COMMERCIAL SPAM
Occasionally, despite the safeguards, an item of commercial spam gets
into the Digest. When it does, please ignore it - I'll try to track down
the perpetrator.
BINARIES
Another reminder: Please do not post binary files (JPEGs, etc) to the
Armchair. They are generally unreadable (because the list server strips
out the header information that is necessary for most mail readers to
decode them), and inflate the digest to a huge size. Last week's binary
post ran that issue to 89k (the usual maximum is 20k) and caused the
issue to bounce from about 50 subscribers' e-mail accounts that could
not handle a message that large.
If you wish to share a picture with the listmembership, please either
(a) post a URL where the picture can be seen, or (b) offer to e-mail the
picture to those who would like to see it.

In case anyone is interested...
for those of you who do not have the March '97 issue of CMJ New Music(it's a
music magazine), which features Ben Folds Five as the cover story, you should
know that the most recent issue(June or July, I can't remember), gives you the
opportunity to buy back issues from up to three years ago, including March
'97! It's only seven bucks, too.

another response to ben's attitude... well, i met him a year ago, and he was
very charming... but i can see how, if you live in the same town as one band,
that you start to dislike them because of how they act or what they stand for.
take avail, for instance, richmond's local punk band, who is quite popular...
they used to be the coolest guys, very involved, very nice... but lately, all
they do is hang out in bars, get drunk, and do karaoke. even on stage, they
are assholes, pissing people off by jumping on top of them. sure, they're
personable when you talk to them, but when you hear terrible things about them
from other people and see them do things of which you don't approve, you can
become negatively disallusioned. and then you talk shit about them. which is
probably what that toadyrage was doing. sure, i love avail's music, it's
phenomenal, but i don't think i could ever watch them live or see tim on the
street and think of them in the same way i did two years ago...
just trying to help people understand the other side. don't believe
everything that you hear, but also, don't write something off without
seriously considering it. i mean, just because yr disallusioned to the fact
that a person is great, it doesn't mean they really are. i've had friends
turn out differently than i expected them to be.
