WARNING ON OFF-TOPIC MESSAGES
I hate to have to be list-mom again, but consider this a warning that
those who post off-topic messages may be removed from the Armchair. I
consider much of the recent discussion on racial matters to be off-topic,
particularly the personal insults, and the discussion is largely
inappropriate. Like your mom, my judgment may appear to be arbitrary but
in order to keep an all-out fight from breaking out, some of you are going
to have to go to your room.

Fellows fans! I am a mere babe when it comes to the whole bootleg thingy! I
have none to trade to get myself started! I'm willing to send any number of
blank tapes to a kind soul who would copy ANY boot of decent quality from any
Ben Folds show.
I havent heard any new material(to me anyway - save Half Asleep and the Hard
Rock Live performance ) in months and I'm desperate to hear something new from
the boys. (something I havent heard in other words) If you got a show with
Air I's be especially happy - or perhaps a live "Best Imitation" - never heard
that one live.
Email me if you feel the urge puh-lease!

nonono. Just clarifying this: don't mistake the frogs as pumpkin rip-offs
just because they are assosciated with them. Their earlier stuff consisted of
mostly, erm, shock-folk, which is pretty far from the Smashing Pumpkins. They
had one really great album, _It's Only Right and Natural_, and then their
later stuff isn't nearly as fantastic. _Starjob_ is damn good, but it's not
close to IORAN. THAT album is as close as you'll pin them to being Pumpkin-
clones (and I know you didn't say that, you hinted at it.).

Ok, as long as that's clear.

Seriously, who cares if there's not any black people at their show? Hey-are
there any Ben Folds Five fans out there with HAZEL eyes???? I'm sure there's
a black person dancing around to the piano like a fool, just like the rest of

Hey guys, I just thought id amuse you with some Ben Folds Five related
stuff....

Last week i went on vacay to Myrtle Beach, SC, and i met a girl who said Ben
went to her high school, which is called Reynolds, and is in Winston-Salem,
NC. I thought that was reeeally awesome, and i told her i would pay her buku
bucks for an old yearbook. However, I wont act like i know for sure that he
went there, becuase i know one of you assholes will be all rude about it and
tell me that he didnt go there, she was lying, and I'm stupid for believing
her. So there, i saved you the trouble.

I also scored another BFF promo poster to add to my collection down there.
When the oh so nice guy took it off the wall, he replaced it with a Snoop
Doggy Dogg promo. Yay for me.

On the way back up to New Jersey, i made a stop in Chapel Hill, to see what
its like where the guys are from...i know, I'm SO cheesy, i even amaze myself.
Its cute, but i think the only thing to do there is eat at ethnic restaurants
and go to a car dealership. i was still thrilled that i was there. We drove
into one of the developments (btw-everyone that lives in that town should be
scared for their life if theres a bad storm..) and i looked around for houses
that resembled the one on the website (i assume thats THE house, and if im
wrong, id appriciate if someoen woudl tell me nicely), but i didnt see any. I
didnt expect to, though.

dont have a cheesy closure line.....

Hello Everyone.

I would like to take back my offer, after realizing the fact that selling
nationally broadcasted items for a profit is illegal. I stepped forward
with the wrong foot, so before everyone starts writing to me about what a
horrible person I am, and whatever, please realize I've decided what I
did is wrong, and I take it back. I'm a nice person, I really am, but
like every human being, I make mistakes, and that was one of them. My
apologies. Have a nice day.

Hillary

So I wrote Gladhands the other day, and Doug wrote me back with a very nice
letter. Anyway he informed me that our Robert took a day out from his busy
schedule to cut a track with them, that will appear on their new album. That
album is due out or suppose to be out in Jan. of '99. Just thought you'd like
to know :) And if you haven't already you really should go check them out,
they're simply wonderful.

(which I have to say is pretty scary.)

Next stop, elevator music. Hmmm...

Didn't Ben look like he was enjoying himself so much while he was playing
"Emaline"? He looked really into it... I could imagine him at home in his
practice room, playing it by himself, just for his own enjoyment. Really
refreshing to see that.

Subject: Ben Fold Five fan wins big

Ben Folds Five fan, Marcus Kamp, of Kenmore, Washington, won third
place with his band, Sinforosa, in the Battle of the Bands contest in Seattle
on August 8. The B.O.B. was part of the 56th annual Lake City Pioneer Days
Festival sponsored in part by the Jet City Maven, a community newspaper
serving North Seattle.

Kamp first found out about the B.O.B through a contact he met on the BF5
mailing list. Maven publisher, Susan Park, had emailed a call to all Seattle
area readers to find out if anyone was going to a BF5 concert at DV8 last
winter. Kamp had responded and the two had begun conversing via email.
Kamp sent out emails to Park announcing gigs for his band, "Sinforosa."

When Park mailed out entries for the B.O.B, she included "Sinforosa" on
the list. Kamp entered his band with their new one-song C.D. demo, titled
"hypnopotion." Kamp plays percussion.

Sinforosa placed seventh out of thirty-three entrants, placing them on the
"alternates" list. When the Portland based band, The Daylights, dropped out
because their drummer quit, Sinforosa was substituted.

Sinforosa won third place out of six competing bands, primarily because of
good stage presence. Judge James Bush of the Seattle Weekly said he chose
Sinforosa because Kamp is such an exceptional drummer. Stranger writer
and judge, Steve Humphrey, said he chose them because their lead singer,
Traci Nemeth, is a "cutie-patootie."

Winning first place in the B.O.B. was Pint O' Guiness, a celtic-punk band
based in Fircrest, Washington. Superblue, a rock blues band out of
Ballard, placed second.

Sinforosa beat out three bands, all based in Seattle: Ripple, a rock band
based in Seattle; Fiddlers Three, an acoustic pop band; and The Terriers, a
novelty rock band.

Playing drums for the Terriers was Chris Ballew of the now defunct
Seattle band, The Presidents of the United States. Bellew listed himself
under the pseudonym, "Crimson Yellow #3."

Ironically, two members of Sinforosa have played for the Terriers. Kamp
has sat in on keyboards and bass player, Derek Brown, was formerly of the
band.
