine The Shrubbery, sort of
a how-to. There's also some awesome links, including lots of links to BFF
tape trading pages.

Also, the rest of the Shrub is pretty cool as well so i hope that everyone
checks it out (There's reviews of Bus Stop and Snuzz's s/t albums) Look for
an interview with Chuck Folds next issue.

Hi armcharians,

I have an idea for a great cover... take me seriously, this could be
awesome if the boys did it... the theme song to The Mary Tyler Moore Show!!! I
am not being sarcastic... just sing the lyrics to yourself "who could turn the
world on with her smile? who could take a nothing day, and suddenly make it
all seem worthwile? well it's you girl and you should know it....." Tell me
that is not the PERFECT song for they guys to cover.

- --JW

P.S. Tell me if you agree. I think it would be so beautiful... and pretty darn
spiffy too!

BFF covers, eh? Well...being the opinionated kind of guy that I am I"ve
decided to put my two sense in. (Yes, I want it spelled that way.)
--"My Ding-a-Ling" by Chuck Berry. This would be a song that no one could
disagree on it being about Ben's penis.
--"In A Godda Da Vita" by Iron Butterfly. Just think about that one. I'd
love to hear Ben on a Hammond B-3.
--"Cold As Ice" by Foreigner. Wait....maybe not.
--"Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procol Harum. Although it's not their
style...it's a great song.
--Of course a Beatles song would be a great idea. "Hey Jude"..."Let It
Be"..."The Long and Winding Road"...etc.

Feel free to give me any feedback on my ideas....wait....that might be a bad
idea.

Ok, i remember a whlie back that some people were discussing Superdrag,
but--of course--i wasn't paying a lot of attention back then (figures, no?)
So, my question is, what was the consensus? That Superdrag was good? Or that
it blew some serious goat shaft? Would it be worth buying used? if you feel
strongly one way or the other, please reply to RgrManning@aol.com ;)

He's right, it's not really the bands themselves that are ruining music
it's the music industry. It's major labels and MTV and MuchMusic and
Alternative Radio. Some people (like me) just like to place the blame on
the bands themselves...because if you think about it...sometimes a good
band (like radiohead, or beck, or weezer, or SNZ, or bf5, or older soul
asylum, or as rich said counting crows '94) get's a lot of exposure...and
GENUINELY deserves it.....and turns out to be a really great band (no
matter how lame their fans may seem (see nirvana)). And speaking of lame
fans....i'd really like to take this opportunity to define one of the
lamest crowds on the planet, they make up two-thirds of all third eye
blind and matchbox 20 fans (and from recent experience, the other third
seems like it may be made up of soccer moms trying to be cool): i'm
talkin' about alternateens! yes the name itself often strikes us
20somethings with unbearable nausea...but here goes.

alternateens - kids who hang out at the mall and listen to crap and think
they really like it even though they're often too naive to realize that
the only reason they listen to it is because 1. their friends do, AND 2.
it's been beaten into their skulls by TV and RADIO. These kids are often
operating under the misconception that they have heard enough music to
justify their tastes. (I should know i used to be one of these people,
but then i joined a indie rock band and got a 4-track and started
listening to polvo and it changed the way i hear, but that's another
story...)

>When we pick on Hanson, we're really picking on the whole radio/MTV
>conspiracy that says: Rather than give [x] number of bands a medium
>amount of exposure, we'd prefer to give [x-50] number of bands a HUGE
>amount of exposure, turning them into overpaid rock stars, while the rest
>of the bands out there beg for scraps of airplay.

Oh!!!....that conspiracy goes much farther than just radio and MTV!!....
....let's just say there's a certain five-sided building involved....and
my recent findings will show that William Howard Taft (yes, America's
fattest president) may have started it all!! I'll keep you all posted....

>Anyway, my advice to any lovers of overexposed groups who want to get
>some cred back: BE ORIGINAL! Find an unknown but deserving band and
>champion THEM instead, rather than wasting all that positive energy on
>justifying Matchbox's latest chart-topping single.

I'd take it a few steps further and say:
1. support local music.
2. do your best to start your own scene...you can bring small bands to
your town yourself, it IS possible (a girl i knew brought superchunk to
buffalo).
3. start a band....and NOT a punk rock band please!!!
4. get a 4-track and make your own music...this in my opinion is the best
thing you can do.
5. now this may not seem very important, but make your own t-shirts...some
suggestions: "allison (tony's ex-girlfriend) sucks"...."vampires and
aliens and Wyoming aren't real. GROW UP!"...."i'm a soccer mom and i love
matchbox 20!!"...."tacos."....."william howard taft, america's FATTEST
president"...."i ____ your mom"...."skeptic."...."uncle jerry, i feel that
the way you touched me was innapropriate."..."if i don't find a girlfriend
by january i will surely freeze to death."...oops...there's a couple of
freudian slips in there....but hey!! they'll look good on a t-shirt!

if this post was lengthy then you shouldn't have read far enough to decide
it was.

tony.
