After watching Hey Hey last night I came up with an idea. We should have a
shirt for the armchair. I reckon do the Geoff Harvey fanclub thing on the
front and have the address of the armchair on the back, something like
that. If anyone has any means of making shirts I think we should do it.
Anyone else have any ideas???

Subject: My obsession with Ben Folds Five

Okay I am obsessed with Ben Folds Five. Not like scary stalking
obsessed, like "good I love Ben Folds Five and whoever doesn't is a
flaming retard obsessed". Everyday I have a different favorite song.
It went from Battle to Brick then SFTD,and don't forget Kate, Missing
the War, Evaporated, and smoke, and well you get the picture..
Then I finally after cleaning the house for 5 dollars a week I
bought the first cd. Then there was Alice Childress, Where's Summer B?,
Philosophy, Underground, Jackson Cannery, Last Polka, and Boxing. I
have built a massive web page and practically seen almost every BF5
webpage out there. I truly love their music. They make me laugh, cry,
think, and learn. Yes, even learn.
If you listen songs like to evaporated, philosophy, The Last Polka,
and even the Best Imitation of myself you will understand. I don't know
what all these songs mean to Ben Folds Five, but to me they are like my
own little philosophies. This band has made me wish Mom didn't sell our
piano for extra money when I was 12.
Uncle Walter reminds me of my grandfather too. Well I just had to
mention that somewhere. That is about it. I will be gone to band camp
next week so I will talk to you guys Thursday. see ya then.

then; where would we be without Ben Folds Five? So put it in the CD player
(if it isn't already) and give it an extra listen on Saturday. Then bake a
cake, light up three candles, and crank up Philosophy!

Happy birthday!>>>

Well, Ben and the boys have had a major influence on my life. Not to mention,
if it weren't for Ben Folds Five, I wouldn't have met with a great bunch of
people a week and a half ago, and I wouldn't have met and hung out with the
most incredible girl in the world last weekend. By the way, "Philosophy" is
pissing my neighbors off as I speak!!!

hello all,

Im new to the list so i thought id just introduce myself to yall.

I, like the rest of you, am an avid fan of the five. Ive been into the band
for a number of years now....certainly since the self titled album came
out. I currently live in New Zealand and i used to live in New York. I
would just like to say for the record that i am reallllllly sad that BFF
did not make it to New Zealand on their current Australasian
tour....hopefully they will find their way here eventually, cause that
would be really good.

I am also a HUGE fan of a band that you might have heard of called
Jellyfish. Jellyfish (and their various spinoff bands) are perhaps my
favourite(s) in the world which is why i am totally intrigued by the Ben
Folds Five. If any of you are JF fans and would like to talk privatley
about them...you will find an immediate friend in me!!

Also...in reading recent volumes of the 'armchair' i noticed the touchy
subject of 'old fans vs. new 'poseur' fans. I would like to talk about this
breifly and get my opinions off of my chest because this subject is so
important: I personally feel that those fans that are only new to the
phenomenon of BFF should not be discouraged from listeneing to the band
just because they think that Brick is a cool song.....as someone else in
the list said " those who only like the band because of brick will fade
when the hype from brick fades"....its as simple as that. It seems to be
pointless to have battles with people just because your 'a bigger fan than
they are'. I used to dismiss bands after they had gone commercial, however
i soon learnt that just because more people listen to a band doesnt make
them any worse (although one might get sick of hearing songs played on the
radio too much

anyway....ive had my shpeel.......

talk to yall soon

Subject: Bumper Stickers?

Alright, I've searched as I know many others have done. That lucky bastard (in
a good way, I swear) who happened to snag one, well, kudos my dear friend. I,
however, have not had the luck as you have had. (surprise? nah.) Anyways, I
decided to give up with the search, although not completely. But, instead of
looking to BUY one, why don't I just MAKE one? I saw this one car back in the
day, maybe about a month ago with a BF5 bumper sticker on it (Sounds a little
familiar to the one you described...) and honestly, I almost flipped when it
caught my eye. But I just got a new car and I needed to show my Ben Folds Five
appreciation. I HAD TO DO THIS! Well, my new car isn't exactly "new", but it's
new to me. Anyways, it had a college sticker on the back and I didn't want it
there so I took it off. In it's previous resting place, the sticky stuff was
still residing. "Hmmmm..." I thought. So I went in my house, grabbed some
white paper, ran outside, measured how long the sticky area was, ran inside,
grabbed "Whatever and Ever Amen" (the most convenient one...), sharpened my
pencil, grabbed my black permanent magic marker, sat down and began drawing
the "Ben Folds Five" written on the front. Bare in mind I did not copy this,
so those of you with NO artist flair might have difficulty with this
technique. I drew it, colored it in, cut it out and ran outside to stick it on
the back of my car. Now, not only do I have a YELLOW Tracker, I also made it
more unique by sticking a homemade Ben Folds Five "bumper sticker" on it! So
there ya go, to all you desperate people (like me!) just grab a college
sticker, put it on the back window of your car, peel it off, and get to work!
It's easy and free! What more can you ask for?? (Except getting lucky at a
concert...) :)
That's all for me...Wow, 2 posts in a month! Watch out!
Peace,
Brooke

OK
eveyone that's pissed about people writing about how much they also like BNL,
Nobody wants to hear that you DON'T like them. Wasting space with bands you
don't like is so much more boring than hearing about bands BFF fans might also
be into.
Sorry no bentent, just ranting....

Can't help it, have to post again...
The concert was so cool.. I got there at 1pm..Anne and Paul turned up
around 4-5pm...just missed out on catching them go into the venue..but my
mum saw ben..
then we wrote them a note..got a guy to take it to doug...doug came out and
said he'd try to get the boys out
They never came out...taped the soundcheck from outside..got some song I
guess it was an improv, it sounded coo, a bit like selfless, bowccl and
Brick...the way they played it during the soundcheck was cool..
Then we ate..went in the palais, Sout were cool...kept staring at the piano
tho..then bff came on, the playedPyser, BOWCCL, Philosophy, Selfless, Last
Polka, Emaline, TOm and Mart, Steven's last nite (when Bree got her friend
to throw a geoff harvey album on stage and ben read it out on stage, it was
cool. Then thy did fair (woohoo) brick...Kel, Paul and me all yelled out
evaporated then! Jackson Cannery, Julianne, Dwarf 9where everyone got up
and danced) Underground (with no intro DAMMIT) Dumped
encores: Evaporated (for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he ever said it was for a 'few
friends who asked for it ealier") & Uncle Walter.
Then i ran over to the stage...scored Darren's setlist off doug...then mum
was talking to the guy from amsterdam, and then I had to go find my shirt
cos I left it on my seat
then the next thing you know he was telling us to get on stage
then we walked INTO BFF's DRESSING ROOM!
Then I talked to them..got photos, etc...
Then we went...they came outside and I stayed with darren for the entire
half an hour they were outside
I kept kissing his jacket and touching him, he laughed at me...but never
saw me kiss him (hehe)
He said one of his fave bands is the flaming lips...umm...I talked to him
for ages...so wow
WOW
and wow
that's it i'll shut up now
everyone i met was great
WOW
At recovery I talked to robert and said hi to darren
yep bye

on the topic of Darren's vegetarianism, didn't Ben say that Darren was a
vegetarian in his 'answers to armchair questions' thing that he did ages
and ages and ages ago (you can find part one of this at
< http://www.wfu.edu/~mcdonpj/bff > I think)(wouldn't it be great if Ben
or Robert or Darren did another one of these, hint hint, Frank)

also, maybe meat makes Darren sick because he used to cook hamburgers
for a living (don't ask me where I remember reading this from, but I can
find out if you're desperate)

which is why I think the best song that Darren could cover
would be 'I make hamburgers' by the Whitlams. (The main chorus line
goes: 'I make hamburgers and I get all the girls...')

now there's a cover that is both logical and just plain fun!

taves

"...I said, 'you don't need to be on a diet' and we started going out"
(I make hamburgers~ the Whitlams)(-I think that's how it goes)

oh yeah, one or two other things
d'yknow that the net50->rage thing worked?! SFTD was played on Rage on
Friday night (so even though recovery said its play of the video was an
exclusive, it wasn't) and i stayed up to watch it (why wait til
morning?) and damn it was fun. That video clip rocks.

Emily, I bet the London concert did rock. The reviewer is probably just
a sad git.

Good on the bff screamers in the Recovery audience. We heard ya.
For those of you who don't live in Oz or didn't see it, Robert pretended
to be some sort of security guy ("do you feel safe? Because we can
change things") which was v.funny ("are these walls bulletproof?"). The
clothes were very fetching. I gotta agree with Crystal on the "you're
getting jiggy with it!" from Ben. Adorable. Pity the interviewers were
so dumb. Greater pity that bff didn't play anything. (Apart from 'you're
living in a fantasy world' on that toy music thing. Even on a toy piano
Ben can play and sound great. amazing.) Ah well.

it's been several years since I've sat thru the whole two hours of 'hey
hey it's Saturday' and I swear I will never do it again, unless bff are
on. That show is truly abysmal. bff were good tho, they played brick,
Robert made some nice variations musically on the upright bass and ben
wore a 'geoff harvey fanclub' tee. That's about it.

Well the Melbourne BFF concert was on Friday night, and man, I've never
had so much damn fun in my life. Me and my friends were front row
upstairs, and couldn't have had a better view!!

The boys sounded fantastic, and I've now practically lost my voice from
screaming and singing so much. I wish I could go again.

I watched them on 'hey hey' on Saturday night, and they did 'brick'. Did
anyone else see it? because I thought they looked really unenthused -
compared to the night before anyway.

So who else went on Friday?

Oh yeah - I missed them on 'Recovery' on Saturday morning - did I miss
much?

PS. I love Darren!!

Sorry...I just cannot help myself
Anyways, at Recovery, there was Kel, my mum, Paul, and Kels' friend on one
row (Kel and my mum were in bff shirts) and I was in front of Kel...wearing
my bff shirt too..you can see us just after the 'Coming up: BEN FOLDS FIVE'

There was other fans over the other side (further away from BFF hahahaha)
I remember one of the girls came to Recovery last year, but then she had
c.d's of every band that was there last year, so this year she decides to
bring a sign (damn her and her teenybopper friends)
The sign was crap and written in texta...mine was with paint so ner to
her!! And there was alot of other fans who I reckon just copied me (hehehe,
I'm lame as hell I know)
Anyways, thats us at recovery if you wanted to know...:)
