 hello-
my apologies for the non bff stuff but this is very relevant to the list,
as you will see.....

- -How many people does it take to change a light bulb in cyberspace?
-1 to successfully change the light bulb and to post to the mail list
that the light bulb has been changed.
-14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the
light bulb could have been changed differently.
-7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs.
-27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light
  bulbs.
-53 to flame the spell checkers.
-156 to write to the list administrator complaining about the light
bulb discussion and its inappropriateness to this mail list.
-41 to correct spelling in the spelling/grammar flames.
-109 to post that this list is not about light bulbs and to please
take this email exchange to alt.lite.bulb.
-203 to demand that cross posting to alt.grammar, alt.spelling and
alt.punctuation about changing light bulbs be stopped.
-111 to defend the posting to this list, saying that, "We are all
using light bulbs and therefore the posts **are** relevant to
  his mail list."
-306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior,
where to buy the best light bulbs, what brands of light bulb work
best for this technique, and what brands are faulty.
-27 to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs.
-14 to post that the URLs were posted incorrectly and to post
  corrected URLs.
-3 to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant to
this list, which makes light bulbs relevant to this list.
-33 to collate all posts to date, then quote them including all
headers and footers, and then add "Me Too."
-12 to post to the list that they are unsubscribing because they
cannot handle the light bulb controversy.
-19 to quote the "Me Too's" to say, "Me Three."
-4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ.
-1 to propose new alt.change.lite.bulb newsgroup.
-47 to say that this is just what this list was meant for, leave it
  here.
 -143 votes for a new list alt.lite.bulb.
-38 votes proclaiming the advantages in using vintage light bulbs.

take care

Subject: A Few Complaints and Things

hey, all,

long time no post. probably 'cause i finally got a job. anyway:

1. Please please please, people, if your mailer automatically quotes the
message you're replying to in your reply, use your delete key so we all
don't have to see the last digest in the next one. The usual argument
for why this isn't a big deal is that we all have a page-down key.
except you're making thousands and thousands of people use that key,
instead of courteously preventing the situation...

2. Alright, this is a little more anal, but is there any way that those
who seem to be posting their messages in mime format could supress it?
that's slightly annoying and unprofessional, too. not that any of us are
doing this for a living...

3. Race and BFF:Far be it from me to tell people to listen to music if
it isn't their thing. As Aristotle said, there's no accounting for
taste. If people of any race decide that BFF doesn't speak to them in
the way that it does for me, then what ya gonna do? And I can totally
see that possibility of it being a personal choice. However, if race
relations lead people to make categorial decisions and never open
themselves to the possibility of liking this band, and would otherwise
like them, then I think that's an unfortunate situation. But a byproduct
of the culture we live in, and obviously not the person's fault. How far
beyond the everyday tension that often comes from living with minority
difference are people expected to see? It is not my place to dictate.
The most unfortunate situation is a person of color coming to a concert
and possibly feeling overconscious of the fact that they're in a huge
room full of white people. i know this happens in a variety of
situations, so I'm sure it happens here...I tend to notice a certain
difference in legitamacy between a 'white' person listening to 'black'
music and vice-versa, which i tend to attribute to the politics of being
a minority in a society rife with institutional racism (as well as the
direct variety). Keep in mind with all of this that i am speaking of
whatever small experience i have with the situation in the United
States, and really have no idea how race relations work in other
countries.

- -- Hey, can I ask a favor -- when you reply to the digest, please don't
include the entire previous digest in your post. Thanks!

- -- Anyone hear anything about whether or not BF5 would be contributing to the
John Lennon tribute album? I haven't heard anything to confirm it, and I was
wondering what song they'd do.

- -- Instead of worrying about blacks liking BF5, why don't you try to make
*everyone* like BF5? Seems like a better idea to me. People will like what
they like, you know? And no one should criticize anyone for liking rap, r&b,
and stuff like that, because they could just as easily say your musical tastes
suck, or mine, or anyone's. But we all know liking BF5 gives you some credit
in that department. :) Know what I mean?

Subject: GOOD NEWS & HHEEELLPP!!!

well the good news is that on my webpage (http://rsl.net/bff) i am ready
to present to you all the all new "concert of the month" in mp3 format!
basically every month, i will choose a live show to be put on the page in
mp3 format for all of you guys to download.... this was something i
always wanted to be able to do, so i thought i would give it a whirl.
the show i have made riht now is pretty cool, and the quality is pretty
high......

so here is bad news.... i have my first show all ready to go, ripped,
encoded and ready, when the web provider i was going to upload it to
crashes or some weird deal and now they wont host me with the amount of
space i require... thats where all you guys come in! i need webspace
badly!!! i need roughly 75 megabytes to put up the whole show. if you
know of a provider (i would really, really, really love it to be free!!!)
that is reliable and then maybe a couple others, well, i could just get
a few scattered accounts, which is fine! i just need a total of about 75
megs.... PLEASE HELP!! i really want to do this!!

thanks--
philip

Subject: jc 45...um yeah

I'm not trying to piss Bill off or anything, because I want the jc 45
extremely bad, BUT do ya really think bidding is fair either? Besides it
being illegal (not really concerned about that aspect) it's really ripping
off the band that's busted their ass to get where they are today, they
deserve & should get every penny that they make. I responded to this
because I thought you would except trades for this, but the only thing you
except is cash or "rare bf5 cd's." WELL, I only have 1 copy of my "rare bf5
cds"...so I guess that counts me out. I guess I won't be placing my bid
along with the 20 some other people. But guys realize something...how much
do you think he paid for this, if he paid for it at all? You're biting your
own self in the ass if you go for this one.

"word up, solid!",
