Okay, now I'm not going to say the band FLUID OUNCES sounds JUST like BF5
but there are similarities, enough that I feel I should mention.
The disc is on spongebath records(www.spongebath.com) and you might only
be able to order it from them. A cool record store could probably special
order it.
Tracks 1,4,7,8,9,12 are in my opinion not only the best songs but the
most similar to BF5.
Basically, you've got piano, a cool lead vocal and nice harmonies.
Now you know,

Oh yeah, I now realized that BFF are coming to Fl 3 times in October(!):
October 21st Jacksonville, FLClub 5
October 22nd West Palm Beach, FLCarefree Theatre
October 23rd St. Petersburg, FLState Theatre>>
Before everyone mails this poor girl asking her for more info, I'd just
like to point out that i'm pretty damn sure she's confused and got this
info from a *1997* tour calendar. I happen to have tapes of the Oct. 22
and
23rd shows of *1997* and i highly HIGHLY doubt they are playing the same
places on the same dates 2 years in a row.
I mean, if they were, youldn't Frank be the first to tell us? hmmm?
Heh he....my bad. Sorry...I kind of figured whoever's page that was
that they would update it within a freaken year.
My apologies(for mixing everyone up),

i think you have to take this line in context:
*she said "you've been pushing me like i was a sore tooth. you can't
respect me 'cause i've done so much for you." he said, "well i hate that
it's come to this but baby i was doing fine. how do you think i survived the
other 25 before you."
it's clearly about her opinion that she's "doing so much for" him, and he
replies that it's too bad they're breaking up but it's not as if he is
dependent on her: he was doing fine for 25 years before he met her....
it doesn't make any sense to be talking about another 25 girlfriends:
what would she have had to do with that?
judi smith lying close to you feeling your heart beating
jsmith@bc.seflin.org and i'm wondering what you're dreaming
wondering if it's me you're seeing
would you catch me if was falling? then i kiss your eyes
kiss me if i was leaving? and thank god we're together
hold me cause i'm lonely without you? i just want to stay with you

ok, i DO remember reading that the covers should be songs that do not
originally include a piano, but i am a devoted billy joel fan, (yes i did
say devoted, i'll stand by and support him no matter what turns he takes
with his career) and i think a cover or two of billy joel would be
awesome. some of my suggestions would be:
Movin' Out (Anthony's Song) -- i think ben would do an excellent job of
the lyric "Workin'
too hard can give you a heart attack ak ak ak...
Only the Good Die Young -- my favorite part: "I'd rather laugh with
the sinners than
cry with the saints / sinners are much more fun
Big Shot -- just cause it's kinda
funny.
ok, i just had to put my two cents in after i saw billy joel's name. i am
done now.

Re MA 1100:
My take on the song "Guilty" is this: It seems to very satirical of the
liberal South. Specifically the chorus, if you examine the lyrics, allows
you to see the satire in the way some Southerners (and, to hereby prevent a
flame war, many Northerners, Easterners, Westerners, in-betweeners, and
Canadians :->) personally take responsibility for bigotry and racism. I
don't think the song advocates racist behavior, but it does call into
question the way people who have absolutely no connection whatsoever with
any sort of civil rights movement suddenly turn and become super-liberal
because it is trendy and/or the general attitude. That can be taken as a
good or bad thing, I guess.
As for my favorite song I'd like to see Ben Folds Five cover, I'd have to
jump on the Barenaked Ladies bandwagon with either "Alternative Girlfriend"
or "Brian Wilson". To reiterate what many others have said, if you ever get
a chance to see this band, do so. Man, can they play. And catch the "One
Week" video. yeah yeah yeah, nontent, nontent, so what... I've already
discovered that the majority of the people on this list whom I have
personally contacted hate me already, so I'm beyond caring what your
reaction to that is.
And whoever posted the MIME-encoded picture a couple days back...please
remember that can't be decoded in a mailing list. Not to begrudge; I assume
your intent was well-meant and the picture was quite good, but that only
pisses more people off when you do something like that. Hyperlinks are much
better guests.
Biggest 'fro on the MA,
Dan Cohen

to whoever said that bff should cover angry young man:
you are way off....i know its your opinion, but its so not right for bff to
cover billy joel at all, let alone one of his best piano-solo songs.....i
think i remember reading or hearing ben say that he likes to cover stuff that
no-one would ever think that they'd cover (like Flaming Lips), so billy joel
and elton john are out right off the bat....plus, bff are trying to get AWAY
from being compared to joel/john.....and (opinion time), if bff were to cover
any joel/john songs, i personally feel that Funeral for a Friend (e. john)
would be the best way to go....even though the intro would be tricky.....but
again, i dont think ben would even play their songs just to warm up in his
living room, let alone cover them.

about the next tour..i saw BFF in atlanta at the
tabernacle(thier last show of the tour), and after
the show i asked Ben what's up with the next tour and
album.. He said they will be touring but it will be
on the next album, he said to expect the album in mid
January(perfect my birthday). But that's what he
said. They went back to NC to take a break and start
work on the next album. Plus Ben's solo album should
be out this Sept. i believe, he wouldn't tell me
anything about that.

this is regarding the barenaked ladies thingy.. i used to live in toronto,
well, north of toronto, anyway.. thats where barenaked ladies are from. i have
their first demo tape and a live tape that they recorded in '90 that noone
else has. the singer, Steve Page, his younger brother Matt is really good
friends with my brother, Dave. Matt even came to my bro's wedding. It's so
wierd that bnl is now international known. when i met ben at a florida show, i
asked him if he had ever heard of them before. he said something along the
lines of "yeah, we played at horde" anyway, thanks for wasting your precious
time and reading this. goodnight.

Someone told me that BFF was going to be playing this year's H.O.R.D.E fest
again. I searched through every piece of literature I could find on it and am
only coming up with the Barenaked Ladies, Blues Traveler, and Ben Harper.
Plus, with how long Ben and the boys have been on the road lately, do you
really think they want to jump on the concert venue again? Just wondering if
anyone knew anything for sure about it.

its not "the only LITTLE boy in new york"... Its "the only LIVING boy

and whoevers suggested the billy joel cover was right on the money!
I think "scenes from an italian restaraunt" would also be a nice
cover.
anyway...
happy fourth of july to all you good people!

I am eleven years old, and I AM TOO a fan of Ben Folds Five. I have been for
a year and a half. It's not fair to say I'm not, because I have been
listening to music on real radio stations since I was seven. People can't say
just because you haven't been around long(that REALLY isn't my fault), you
can't possibly like them as much. It's not fair.

Hi there!! I work in a music store, Harmony House, perhaps someone
knows of it....but anyway I noticed on our New Release Sheet that there
is a new Cd5 for Song For the Dumped due out on the 14th of this month.
The price should be about $10. I thought everyone would like to know
that because isn't this going to be their first domestic single release?

In response to the meaning of "guilty", i think it is definately a
serious song about the race relations in the south..I'm from NY so i don't
need all u southerners busting my balls over the comment..I feel that is the
meaning because of both the key it is in, and the fact that it is very hard to
find and was never released, bc society as a whole could not deal with such a
strong song about such a controversial issue.
Don't hate me bc I'm beautiful!
