Hey everyone. Last time I'll bother the list with this Conan crap, sorry.
For those meeting up before the taping: I was at Rockefeller center a few
hours ago and realized that there are TWO TGIFriday's in the immediate area.
The one I had in mind is NOT the one on 5th avenue bet 48th and 49th. Repeat,
NOT. The one I was talking about is on 51st street between 5th and 6th, on
the north side of the street. I stopped in to make sure that they'll be open
and to let 'em know we're coming. See you Thursday around 1:30 or so!

Hey there-
For all you people out there that watch MTV Ben Folds Five is going to be on
Fanatic soon.. You can get the number to call in and they ask you all these
really tough questions, then they (hopefully) call you back. I did it and then
got majorly bummed because after all the questions the guy said " Wait you are
15? You may be too young hon, you have to be 17... I will ask my manager and
I'll call you if it's okay" GRRRRRRR I WANT TO MEET THEM DAMMIT!
Okay thought you all would like to know :)

Just sharing my happy news with you all since you would understand my
excitement. After ages of browsing through second hand cd shops and
the like, I accidently came across the Battle of who could care less
single!! Yay for me!
Also I've noticed every week I walk into a cd shop, WAEA has climbed
further up the charts and Brick was about number 9 on the charts the
other day,(in Oz that is).
See all you Melbournites at the concert!!

Well it did! anyways...I'm pretty much giving up on organising this meet in

of my email getting stuffed up
Don't email me or ask me to trade now, my stereo has had it, and I have to
wait 3 months to get another one (my birthday) but anyone who I owe tapes
to, I'm getting my friend to do it..so don't think I'm ripping any of you
off...and if anyone I sent tape to and they were in incredibly bad
condition, let me know and I'll get them done again for you..
Could you believe I have to go to the BFF concert by myself now?!?! How
much does that suck....ugh, dammit..who cares...

Subject: covers...

Covers...what an idea. I think we should first look at the angle for
which to approach these songs. First of all, ben's never does a cover
without changing it so if anyone is looking at Radiohead they better
look at disco or sumthing crazy like that. Now, i could see a filler of
THE HIV SONG by WEEN but then again, it'd have to be like polka or
sumthing. I think that what everyone is doing here is awsome. I think
band suggestions is awsome but make sure when your thinking of this song
in your head you decided how they would do it. I'm interested in how
you would plan on doing these covers while presreving their meaning but
yet changing them. Don't get me wrong, i think your input is great so
keep it coming...just add a twist to it.

My second topic is bootlegs. Has anyone ever heard about Ben or Robert
or Darren's views on like MP3's and Bootlegs. I would like to get ahold
of any interview of this. I know that Eddie Vetter<sp> (i don't listen
to pearl jam, even though i don't doubt they are good cause i have heard
some) said that he thought MP3's were awsome and the fact that you can
get more music from your artists is great. In fact most bands allow
tape recorders in their concerts. Any word on whether you can do that
at a Folds concert?

P.S. The only two songs i based this letter off of were Champagne<sp>
Supernova and She Don't Use Jelly. Rain Drops Keep Fallin' on my Head
was one that wasn't changed but some distorted bass was added.

What is it about this Thursday in NY and concerts? Not only am I going to
the taping of the Conan O'Brien show, but afterwards I have the choice of
going to see Page/Plant or The Bogmen! It's looking like it's going to have
to be The Bogmen--they're playing Irving Plaza which is just too cool a show
to miss. If you don't know The Bogmen, check them out...especially if
you'll be in NY that night.

Just a semi-related BFF note:
I saw the new Komeda video on 120 Minutes last night--great song! For those
of you who don't know or don't remember, Komeda opened up for BFF for a few
shows during the November tour. I never got to see them (they weren't in
the NY)...but after seeing the video I wish I had. It brings me great joy
to see some more good new music coming from Sweden!

Sick of hearing what everyone wants BFF to cover,

Hey, this is my first post, but I've been a huge bff fan for a year now. I
was the first person I know of to buy WEAEA, and since having bought the
other two albums have become BFF's publicist for Richmond, Virginia.
Anyway, what I wanted to know was is it just ben singing during the first
part of "underground"? Sometimes when I'm listening it sounds like just
him, then others it's two or three people.

I got an In The Zone Westwood One BF5 CD in the mail today. This is the
official CD that they broadcast over the radio, so the quality is first
rate. It is from the show at the Palace in Los Angeles. It has the
following tracks:

Missing The War
Battle of who could care less
Selfless, cold & composed
Brick
Kate
Jackson Cannery
Smoke
I Wanna be a rock and roll diva
Underground

I have the rest of this show on DAT that I recorded from the balcony at
the Palace if you want to whole show.

I am looking to trade a DAT of this for DATs of soundboard recording or
any radio appearances.

Subject: bff stuff u can buy in Bris/ plus questions

greetings

I went on one of my regular BFF stuff hunts in Brissie today and here's
what I found:
at 'Allans' (which is the instrument-type music store down the escalator
from the 'Record Market' in the mall) you can buy the piano music to
Brick !
it cost me $7 and there's about 3 left. I asked if they had any other
BFF stuff and they said that no, this was the first (by the way Angela
who works there is a nice girl who I know - so be nice to her)
anyway I've tried to play it and it sounds (so far) like a good
transcription.

at this point I'm dithering about whether to say 'email me if you want
a transcription' not 'cause it's illegal, but 'cause some of the money
from the sale of sheet music would eventually get to the band...
oh whatever, email me. (preferably if you aren't in a situation to buy
the sheet music yourself)

Um, both Rocking Horse Music (on the road opposite town hall) and Record
Market have Japanese imports of BFF albums: Rec market has NBP and
Rocking Horse has something I really want to buy but couldn't afford to,
which is BFF first album with 'Tom and Mary' as an extra track on the
end, and the booklet has all the lyrics (in english and Japanese) plus
an extra verse in the lyrics for Julianne which I thought was really
weird, but maybe the translation was wrong. (Ohhh i want it, but it
costs $35 - for those of you in other countries, CD's in Aust. cost ~$30
so $35 is pushing it)

Um, at Galaxy music (on George st near AudioPro) there is a great import
store. The guy there is weird but nice and very helpful and he likes BFF
which is always a plus. He has photos of the guys at the livid festival
(onstage) - they're good professional close shots, but I didn't order
any copies because I was in a hurry. Also, they're not all of Ben which
is good if you like pictures of Darren and Robert. He can order singles
in (WSB, Underground, SFTD Japanese import, OAD Jp., Brick Jp.) and he
(and I) have a question for knowledgable armchairers out there:
What are the B sides on the Japanese singles for SFTD, Brick and OAD?
Email me so other armchair people don't have to be bored by info they
probly don't want.

Actually I've just had a thought (first time for everything etc.) would
the japanese import of SFTD have Ben singing in Japanese? If so I want
it, that would be funny as hell to listen to. Please email me if you
know the answer to this.

Brissie fans email me (if you haven't already) about meeting up before
the show.

one final thing. I think people who lurve Brick but don't like anything
(and I mean anything) else BFF do, are bricklets.

thanky'all, sorry about the length

Subject: MTV Ben Folds Five Fanatics

Hey, I just wanted to let you guys (and girls) know that MTV is looking
for a Ben Folds Five "fanatic" or "#1 fan" to interview the band for
their new show called, originally enough, "Fanatics". Not only should
you love the bands music and collect their memorabilia, but you should
also you should also have been affected by their music some way in your
life. I'm sure this apply to a good 70%+ of armchairians (including me,
but I figure that I'm too young for consideration (16)) so all you have
to do is call Jack at 212-654-6172 (collect, if you want) and tell him
why you, or someone you know, would be a good candidate. Good luck!

I read the posts about the band Fluid Ounces, which some fellow Armchairites
have recommended. First, I listened to some samples at the CD Now site. Just
listening to those few bits, (especially "Birdbrained") it seemed that these
guys were doing their damndest to impersonate BFF. However, I wanted to
analyze it further, so I ordered the cd.

It's really a pretty good cd. They're definitely from the same tree as BFF,
but I wouldn't call them a clone. To me, Fluid Ounces sound more like
Jellyfish or Crowded House. They are all in that same "pop" family, but BFF
are definitely in a class by themselves.
