post ran that issue to 89k (the usual maximum is 20k) and caused the
issue to bounce from about 50 subscribers' e-mail accounts that could
not handle a message that large.

Oh yeah, here I go again. I have decided to venture into this "songs Ben
Folds Five should cover." This is fun!
<< --I might be entering "forbidden" territory for this one; how bout a Led
Zepplin song. Hey, if Puff Daddy can do it... >>
Hey, I totally agree with you. "Kashmir" would be my choice, with the piano
where the lead guitar would be. Or perhaps the ever popular "Stairway To
Heaven". ("No Stairway to Heaven? Sha!"~Wayne's World) Maybe even a Monkees
song! Wow, that'd be just spiffy.
Next, I pick "November Rain" by Guns N Roses. How awesome would that be?
Plus, add to the fact that it's one of my all time favorite songs and I think
we'd have a great cover...Ok, just humor me a bit, will ya? (It only gets
worse...hehe...)
As for the Beatles (great band by the way), I'd go with "Paperback Writer."
Robert and Darren doing the backup would be so incredibly awesome! Also
"Help!" would be a cool choice, but I definitely could see "Day Tripper" or "I
am the Walrus". Even "All together Now" would be an interesting choice...But
"Hey Jude", "Let it Be", and "The Long and Winding Road" might be easier
considering they're piano songs.
Now, again, I'd agree with everyone that "Bohemian Rhapsody" (sp?) would just
plain old rock, but we all know how that goes...
I'm going with the "oldies but goodies" bit here so how can we forget
"American Pie" by Don Maclean? Definitely a long one, maybe too long, but I
still think it'd be cool.
Now, this next bunch are purely for kicks. Not to be taken too
seriously...But if they want some stuff that no one would ever think they'd
cover, I think these would fit in nicely. Honestly, who would have expected
these (other than me...)? "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice still gets me laughing
every time I hear it. "Hammer Time" by MC Hammer would just be awesome. Ok, I
know they probably *can't* pull these off, but I still think it'd be one hell
of a show...And then "Nothing Compares" by Sinaid O'Connor (sp?). I think I'd
die if I ever heard these songs by the Five.
Well, that's it for me. Sorry I took up so much space. But covers are just a
fun time for yours truly! hehe...Back to lurking! See ya around.
~Brooke
"We all live in a yellow submarine..."
p.s. by the way, Semisonic is awesome and "Feeling Strangely Fine" is a great
cd. I was so ecstatic when I purchased it for $1.48. :) "Never You Mind" is
probably the best on the cd, but I really like "DND", it's pretty relaxing...

someone who says ben thinks he's so big now that he has a bodyguard and
won't talk to him, and in the same conversation says he hasn't seen ben in 9
months???
or was the whole thing just supposed to be a joke?
'cause if it was, it wasn't that funny, no offense. :)

just for the record: i confess there are people *I*ve bought beers for

Subject: Chat flaming of BFF

So. I think this nice long chat message is all well and good, but aren't
we putting a lot of stock into someone's words whom we are not even sure
lives in Chapel Hill? The internet is a place where people feel it is
okay to lie and live under false pretenses. It happens, it happens all
the time, in fact I am sure several hundred people on this listserv have
done the same thing to irk fans of bands we do not support.

I have met the boys since the explosion of Brick and they were incredibly
nice to me. They are certainly frustrated and bewildered by their
success, and probably happy with it too, but I have never seen them to be
rude to someone unless they were only a fan of Brick, and obnoxious about
this fact. I would be rude to them as well, both if I were in the band
or as a devoted fan.

There is no time for this kind of flaming of the boys integrity. They
are very nice guys, who have treated my very nicely the six times I have
met them, Robert knew me by name when I saw them in Detroit, remembering
me from the Cleveland show and shows prior to that all of which were at
least 6 months prior. I would be a little frustrated too if I were the
band, but their heads have not become so big that they can't walk through
doorways anymore. I think only your chat friends head is.

I think we should all ignore this persons comments until we learn these
facts to be true in person. These are very strong accusations to come
from a mystery man, don't put too much stock in them...

Please don't reply to this message unless you have nice things to say...I
won't listen anyway.

I guess there's no need to quote the e-mail i'm responding to, since
everyone's read it. Therefore, i'll just go ahead and stand up for Ben and the
Squirrel Nut Zippers.

No, i don't live in Chapel Hill. I went there once. Hehe. Went into a record
store and found Archers Of Loaf in the local section. It was very cool. But
anyway, onward. I met Ben after the Atlanta show. It wasn't during some stupid
meet-n-greet session.. we actually just ran into him, Snuzz, Chuck, Eddie, and
two females (supposedly Ben and Chuck's girls) a few hours after the show..
just hanging out. Was completly accidental. And you know what? They were
extremly nice. All of them. Ben talked to us for a moment or two, obliged for
the photo opp (which we got the whole group in. greatest picture i've seen in
my entire life).. it was great. No animosity eminating from Ben whatsoever. In
fact, that wasn't the first time we saw him that night.. he walked out of our
hotel an hour or so before the show and, yes, stopped and talked for a minute
before headin' off. Oh, and Chuck.. Chuck is an AWESOME guy! He talked to us
for a while, and even gave me and a friend t-shirts!! Just outta the blue!
Chuck is one hell of a guy! Yay, Chuck!

Squirrel Nut Zippers. Great band. I'm nowhere near the loving level that my
friend Lilli is, however. She LOVES them. So, she got a hold of some e-mail
address somewhere of Ken, and wrote him. He wrote back. They cooresponded. He
was incredibly nice to her. He even mentioned how the rest of the band refuses
to accept any fame they've acquired. Then she sent them this art project she
had been working on in school of them, and within two weeks they had returned
it.. SIGNED, with little notes about how cool she was all over the poster, a
promotional picture signed by all of them, and a free t-shirt. This doesn't
sound like a fame-struck bunch to me. And this was about 3 months ago.

This is what i think: I think this guy lives in Chapel Hill, and he's awe-
struck by fame. I think he thinks that just because he lives in Chapel Hill,
he can be best friends with Ben, Rob, Darren, or all of SNZ for that matter.
Would he want to be best friends with them if they were just a bunch of
average mops? I'd imagine not. So why must they be best friends with him? I'd
say he's bitter. There's always that possiblity that mr. Toadyrage is awe-
blinded of the fame, and just bitter that maybe he doesn't personally get
along with these guys. He just might not be a very interesting fellow. But
does that mean that BFF and SNZ are all assholes now? I'd highly doubt that.
They're all still great guys, i'd imagine.

Like i said, i don't live in Chapel Hill, but that's what i get out of this. I
could be wrong, but i'm probably not.

weezer is my 2nd favorite band also, and i defibetely would live to hear a
bff weezer cover... personally, pink triangle would be a great cover, but i
somehow cant see it ever happening... the styles are just not right.

but enough talk about bff covering other bands tunes... what about other
bands covering bff tunes? id like to hear barenaked ladies (sorrie, i MET
BNL today!!!!!) do a cover of the last polka or something along the lines
of that. its a shame that the jellyfish are now broke up, becausi i caoul
hear an excellent cover of missing the war in 4 part harmony. hmm other
bands might be the flaming lips (maybe philosophy would be great)...
spacehog or marcy playground would do fun guitar versions of some of the
faster songs, like one angry dwarf or dr pyser... definetely.

i would kill to hear rammstein do a cover of kate

whatever and ever

I was pretty surprised at what JK Fett wrote into the armchair about his
conversation with a guy in Chapel Hill. In truth, what he is saying may be
true. The band could be getting an attitude, as do many bands who have found
success. However, I'd prefer to go on my own personal experience with the
band, as I'm sure everyone else would. I've only met them once, and they
couldn't have been nicer. Sure, maybe they were having a good night, but I've
read numerous posts about the smiles and autographs that the band are happy to
give out after their shows. Though I don't know the band members personally,
I do know that I left after meeting them with a warm and fuzzy feeling that
hasn't yet been paralleled, and I think that is what matters most.

Hi everyone I'll try to keep this as short and sweet as I can.

I have three simple questions that I hope someone can answer for me.

1. Who is Kate????

2. A few people have talked about the Whatever and Ever Amen CD, they
have said that you can hear talking on a few of the CDs. Mine CD has
some talking, one thing they say is "shut the fuck up" So I'm wondering
do I have the talking CD??? I didn't buy my CD, I won it from the radio
station I listen to Z95.3FM in Vancouver BC

3. And my last question, does anyone know if the guys are coming to
Canada or better yet BC anytime soon??? I'm dying to see them in
concert!!!!!

Cheers and thanks, Leesa

PS
I saw the vidio again today for Song for the Dumped, I love it!!! Go
