COMMERCIAL SPAM
Occasionally, despite the safeguards, an item of commercial spam gets
into the Digest. When it does, please ignore it - I'll try to track down
the perpetrator.

BINARIES
Another reminder: Please do not post binary files (JPEGs, etc) to the
Armchair. They are generally unreadable (because the list server strips
out the header information that is necessary for most mail readers to
decode them), and inflate the digest to a huge size. Last week's binary
post ran that issue to 89k (the usual maximum is 20k) and caused the
issue to bounce from about 50 subscribers' e-mail accounts that could
not handle a message that large.
If you wish to share a picture with the listmembership, please either
(a) post a URL where the picture can be seen, or (b) offer to e-mail the
picture to those who would like to see it.

Here's an ironic BF5 cover suggestion:

Radiohead -- Anyone Can Play Guitar

I still like the Fake Plastic Trees and Street Spirit (Fade Out)
suggestions the best. Didn't Ben mention Radiohead as one of his
favorite bands? Or am I in left field on this one?

I am soooo mad, because I heard that bff are coming to Salt Lake City
(where I live) and they're performing at some private club. I'm not a
member, AND I'm not 18!! Does anyone have a list of the entire US tour
dates? If you do, please send them to me!
Thanks,
Jamila

hey, I’ve got a couple of questions, can anyone answer them? Also an
observation.
1) any australians, can you tell me if you’ve seen *any* sessions at
West 54th and which ones on which date so I can try to figure out when
bff are on so I don’t miss it. Our VCR doesn’t always tape when you
set it, and I dont want to stay up every friday night.
2) What’s the Sessions at West 54th web page?
3) What do they play on Sessions?
4) this is off-topic, but does anyone know what record label Built to
Spill are on? I’m trying to get the original of Twin Falls but I can’t
find the CD it’s on so I have to order it in from the company.
5) Don’t blame me for this, I haven’t even heard the song but you know
how in the studio Underground (on the s/t) after the officer friendly
bit, they whisper "everything’s heavy underground" my sister (who
likes Marilyn Manson) says that bit sounds like the bits where he
whispers in "beautiful people". I havent heard "beautiful people" but
is that true? Anyone have an opinion on that? (I’m hoping it doesn’t
sound like it cause I don’t like Marilyn Manson)
Thanks, Crystal

Personally, I don't think it'll combine too well...it just doesn't seem
to be Ben Folds Five's type of stuff. But then again, I could be wrong.

quote me there...)

Footloose (don't ask why!)

Chocalate Cake - Crowded House

You Sound Like Louis Berdette - The Whitlams (Aussies will know that
one...)

Feeling Alright - Joe Cocker.

i'm sure we could get it in. overseas people are
welcome to vote also ;)

covers that would be cool: i dunno, but i wouldn't
mind hearing grace by Jeff Buckley. it couldn't get
much better, but it would be interesting. also i
wouldn't mind hearing some Whitlams covers (wouldn't
Gough be great :)

Hey Everyone!!!!

My name is Erik Sorensen,

I am the man behind the Fan Club and the person trying to throw all of
this together!!!!!!!

I would like to thank John boyer, obviously Frank!!!, the Band, Doug,
and Trey because without there help and support none of this would have
been possible.....

Well as John had mentioned for me upon request in a previous mail, we
will be launching the Fan Club very very soon!!! Web Page and
all..... At first it is not going to be the best thing that has ever
hit, but over time it is going to kick ass..... I has put many many
hours in preparing and figuring everything out, I have talked and met
with Doug and the band several times, and I even had the honor of
talking to Frank very briefly after the show at Pine Knobb
for a few about it!!!!! Everyone has been very very supportive and has
been keeping in some kind of contact with me......

BFF cares so so very much for there fans and thinks that once this gets
rolling they will be able to address the fans easier...... I am just
dropping this as a follow up and to intro myself.... Any questions,
comments, etc... drop me a line!!!! Ohh just in case you were wondering
BFF fan club will be stationed and run out of Columbus, Oh where I
currently live!!!

see the boys do a cover of any song by Jethro Tull, and instead of using a
flute, Ben can do a piano solo or Rob do a solo on bass. I would just DIE!!!

From: Adam Tyner <ctyner@clemson.edu>
Subject: John Lennon Tribute

>From JamTV:

The good folks at Capitol Records and Yoko Ono are letting a John Lennon
tribute album age like a fine bottle of Bordeaux.

Though no one will say why it's taken four years for the powers that be to
get off their collective arses and put out the yet-untitled disc,
speculation abounds that weak sales of Hollywood Record's Working Class
Hero: A Tribute to John Lennon, released nearly three years ago without
Ono's blessing, gave Capitol pause.

Then again, it may just be that Capitol wasn't jumping for joy over the
artists who expressed interest in the project (mailing in schlocky Lennon
cover tunes), and it's taken this long to get an album's worth of
releasable material. And it just may take a little longer.

In fact, for every year the album's been in production, there's an equal
number of artists almost cinched to appear on the tribute. Thus far, only
David Bowie ("Mother"), Sinead O'Connor ("Mind Games"), Paula Cole
("Working Class Hero") and Everclear ("Instant Karma") have passed muster
with a hodgepodge of other artists still in negotiations to hop on board.
One manager had all but forgotten his artist recorded a song for the album
and asked when or if it was ever going to come out.

Right now, bet your band's next residual check on next spring.

Ben Folds Five are considering taking on "God," "Hold On" or two other
tunes for the album; Elliott Smith may contribute "Jealous Guy," a song he
often performs in concert; Robbie Robertson is eyeing "Watching the
Wheels;" and Steve Winwood may lay claim to the coup de grace "Imagine."

According to a source close to the project, Capitol is also courting Bruce
Springsteen and the three remaining members of the Beatles -- Paul, George
and Ringo -- to pay homage to Lennon. Other artists in consideration for
the project include Peter Gabriel, Ani DiFranco and Los Lobos. Proceeds
from the album will be donated to the AIDS/HIV-related charity AmFAR (Blair
R. Fischer)

hey, I’ve got a question- to vote on the triple J net 50, what’s the
address you go to? I didn’t mail this privately cause if everyone
knows how to vote, you can all take pity on us bff video deprived
Aussies and vote for Song for the Dumped.
Also, just to amuse you all with my stupidity, you know the ‘hidden
track’ on WAEA where someone shouts something like “Ben Folds is a
fucking asshole” well, the first time I heard that, my neighbours were
having this party and heaps of people were talking really loud and all
that. Anyway, I thought someone had actually shouted that to me! I was
thinking like “who the
hell said that?!!!” and then I realized it was the CD. Yeah. Anyway,
vote for SFTD, PLEASE!!!
