the concert was last night and probably all the other armchairers have
told you this, but here we go...
snout came on stage at about 8:00 and got off at 8:30 and they took
another 1/2 hour to set up the stage for BF5. So at about 9:00 they
came on and I was practically hyperventilating -- "look, there^Òs
Ben!!" And they played "fair" first, but past that I^Òve forgotten the
order but this is what they played -- Fair, Jackson Cannery, Best
Imitation of Myself, Selfless Cold and Composed, Philosophy, Julianne,
Underground (without intro), Video, The Last Polka, One Angry Dwarf,
Brick, Steven^Òs Last Night in Town, Battle of who could care less,
Emaline, Tom
and Mary, Jamie (to the security guard -- a total improvisation and it
was funny) and they played SFTD last and then played Evaporated for an
encore.
And here^Òs my story -- the Brisbane Magical armchairers signed a shirt
and threw it on stage,
and at the end of SFTD Ben took off his "geoff Harvey fan club" shirt
and he put it on! I was so
so shocked that he actually did that. It was really really really
nice. and I could nearly read my
name from where I was sitting! And my sister was watching me cause I
was nearly hyperventilating from laughing and I was so happy that he
was so nice. I didn^Òt get to meet them before but the concert still
rocked anyway.
I took some photos but the flash wasn^Òt turned on so they won^Òt work
out but I^Òm gonna get them developed anyway in case one or two work
out from the 20 that I took. If they work I^Òll put them on my web page.
In a state of total happiness Crystal
P.S -- my web page is at http://members.xoom.com/crystal_bf5
everyone please go there even though there^Òs not really anything
special there , except I have got a couple of desktop pictures that
are worth getting for your computer but they aren^Òt up quite yet. Also
anyone else whose got a web page, can you link to my page for me, and
send me any links you have or whatever and I^Òll put them on for you.

hey everyone, i figured since i never posted before and there is nothing
really else to do, that i'd write a little something.
ben folds five isn't my favorite band but they're number 4 which is pretty
good if ya ask me. in order, my favorite bands are...
1-rem
2-better than ezra
3-foutains of wayne
4-ben folds five <woo hoo>
my favorite ben folds five songs are underground and tom and mary... don't
ask. my favorite song of all time is electrolite by rem. its groovy tunes.
i first say ben folds five on the jenny mccarthy show when they played one
angry dwarf. i was hooked right after i saw that.
i don't know if i'm insane or not (i prolly am) but on the inside of naked
baby photos, in the booklet thingie, i think ben looks adorable. i don't
know, he's a cute guy.
well, that's all for now. rock on forever.

goes that idea...
anyway, in response to that person that was goin on about the 14 year fans
who barely know brick.. well i'm 14 myself and i liked them before that song
came out. it's really not fair to say that they barely know anything about
the band just because they're younger.

Hey hey everybody-
Okay...I'm only gonna post this once:
A couple of weeks ago I went to this record store. Well, they'd had all these
BFF posters up on their door for quite some time...and I asked the chick at
the counter if they would be mad enough to sell them. (These are the kind of
posters you can't buy...they're the ones record stores recieve for buying
shipments.) Anyway, she said, "No.....but I can GIVE them to you; just as
long as you take all ( 7 ) of them." Ha! You guys know where I'm going with
this. So I'm thinking...I don't have any bootlegs of BFF. (It's so hard to
get into the bootleg underground. You can't be in it if you don't have a
bootleg to begin with. And no one is nice enough to make you one. It's some
sort of horrible circle...) So if anyone is willing to make a trade...(a good
trade, don't jack me around...) E-mail me. That's it...goodnight everybody.

Keep it real

Daryl

Listen to me people! I have been on this mailing list for about three
days, and I have already seen numerous bashings and arguments and various
other callouts. Can't we all just get along?
We're all on this list together becaUSE we all love BF5. Who cares if
somebody likes Brick. It's a good song. I'm not ashamed to say I like
it. Shouldn't recognize others differences of opinions and respect them?
We should just let love rule, because isn't that what Ben Folds Five
music is all about? Love. (hear birds chirping in background)
ON to happier subjects. Does anyone know where I can find some music for
Song For the Dumped (specifically, but other music will do). I've been
to a couple sites that have some music, but it's basically limited. I
don't play piano. I want to arrange some of their songs for guitar.
Mostly as a stylistic experiment. Piano is fine though, because I
wouldn't mind trying to learn to play.
Greg

All right, so this Total Request thing is a little more difficult than I
originally thought. According to their website (not me), Total Request is on
Tuesday - Friday at 3pm (est) and re-runs only on Tuesday and Thursday nights
at 9 pm(est). This contradicts what I originally had posted -- my bad :).

As far as an e-mail address, there is none (this also contradicts previous
posts). You have to go here and submit an entry form:

www.mtv.com/mtv/tubescan_launch.html

OR visit MTV's AOL page to submit a form

OR you can call 1-800-DIAL-MTV

That's all I could find on the web page. So I don't know about you guys, but
on Tuesday Aug 4th (between 12:30 and 1:30), I'm gonna be calling that damn
number and requesting BF5. And if it doesn't work....well....we tried!

5) You make your dad transcribe all BFF songs without the word "fuck" in
them into sheet music which you can then post on a BFF website as your own
doing. (Coming soon to a web near you!)

4) When you point out the unrestrained brilliance of "Fanny Packs" to
your friends, they all scratch their heads and wrinkle their brows.

3) "Alice Childress" has run through your head 5,934 times since you woke
up and you're *still* not tired of it.

2) You start to notice that every love interest you have in some way looks
like Darren, Robert, but especially Ben.

SPEAKING OF A FAN CLUB... I'm willing to dig in past digests (just a
little though) for the person who mentioned starting the fan club, but if
s/he'd come forward voluntarily, you'd make my day! I'm itching for a
project, let's get this thing rolling. Or if someone already has
something in the works, I'd very much like to be a part of it. Again,
email to the above addy.

Conan O'Brien appearance on 7/16/98, "Song for the Dumped", is up for
grabs if anyone wants to trade. You know where to find me.

Subject: woo-HOO!!!!! bff in brisbane

my brain is still a whirl, but here goes

the brisbane show rocked, oh yes it did!!!
(but I agree with that article a couple digests ago about the concert
being more rock than pop....)
damn the brickheads who don't know what 'the bass players name is...'
(how dare you call yourselves fans) and people who squash rather than
mosh.... I think i would have enjoyed the concert even more if I could
have actually moved an inch.

i (and other brissie MAers) met darren and ben and robert - wow!
and not just once but several times - triple wow!
they were nice, lovely, friendly people - especially darren, who went
out of his way for us MAers, and ben for remembering my request and...

I asked ben before the show if he was going to play 'best imitation' and
he said they don't normally, but they could...
and they did!!
after the show, I thanked him and told him how much I appreciated that
and he said 'yeah I remembered' and clasped my hand (whataguy...)

erin organised a black t-shirt and wrote 'sorry it didn't work out the
way we thought it would...' on the front and 'magical armchair,
brisbane' on the back and we all signed it.
and in a truly majestic throw, she got it right to ben and before SFTD
he put it on!!!
woo-hoo!!!!

sorry if this isn't coherent, but I'm still on a high...

those guys are the most amazing musicians! phenomenally talented, all
three of them (as if you all didnt already know this....)

i liked the way ben changed the line in steven's last night to: 'he's
fucked everyone here, except....'

hi to dan, paul, erin, anna, crystal, vicki and craig.
it was great to meet ya'll.
lauren, I thought of you, poor poor girl

more on the show tomorrow, when I'm hoping that my heart will stop
racing at a hundred miles an hour...

wow.
wow.
wow.

Good morning people,

Been lurking for a few days, and thought I'd show my ugly face and spout
forth for a while.

The one calling themselves "jaedonely", if that is your real name, wrote:

"And all the VJs are so cute and have lovely accents!!! Go MTV Europe Go!

What?! For those who have unfortunately missed out on MTVEurope, I had to
sit through a couple of years of it until MTVUK got of the ground. For
cute, try ugly, for lovely accents, try really-annoying-dodgy-english. It
sucks. Believe me, I implore thee.

Someone who's name eludes me, tho it may have been the same person, wrote:

"It was this skeevy rap version of Kung Fu Fighting"

And you know the really scary thing? It got as high in the charts as no.
12, if my memory serves me correctly, which it rarely does. That's, I
think, not only higher than any proper Bus Stop song (not exactly hard :))
but higher than any BFF song. That too, sucks.

The new British geezer, Dave, wrote his fave bands/artistes:

"...Super Furry Animals
but most of all... BEN FOLDS FIVE!!!!!
I DEFY ANYONE TO COME UP WITH ANYONE WHO MAKES COOLER MUSIC".

Now, I'm going out on a limb here, I never really thought I'd say this,
but.... I reckon SFA's make "cooler" music than BFF. There. I've said it.
Especially Smokin' and Hermann loves Pauline. sooo groovy.

"I hope I haven't ostracised myself with this email,"

Well, the fact we all got it three times probably hasn't got you off to a
good start, but seeing as you're of British blood, I welcome you.

Till the next time,

Luke

Hey Fivers!

Anyone hear the interview with Tony Martin and Mick Malloy from Martin
Malloy with Ben Folds yesterday. It was pretty funny. But any interview
with those two guys and Ben would be hilarious.

The interview started off with Tony Martin asking about The boys run in
with Geoff Harvey and cracking some jokes about that. Then they were just
talking about the popularity of their album and Brick in Oz, and then about
Brick again and then about SFTD.

Then Ben was asked if Ben would write any songs about Australia. And Ben
said something about a song called "I root all day" or something close,
I'll have to listen to it again.

The there was stuff about his grilfriend Frally and how her parents didn't
like the thought about their daughter living with an American rockstar who
treats pianos the way he does.

They talked about other things as well and there was heaps of laughing in
between. It was a about a 15 minute interview with Brick played in the middle.

Also, I went into HMV today and they were selling a different Brick single.
The one with Smoke and the Japanese version of SFTD.

Anyways, must get going!

AnnaB

Also, I'm soo jealous of those BFFers who got to go to the second show. I
would have loved to hear She Don't Use Jelly and Evaporated LIVE. I should
have got tickets for the second show as well. I guess it is just my bad luck.
