Hey all, thought I'd put in my two cents about this whole thing, seeing as
at the one BFF show I've been to (The Big Shindig) I was one of say, about
30 Blacks at the entire show (and if you were at the Shindig you know what
kind of numbers I'm talking about). Also, I was the only black person at
the Semisonic show in Raleigh back in April or something. The main reason
I know that more black people don't listent to rock is because it's
stigmatized as "white music" whatever the hell that means. Unfortunately
BFF gets caught up in this simply because they are white. It's ugly, but
it's true.

Of course there are crossover acts, but even sometimes, they are accused of
trying to be something they are not. Examples: Living Colour, Jon B.,
Lenny Kravitz, etc. This is just due to people being rabidly prejudiced
and small-minded; not thinking out of the box. And I speak from
experience; all my life I've got shit for listening to "white music." I
just feel sorry for those who are missing entire genres that they might
actually enjoy simply because the music is coming from someone of a
different color.

I do agree that BFF should have a more diverse audience. Hell, I'm doing
my part, I got my boyfriend hooked to them and my family have heard them
continuously for years. But they won't have a voluntarily (sp?) diverse
audience unless prejudice and ignorance ends.

- - Hey, do you think the friend's mother ever listened to "Uncle Walter"
knowing that it's about her? I'd feel pretty damn priviledged to be the topic
of a BF5 song, as I'm sure all of you would. :)

- - They played Battle on the Real World. They never seem to wanna play the
videos, but always play the beginnings of songs. Actually, it's annoying,
because they just repeat the beginning over & over again, when I'm waiting for
the rest, you know?

I taped Sessions and watched it the next day and I can't tell you how much fun
I had watching those guys dance around in the background! It was obvious that
at least the guy with the hat on was a BFF fan - he was mouthing a lot of the
words. I was just wondering if he or his friends were on the Armchair. If
so, you guys put on a great performance!
