Ok, Lucy, I must say you really pissed me off with your little comment.
It doesn't matter how long you've listened to the band, or how many shows
you've seen, how many posters you own, how many t-shirts bearing their
name, how many bootlegs you've gotten your hands on, how many imports
you've been lucky enough to find------all these things does not a #1 fan
make! Different people handle their "obsession" with BF5 in different
ways, and i really think it's messed up for you to say that no one could
ever measure up to Scott Schneider. Don't get me wrong, maybe he's a
really nice guy who will kill for the band, but so What? What makes him
better than the rest of us who crack up like mad at the boys freestylin on
"Fanny Packs--OH GODDAMN!" or whose hearts sink when Ben utters "...it
evaporated.....see?" or who listen to them when we're at the lowest in the
day and shoot straight up when Ben yells "KISS MY ASS GOODBYE." A true fan
is one who appreciates the band and respect the music that they put forth.
Sorry if some of us do not have the resources or the time to indulge
ourselves in every possible BF5 venture--that doesn't make us any less
worthy of meeting them. After all, they are regular human beings. I'm
sorry if i'm coming on a bit too strong, I mean, I can see how you'd want
your friend to have a chance to meet them, but you have to admit your
comment was a bit wrong. Sorry to all the good people sitting on the
armrest who had to read this. I love y'all.

Me.

just a bit ago getting SFTD on total request was mentioned, I think the e-mail
address for that is total@mtvmail.com, I think it's an AWESOME idea, and I was
also wondering if everyone who has seen the video on MTV could say when so I
could get an approximate idea of my best bet for seeing it, I tried to
download it from the site. It didn't work. thanks!

i don't think mtv replays episodes of 120 minutes... however, if
anything groundbreaking happened on bff's episode, it'll get replayed
on the end of the year special type thing.

and, for you peoples who care, this is my first post to the magical
armchair. i got into bff after hearing 'battle of who could care
less' and 'one angry dwarf...' (which sold me on them.) i bought
"waea" from the local used cd store and loved it. then i bought the
first cd new in lower michigan and decided it was one of the two
perfect cds in my opinion. i also like radiohead (the bends is the
second perfect cd), the dead milkmen, pavement, weezer, seBADoh, nick
cave, nirvana, black flag, the minutemen, blah. i have a webpage
which is listed in my signature. i spend way too much time online.
and i'll shut up now so the digest isn't too big. blah. bye.

Hi. Just thought i'd post a little excerpt from a letter from Ken of the SNZ
to my friend Lilli, who talks to him occasionally and went on to mention the
stupid pseudo-conversation that was previously posted on the digest about how
BFF and SNZ are all stuck up. Anyway, i posted a response telling a story of
me meeting BFF and my friend Lilli's contact with SNZ, and Lilli told Ken
about it.. here's what he said:

Excellent work, sticking up for us. No one ever recognizes me, so I
don't have to deal with it. Gotta run now, (I'm stuck up....kidding) really
I'm
ungodly busy. (did you check the news on our website?) By the way, the
BFF are the best group of guys. Now Ben is a bit weird, but I think
that's just the artist in him. Darren and Robert are down to earth and
wonderful.

So there you have it. Take care, folks.

Subject: bootlegs/whose singing/BFF on Recovery rumour

someone asked about bootlegs
I remember reading interviews where the guys said they didn't mind, the
problem can be with the venues, though, which have policies which oppose
bootlegs.

someone asked if it's just Ben singing at the start of Underground
(scroll past if you've always known this)
you're right it's not (don't worry I thought this too when I was first
into the band).
Darren sings: I was never cool in school, I'm sure you don't rememeber
me
Robert sings: And now it's been ten years I'm still wondering who to be
Ben sings: And I'd love to mix in circles, cliques and social coteries
that's me
Darren sings: Hand me my nose ring
Robert sings: Show me the mosh pit
Ben Sings: We can be happy underground

There you go (if I'm wrong i would like to be corrected, honestly)

RUMOUR time - Aussies prepare
the Recovery website (which you can get to through the triple j site)
says that BFF are widely rumoured to be playing on Recovery on Saturday
the 25th.
Stay alert for further updates,
triple j is likely to interview them to, so keep an eye on their
programing schedule thingy
at least we know that BFF won't be on the Midday show this time

one final thing, I take it back about the piano sheet music to Brick
sounding okay, I've tried to play it, and unless my piano is more out of
tune than I thought, I'm going to go back to playing the transcription I
worked out by ear.

five, but three, and they were kind

greetings to those who care,

so that's probably no-one.

Anyway, I'd like to defend the idea of the fan-club. I've been
corresponding with John Boyer for a while, and he seems like a decent
upstanding citizen. Also, with out detracting at all from this digest, it
is not a fan club, more of a place to put idea out, to mention up and
coming events. A fan club is a splendid idea, and I urge people to support
it - hell, I'm in England, so I (probably) won't be able to go to any meets
or speical gigs, but I still think it's a good idea. There's far too much
cynicism in the world already, lets leave it out of this. Please?

And em: Ether _are_ that bad. He sounds like the Chipmunks on helium. And
the SFA's are madder and Welshier. If that's a word. And I'd rather have my
green jelly.

ok. they should do a radiohead song...but i have no idea which one they
could get away with..."how i made my millions" is radiohead's only real
piano song...but that doesn't really mean anything...they could do "how
can you be sure"...but, there's a Grant Lee Buffalo song they should
do..now, i'm not a huge GLB fan, but my friend is and he was playing me a
tape and there's this one song that has either the word "dixie" or
"dixieland" in the title and i think it would be a good cover for BF5.
Any Grant Lee Buffalo fans know what song i'm talking about?

Subject: Lazy DJs and the radio phenomenon

Here in the cultural hub of the world, Tallahassee, FL, we have really
on one radio station that plays BFF on any kind of regular basis.
It's a huge corporate piece of radio conformity, so I try to minimize
my listening time. Then again, I stand more of a chance of hearing
BFF (and some others like Barenaked, Radiohead, the Verve) with them
than with the other poor excuses for radio stations in town.
Anyway, they have a show on weeknights called "the all request 120".
Which, as you may have guessed is two hours (10pm -12am) of requested
stuff. So, I decided, since I'm generally driving home from class
about 10, I'd use this show as a way to hear a BFF song on the radio,
other than Brick or SFTD. So I call.
First, I go optimistic. I ask for Underground. The DJ (a throaty
voiced sexpot, I'm sure) said she couldn't play it, "it's not in
here." Now this, to me, means that they had the CD somewhere in the
station, but she wouldn't get off her lazy ass and get. So I was a
bit peeved, but went on. I moved into Whatever.., and requested 1
Angry Dwarf & 200 Solemn Faces. After repeating the title twice, she
told me she couldn't play that one because it "hadn't been released to
radio" yet. I scoffed in her general direction, informing her that it
had, and I had even heard it played (once) on their station. To no
avail. I sighed and asked for Battle of Who Could..., which she
agreed to. Then, before I hung up, she says.. "Hey, what's their new
one called?" I say, in a questioning tone, "Song for the dumped?"
"You got it," she replies. So I say again, I don't want that one,
though, you always play that one. I wanted Battle... .
"Yeah, Okay, no problem."
So I cruise home, listening to Semisonic's "Closing Time" for the
3,000th time this month, when I hear my voice over the radio. "Hi,"
sayth I, "I've got a request." "Shoot," sayth the throaty lazy DJ.
Now, in the place where I had orginally said "Ben Folds Five,
Underground?" I hear my questioning voice utter, "Song for the
Dumped?" "You got it." And Ben starting counting.

Now, why, I ask, is it such a freakin crime to want to hear a song by
my favorite artist that HASN'T been played to pieces by the corporadio
of the U.S.? If anybody knows anything about the radio industry and
can explain to me who dictates these things, please do.

Cause I'm super pissed.

hand me my FREAKIN nosering,
Andy (the OTHER Grover)

<<Is it just me, or is this "fan club" pointless..>>
In my humble opinion fanclub's are NOT a rip off. Usually they're a good
way for fans - especially those who don't have access to the internet and
e-mail - to keep in touch with current band news. Plus, well organized
fanclubs that keep in touch with company promotions departments often
offer price discounts on merchandise and rare schtuff. Also, fancluvs
that put out 'zines are usually able to put out reliable information as
well as provide a more persoanl or "inside" look at the band.

p.s. - I was CBS on Saturday. Lo and Behold!! There was a commercial on
for Dr. Pepper naming their CD of the: Ben Folds Five, Whatever and Ever
Amen. Their exact words were: "Let's Salute Ben Folds Five. They're
aiding in teh fight against corporate takeover of radio airwaves." or
something close to that. I started laughing...
