I came to this conclusion on my own as well. And I have heard Walter
Cronkite refered to as "uncle walter". In his day, Walter Cronkite was
one of the most respected people in America...All Cronkite had to do was
raise an eyebrow, or cast a stern look at an interview subject, and the
public would instantly think "oh, well Walter doesn't quite agree with
that". He was a very, very powerful man, and what did he do? Read the
news every day at 6:00. I think the song plays along with this. Here is a
man who read off of a sheet of paper for a living, but is one of the most
powerful menin America. I think the song poke fun at him, saying that at
the end of the day he went home and was just like your uncle or mine,
sitting in his magical armchair, drunk watching the television, with
cigarettes and a six-pack. But that's just my theory.

Hey Armchair,
Not to get off post, but I'd like to add a fond farewell to Toad.
Great songs, great vibe, great to see live... Can't wait to hear that
Glen Phillips/Ben Folds collaboration, though.
Further off post, emmet swimming is the name to watch on that
Athenaeum/Black Lab/Emmet bill. Folks, you GOTTA check out their 2nd
album, "Wake" (usually discounted at fine record stores), even though it
sounds nothing like Ben Folds Five. Diversity, my son, diversity...
And back on post, I FINALLY got my burner up and running. So, to whom
it may concern: Those Ben Folds CD-Rs are (belatedly) coming your way!
Sorry for the delay, but once you hear all 21 tracks of this thing,
you'll agree it was worth it.

Later,
rICH

I went to BFF here in Adelaide and they went off!! Best concert I've ever been
to. After, we went to the Rhino Room, got to meet Rob and Darren (sucked in!)
and they are the coolest guys. The next night they played a secret gig at the
Rhino Room, sadly I was not there.

Subject: about Uncle Walter

At The Warfield (or was it at the Shoreline? I forget) Ben told a little
story. And it went a little something like this.

When Ben was 14, he was in a band. The other guys in the band were like 16.
During rehearsals when they went out on beer runs, they left poor little Ben
at home with somebody's old drunk mom, who told him endless stories and hacked
in his face. So this WOMAN was the inspiration for Uncle Walter. Which is
one of my favorite BFF songs :) Isn't that nice?

gone, cos I was going to hide it myself..(maybe I did...and forgot!)
Anyhoo's I really don't see much else being written by me that is

Evening all,

I taped all of the Live at the Wireless broadcast, the playlist
(though short) was good:

Theme from Dr. Pyzar (spelling?)
Emaline
Missing the war
Steven's last night in town
Brick
SFTD

They did the string and palm thing in SFTD again, a nice flash back to
the concert for me... and one of the guys (Robert?) screamed out "I
love you Ben!" before Brick... a not-so-pleasant flash back to the
concert... It is a quiet recording (no studio audience) but their
sense of humour comes through.

If anyone wants a copy get back to me... oh my god, does this mean I
can get into that underground trading thing???? WHOOHOO!

Ela
