i saw something similar to this at vintage vinyl once....i'm not sure if
that's what it was called, but there were like 5 songs from WAEA on it...i
didn't buy it b/c i wasn't obsessed back then, just midly interested :)
however, i have never seen that cd since and i wish i had bought it...

This is all so ridiculous. I'm sure Ben knows his fans wish him a happy
birthday. I don't think a card is actually going to make its way into
his hands anyhow. Just type 'Happy Birthday' on this damn mailing list &
since Ben knows about it, and his brother is on it, if he cares, he'll
get the message.

That's all...

Allison,

Oh, sure, just because it had piano in it you think it sounds like Ben Folds
Five! Well let me tell you something, don't listen to your parents, they are
ignorant! Don't listen to your younger siblings, they hate you! And not only
that, your friends are stupid! And the news is a conspiracy! Hehehehe.

and the singer sounded alot like Ben. I really wished the DJ would have given
the name of the song, or atleast the artist who did the song, but he didnt.
All I know about this song now is it had the line "back when my hair was
short" in it. Any of you think you've heard this song?

God, alls I've ever seen from you Jess is happy posts, and this one just
came out of nowhere. I for one do not like all the comparisons either,
but I can see the Joe Jackson thing. And yes I've been listening to him
since I can remember. There are slight similarities. As for the Lovin'
Spoonful, you are entitled to your opinion, but I think it's wrong. They
were one of the best bands out of the sixties, and they were far from
being a one-hit-wonder. If you ask anyone who lived through the sixties
what one of the dominatingly popular bands of the late sixities were,
and I'm sure you'll hear from most of them, The Lovin' Spoonful. John
Sebastian was one of the most talented songwriters of his time. They had
many hits, and they were all very good songs. That's all for now kids,

Everybody's talking about their birthday's and although mine unfortunately is
not September 12th, it's September 29th, which is pretty soon...anyway, I'm
gonna try to connect it to ben's...Lets see...alright...Mine's 17 days after
Ben's and I'm going to be turning 17 so I guess that gives us a pretty clear
connection already. Well, see ya!

First off I was watching the New York Yankee's game today and I noticed
that Scott Brosius of the Yanks mildly resembles Ben, pretty cool. Next
I just bought the new Better Than Ezra cd, and it's VERY good, they've
really changed it seems, a few songs sound a bit like Radiohead. I
personally recommend it.

Take it easy, have fun, and be safe,
Dustin

I think it would be great to send Ben something for his birthday (cuz
you know we all love him!).
And on the Japanese Brick EP, I believe the other tracks are all of
those present on the Australian Brick single (Smoke w/strings, ska Kate,
Mitchell Lane) with the remix of Fair with strings.

Regarding Semisonic . . . I recently picked up the CD a few days ago,
and yeah, I noticed that "Never You Mind" (one of my favourite tracks)
did sound a little Foldsish in its piano style, though I think it would
definately need to have a little more fervor and "oomph" to be mistaken
for a Five song - I found it to be sort of a BFF meets The Verve. The
whole album is pretty kewl, though; check 'em out!

How could you say such a thing? All bands have inspirations, so of
course they sound like some other people. For example, on NBP, in
Jackson Cannery, the part where the piano keep time and the base plays
segments sounds exactly like Billy Joel. You talked about uneducated
people. An educated person can recognize similarities and liken them to
other sounds. It takes an idiot like you to yell "Ben Folds Five
doesn't sound like anybody". Nobody's completely original. That's the
beauty of music. It doesn't change, it evolves. Stop being stubborn
and realize that Ben Folds is not god. He's an incredibly talented
musician who has risen to fame. That doesn't make him any worse, it
makes him human. Next time, think before you speak.

Shan -- This is a response to your post about what would have happened
had Ben's girlfriend not had an abortion -- well, Ben Folds Five as we
know it might not exist today, if you think about it. That's not really
something I want to get into, or start talking about
extensively, because it is part of Ben's private life, and I'm not going
to presume to know what happened or what wouldn't have happened because
I listened to Brick or whatever. But I just wanted to say that.

Geez, don't you some of you ever *read* the Armchair? I agree with
Sarah (I think that's who it was?). Some people are getting a little
redundant. Here's a better idea -- keep up with the digests, at least
skim them or something -- that way you won't repeat. Otherwise what's
the point of even subscribing?

Question: I haven't been, um, keeping up on my MTV (Do I really "want
my mtv" anymore, anyway?) and I'm a little confused -- are BF5 up for
some sort of award? Otherwise why else would they be on the fanatic
Nominee Retrospective?

And I was thinking -- while they may not be in very good musical company
on the Sabrina soundtrack, they will probably get a lot of money out of
it, right? Judging from the fact that most of the bands/artists
contributing rented out some Top 40 space at some point (not necessarily
a good thing) and are almost guaranteed to "bring in the bucks"? Who
knows. But maybe BF5 will inspire some of them. ? Do we want that ?

Oh, the new Kate Bush album (I don't know, a compilation? Not really
familiar with her) is called "I Wanna Be Kate." :) I was skimming
Alternative Press and I thought I had found something BFFrelated.

<<Get a Joe Jackson CD from the 99 cent bin and find out that he is good in
his OWN way.>> (etc.)

I can't agree more...although if people hear a genuine resemblence that's ok.
still, I was amazingly mad when I read in YM through a friend that "if you
like Dave Mathews Band, you will like Ben Folds Five." GRR. Can't anybody be
themselves anymore??? I'll admit that i do think certain Elton John and BFF
songs sound the same, but I would not go as far (as certain magazines, TV
shows have done) to say that they sound similar as musicians. Back at the
last BFF show in Philly, there was a guy in front of me who didn't seem to
know the songs too well. After Kate or something, he said something the
effect of, "hey, this kinda sounds like Billy Joel..." ????
