First off i would like to say that i am an avid billy joel fan. I've
like him for years and years. But anyways does anybody agree with me
that Piano Man with adapted lyrics to fit ben would be awesome? Well i
thought i'd have my piece of this issue

I hope everyone listens to michigan joe about Fluid Ounces...the
radiostation I work at has been playing there song Shamrock for over a
year now...the album is on Spongebath records as Joe said and is called I
believe "Big Notes for Easy Piano" though it may be "Big Notebook For
Easy Piano". Either way, I posted something about them when the whole
Five For Fighting thing started up(another great band using piano) but no
one listened then...please listen to Joe and I, Fluid Ounces are worth
checking out!

Hey everybody! I hope you didn't miss BF5 on TV last night. They were on
ABC's coverage of the Glastonbury festival in England. I happened to
stumble upon it while flipping channels. It was a welcome sight to see
the boys after an awful day of studying for my tax exam. They did
"Last Polka". Lots of pogoing in the crowd. They only showed one song
which sucked. The guys looked tired but the performance was awesome. I
hope everyone caught it because it sure brightened up my dreary July
4th. Christy:)

to anyone who watches hbo late at night, they have this show called Reverb,
and it has bands on their way to the big time...anyway, i had heard this piano
song on the radio, and then while i was flipping channels i heard it again
last night...so i watch...and it turns out to be none other than Semisonic
(the same ones that sing Closing Time)....anyway, this song, called Never You
Mind is so bff like it is scary..there are 3 members of semisonic, and all 3
play piano/keyboard...even the drummer, while he drums! (this is during
closing time, which is very cool)..but in Never You Mind the lead singer plays
piano....then there is a bassist and a drummer....to any of you who have heard
it, does it not sound like ben folds five? i think it does.....i went and
bought semisonics album, and never you mind is the best song on it..and so
fold-esque its scary...the best song bff never released, so to speak

just thought ya'll would like to know.........anyway, check the song...its
semisonics next single (i think), so you'll all be hearing it soon..

I can think of countless songs that bff could do cool covers of.

Elton's funeral for a friend is one of the coolest songs ive ever
heard. I go nuts every time it turns into "love lies bleeding" would
definitely be a cool cover.

billy joel's movin out would also go down well if covered by bff...

  goodnight everyone!

    'Ello, 'ello!

I'm very puzzled. As I sit, at home, at 1:30 am .. I turn it to
ABC to see the long awaited ABC Indie Day concert. But .. it's not there! So,
I turn to the faithful TV guide. Hmm, not a word about it. Check a few days
before; nothing. A few days after; natta again. So, I turn to the internet. Go
to the BFF web page, no mention. Then, I go to RockOnTV.com, and .. there it
is! "11:00 pm, ABC Indie Day concert, featuring Ben Folds Five, etc..." Hmm,
odd. Only on RockOnTV is this concert mentioned. Can someone PLEASE clear up
my confusion! (and, if anyone taped it, drop me a line. I'm dying to see it!)

Thanks,
Amy

In a message dated 98-07-04 20:09:09 EDT, you write:

<< In response to the meaning of "guilty", i think it is definately a
serious song about the race relations in the south..I'm from NY so i don't
need all u southerners busting my balls over the comment..I feel that is the
meaning because of both the key it is in, and the fact that it is very hard
to
find and was never released, bc society as a whole could not deal with such a
strong song about such a controversial issue. >>

I don't think it has any thing to do with the race relations in the South. I
think it has to do with outside perceptions of the southern white male.
People assume that because you're from the South you are racist. Just like
people assume if your from the midwest you are a farmer, and if you are from
the north you drive an IROC or a camaro (I lived in New York, this one's
true-->go to (sch)Long Island!) and wear a wife beater. When he says, "Ain't
been through the cotton fields, ain't been through slavery, ain't been through
the back of the bus", he is saying that just because these things occurred has
nothing to do with the present times or with his own feelings towards other
people.

Iam a devoted Billy Joel as well as Ben Folds fan and I think the lads
from BFF should definitely give a Joel song a go. But I think it would
be more in their style to peform a song not as well known from a Billy
Joel album.

Well....what happened to the Independence Day thing on ABC? I set my VCR to
record at the time that was on RockOnTV or whatever that thing was and I think
the only thing on the tape is one of those sci-fi shows. I'm upset. Did they
show it?

Subject: Smoke and Simon & Garfunkel

Heylo everybuddy! Okay, this has been bothering me for a really long
time, but I failed to mention it because I had figured it's been
discussed before. Does Smoke sound a heck of a lot like the stuff in
the book Fahrenheit 451 or what? I mean, from the beginning, "Leaf by
Leaf and Page by Page, throw this book away..." but you know the lyrics.
I know it's supposed to be about a relationship or whatever, but the
literal translation sounds a lot like it.

Another thing, why are there no lyrics to Cigarette in the WAEA CD
booklet thing? Hmm... Something to ponder over...

I think that BFF should cover 50 ways to leave your lover, by Paul
Simon. Kind of a Sister song to SFTD, y'know? And I think that Bridge
Over Troubled Water would be a neat cover too, but the song is so good
already, I wouldn't want to chance it having to be compared to the
original excessively. Do you get what I'm saying? Am I going insane?
Should I leave now? :-)

And I guess I'm a fairly new fan, because I only have WAEA. New, but
that doesn't mean I'm not a real fan! :-) What are your guys's
personal preferences -- should I get NBP or the self-titled CD next?
:-)

And let's start the countdown -- two weeks (14 days) to IAC!!!!

Hello Everyone,
I have the following Ben Folds Five promo/import items up for trade. I
am looking for BF5 shows not on my list. Please only email me concerning

This is based of course on the "I'm right and you're not" school of
thought right?
Soooooo, how is this person's OPINION wrong?

I mean I understand why the band says they won't cover bands they were
CLEARLY influenced by or who have some blatant similarities but it
doesn't mean WE as FANS can't want it. I'd still love to hear "King is
half undressed" by Jellyfish or "under pressure" by Queen.

Regarding the unreleased "GUILTY."

>society as a whole could not deal with such a
>strong song about such a controversial issue.

I just don't think they could deal with such a BAD song. Okay, it's BF5
so it's not terrible but it's definitely one of their ultimate WORST
songs. Right up there with COOL WHIP and KALAMAZOO.

Obviously since I wrote this, it's only my opinion : )

p.s. me like da band too an' I only fee year old.....

Hey, I think that's great that Ben Folds Five have just a wide fan base (age,
location, other musical tastes, etc.)...It's a good thing...

Anyway, did anyone watch that Independence Day Concert that was supposed to be
on ABC last night? According to listings around here, it was supposed to be
on @ 11:30, but it was one of those movies...Was it on at all?

is there such a thing as a BF5 poster? I mean, does anyone have one? I
haven’t ever seen them except the ones music stores hang on their
walls and windows and stuff. I’ve never actually seen them for sale.
Who has and where did you see them? You can mail me if you actually
have an answer.
Also my opinion on the last polka line - I always thought it meant
years. If anyone could tell me when the song was written, that would
clear it up (if it ws written when Ben was 25).
Just wondering, Crystal
