Yey, I love this sorta stuff!
Numero uno: Evaporated-How could anyone not like this song? Does it honestly
need justification? Well, granted, I'm sure there are a few, if not many, who
do not like the song but MY reasons for liking it are basically supported by
the fact that it can make me cry For No Reason Whatsoever. Plus, it's a good
song to listen to when you want to listen to Ben and fall asleep. Then you
wake up randomly throughout the night hearing that song. Ahh, such is heaven.
#2-Alice Childress-Not quite as emotional, but the lines where they start off,
"Thank God it's you..." blah blah blah are unbelievable to me. I make everyone
stop singing when that part comes on. It's so beautiful. "Took everything I
had!"
I can't even begin to pick a #3 thru whatever because one day I'll love one
and the next I'll love another, not hating the last, but just giving it a
rest. Kinda like the albums. I'll love NBP one day and love WAEA the next and
yet, s/t gets me every time. But I guess it's a close fight between OAD (the
song that got me into them), Underground, SC&C, Last Polka, Sports and Wine,
Jackson Cannery, Uncle Walter, Where's Summer B.?, Philosophy, BOWCCL, SFTD,
etc, etc, etc.
I also saw the cheesy VH1 show. I guess I was watching it because I like
Jeopardy a lot and it's a music remake of it, even if it is on VH1. I got
rather excited when I saw the clue for BF5, although they were known as the
"Brick band" Ahh, oh well. They even had a Beatles category. I was a happy
camper that night! :)
Last, but not least, last night was the first and most likely ONLY night I've
ever watched Dawson's Creek and it's the one with "Evaporated" on it. Woo Hoo!
Good timing on my part for being quite bored!
Well, that'd be all for yours truly. Sorry nothing substantially important.
Peace out.

Ben Folds Five is basically all I listen to. I find sometime to
squeeze in some Dave Matthews Band every now and then. When is Ben's
new album coming out...I know it is this fall, but I want specifics. I
want to start saving. When is the new BF5 album coming out too? Hey
Crystal! where did you find the site with the birthdays on it?
Okay..that is enough questions for now.
Oh yeah...I wanted to add that it is so hard to just name favorite
BFF songs. I love them all. When I sit at my computer I have to decide
if I am in the mood for a little NBP, WEAEA, BF5, or those unreleased
demo RealAudio files I got on my computer.
Doesn't anybody else think Half Asleep and Mitchell Lane are some
good mellow songs to chill out to? If you haven't heard these before
you are missing out. You can hear them at this website.

Check it out..Woah! I sure did type a lot!

The first song that got me interested in BFF (after my dad played the
album about a million times every car ride) was Selfless Cold and
Composed after I noticed the 6/8 feel with the rolls and all gave it a
very similar feel to Guiraldi's Skating. Guiraldi is one of my favorite
pianists, so it was really amazing to see someone post this...

The Squirrel Nut Zippers video was filmed in a fraternity house here at
Chapel Hill, while BFF happened to be around town this spring. I wouldn't
say the bands are chummy, but from what I've heard they're mutual
admirers and get along and all that good stuff. It was probably just a
case of good timing, if anything.

Other bands to look out for:
Jump, Little Children, who just released an album on Atlantic. They're
fabulous.
The Everyday People, a cool Scandinavian band that I saw open for DMB the
other night. Rockin', fun, yay.
Dag. If you like George Clinton, you'll like Dag. 'Nuff said.
Belle and Sebastian--I know lots of BFF fans are B&S fans, and B&S have a
new album coming out next week, so buy it! The best way to describe them
is pretty. :)
These are two really small bands that if you aren't from NC, you haven't
heard of, but I think they'll make it big so keep an ear out: The
X-periment, a funky, trippy, jazz outfit from Charlotte, and Sankofa, an
amazing hip-hop-ish group out of Chapel Hill.
And as always, Snuzz. Give Ben's little bro, Eddie Walker, and Britt some
lovin', because they sure as hell deserve it!

Ginger :)

Ya know, it's funny you should mention that. I just started school this past
Monday, and I have study hall first hour. We have a designated math tutor in
our study hall (Mr. Roberts), and the first day when he came in, I could've
sworn Ben Folds himself had just walked through the door. It's uncanny.

Hey there!

I was just reading yesterday's issue and saw that Ben's b-day is September 12.
Shouldn't we send him a MA birthday card or something? I know that he doesn't
really open the mail, but it coes go to Chapel Hill and it might reach him or
someone close to him.

And also... I was curious as to which bands the boys themselves are partial
to. I know they've claimed their love of Rage in the past, but what else? I
already know about Built to Spill and a couple of Ben's favs, but what about
Darren and the Robster?

That's all for now,
Jon.

OK, bubbas!! Cheak this out.. I get to read these Armchairs at like, 10pm,
when I get home from work.. I'm already muy tired, but I come on and read
about my favorite band, from my favorite people, the true fans, and want to
know the juicy UP TO DATE information ;)... Not something that was written
about 2 months ago... Has anyone else noticed this trend setting in???? BFF
debuted in the SNZ's video, like last month, correct?? Now, the people that
are posting NOW about just seeing it, did you not read the 3 WHOLE Armchairs
dedicated only to that?? Or the people with Dawson's Creek and having
Evaporated playing in the background... Wow, can't even count the issues that
that was in... Or Letterman's band playing bits of BFF songs... I mean
seriously, I know I have a scroll bar to pass all this repeat garbage, but you
also have old Armchairs with this same information, you know?? Sorry to be a
total nag and bitch central, but I am tired right now, and it is kinda stupid
to send all this again.. Just try to keep it in mind, k??? Thanx mucho!!! :)

A hile ago I decided to pursue buying a Farewell Tour Jersey. At
first I thought I'd wait 'til the boys were out on tour again, and
then get one....then I got impatient. So then i decided to search the
Chicagoland Area...to no avail. So I went to plan C and went to the
web page to order. My dad was letting me use his credit card and then
I got to the bottom of the page were it said to call the ordering
number. I called the number and after getting the message and the
beep hung up, I was unsure of what to do, because I was expecting
someone to answer or something, so I consulted my Dad. He then said I
oculdn't leave his credit-card number on an answering machine, so
after all of that it takes me to aobut right now...Does anyone know
of any way I can order the Farewell Tour Jersey w/ a Credit Card and
not have ot leave my Dad's Credit Card Number on a machine? Thank you
for your time, you may return to your normal business...

truthfully this is my view on the whole thing: I love Ben Folds
Five, the writing is truly amazing and the music leaves me
speechless almost every time. But I agree...I listen to their
self-titled and my 'Where's Summer B?' single a lot more than
Whatever and Ever Amen. Don't get me wrong, I love that album
too. But there's something about the rawness of their older stuff,
some of the writing on Whatever and Ever Amen just seemed to be
more.....radio friendly. I would have to say two of my favorite
songs by them are "The Last Polka", for it's roller coaster quality,
(if you share this love, you know what that means :) ) and
"Evaporated" because of the just...it's amazing because I've been
there. "I poured my heart out and it evaporated". When I heard
that line I said 'yeah'.
I don't agree with the "selfless, cold and composed" thing. I
love that song. I've been there so many times that I cry when I
hear it. "Come on, baby just throw me a right to the chin, don't
just stare like you never cared, I know you did" If you haven't
been there..you've never lost love.
I just am sick of the radio. I found myself programing WAEA so I
don't hear 'Brick' and Song For The Dumped' and I hate the radio
for that, because they played those songs so much that I got sick of
them. Don't get me wrong, I still like them, my brain is just
warn out.

YES!!!!

Also, I just thought I might add... I am a gymnast, and I am looking for some
floor music, and I thought the begining of Selfless would be AWESOME for part
of a routine. I was thinking of mixing several BFF songs together (I would
have it professionally cut, considering if I cut them myself I end up
butchering the songs).

I don't know who out there either does gymnastics or has any idea about
gymnastics floor music... But if anyone does: what do you think of mixing some
BFF songs, and which ones do you think I should put together?

Crystal, you have made my day. My birthday is Sept. 12. If those
birthdays are correct, I have Ben's b-day! How very awesome. Anyway,
does anyone know where a list of their tour dates are? I live in
Florida, and it seems like everyone avoids touring here, so I doubt
that they'll be around, but I figure it's worth asking. I'll drive
pretty far if I need to. Also, as far as my favorite BFF songs, it's
really really hard to choose. SFTD is awesome, because it perks up my
mood every time I hear it. Considering the subject, I suppose that
seems awful, but too bad. I also am completely and totally in love
with Eddie Walker, One Angry Dwarf, and every other song they do, come
to think of it. You guys have been listing great bands that you love.
I was especially happy to see They Might Be Giants one someone's
list. I love them so. My favorites are all over the place. I love
Garbage, Fiona Apple, Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies (I got to kiss the
singer when I saw them live!), Fastball (very nice guys), Sarah
McLachlin (I don't know how to spell her name), Matthew Sweet (he was
a jerk in person, though!), Liz Phair, and Dave Matthews Band. To
name a few.

ok, this is my first posting for the armchair, so please be patient.
hee hee. anyways, last week, i decided to buy "what ever and ever
amen". before that, i was only familier with "Brick" and "song for the
dumped". well, can i just say that i was amazed? well, i was. i have
been playing the cd over and over in my car, and i can't stop. it seems
that there is a song for my every mood. and i know you all know how
great it is to yell "well F*ck you too!". so i've been surfng the net
about BBF, and found this mailing list. hopefully, i can find out more
about BBF, and find out when they are comming to play near me, since
evidently (at least according to my reseach) no one knows what the hell
they (BBF) are doing right now. and i desperately need to see them in
concert, or i could possibly die. a really slow death. painfully slow.
anyways, that is all for now.
