Subject: BFF on Clueless

Hey everybody, long time no post.

I was totally blown away today to walk through the room where my brother was
watching the TV series version of Clueless, when what do I hear but Ben and
the boys cooing Battle! That just made my day...did anybody know about that
show? If it's already been posted, sorry, cause I know how ya'll are about
reposts. ;)

But on a Ben-related note...since the australia tour, the boys are supposed to
be concentrating on their new album and playing "locally"...anyone know where?
Being from NC myself, it'd be nice to get a chance to see them on the
homefront...you guys can e-mail me privately on that one if you know anything.

Thanks everybody...doncha all just love this happy little armchair? :)

If you are wondering what Brick is all about, well it is simple really.
It is about abortion, where young teenage love resulted in a traumatic
experience. Read the lyrics again, and it should be clear. I read this
from the Rolling Stone mag, if you wanted to know.

I found this little bit of something in my mailbox tonight and thought all of you could benefit from it:

http://www.pccmag.com
if you are at all interested in a little behind-the-scenes story
of Ben Folds Five and, coincidentally, there's also a companion reader
(I believe this is it's second printing) strictly concerned with
Ben Folds, the boy behind the man.

Whatever.

If anything, they serve to document the infamous goings-on of Sandi Shorter and Pals. So, yeah, total plug to read my junk.

And I orginally had a different ending that that was sooo rock, but I do believe it got cut. They couldn't take the heat or something.

Anyway, enjoy?

Emily

Subject: jungle girl and 'the interview as burble'

I wuz listening halfheartedly to superrequest last night, when i tuned
in on the interesting lovelife of a lassie name junglegirl. where's the
bentent you ask? well she requested evaporated (ahhh lovely, just what I
needed) and I wondered if she was on the armchair, coz she mentioned
she was an emailer. just curious. well if you are: thanks for evaporated
and your love life in insane.

on other semirelated business:
the interview dylan 'im sooooo alternative I can hardly walk' Lewis did
with bff on recovery, has long frustrated me, simply because dylan is
such an appalling interviewer adn makes such a hash of it. (especially
with such willing and interesting interviewees as bff)
and finally I am vidicated by professional aggreement, which I thought
I'd share:

(fast forward if you simply have far too many other things to do)

this is from the courier mail a while back in an article on interviews
written by the head of English at QUT (my uni and incidentally my
lecturer in english, who I amazed is cognizant with recovery, but
anyway)[the comments in these square brackets are mine]:

"One form of entertainment interview that tries hard not to be an
interview is the music star interview on popular television programmes.
This is a form of burble developed by the veteran pop music interviewer,
Molly Meldrum [who has also tortured bff in interview]. A current
proponent is Dylan Lewis on the ABC Saturday morning program, Recovery.
The features of the interview as burble are that the interviewer's style
should be inarticulate, mumbled, slurred and punctuated with
enthusiastic exclamations [ha! this is so true] and inexplicable
laughter [yes!]. If the interviewees begin to make sense, they should be
interrupted. [can anyone who has seen the bff interview deny the truth
of this?!]
If a group is being interviewed, then confusion as to who is actually
being asked a question should be created through cross-talking and
interruption [note the first part of the interview with Robert and
security act] in order to produce the effect of the general,
enthusiastic burble and the avoidance of anything as uncool as
coherence." [this is amazingly accurate]

frankly I had to share this cause first of all it made me laugh and then
it made me mad, and then I was amazed at how spot on it was.

sorry if you feel your time has been wasted, for a refund dial... XXX

dance all night long childrens

I was at JB HI Fi the other day, and i saw the Jpanese import of Ben
Folds Five. I'm so pissed off cos i had( and HAVE) NO money, so i
couldn't get it. Thought i might share that with you all...
Does anyone know exactly what SFTD (Japanese version) is translated
into? Cos my sisters friend who is Japanese listened to it and said
that instead of "and don't forget to give me back my black T-Shirt"
He says "And i won't forget my black t-shirt" or something like that.
Just curious...

Subject: Vote for SFTD in the MuchMusic poll!

Later this year, MuchMusic (the Canadian equivalent of MTV, although much
better in the sense that they ACTUALLY PLAY MUSIC VIDEOS) will be releasing
volume 3 in its bestselling "Big Shiny Tunes" series of CDs, each of which is
basically a compilation of alternative/powerpop hits from the past year,
chosen by MuchMusic staff... the previous two volumes have each sold several
million copies. Anyway, this time 'round, the public has been given the chance
to vote on which songs we'd like to see included on volume 3. All songs voted-
for must be a single released this year, and have an accompanying video which
MuchMusic can play to promote the compilation. I recommend that we all vote
for Song For The Dumped... if not just to garner some more recognition for the
band, but also to prove to the commoners (or "great unwashed", as a friend of
mine once put it) that there is a side to BFF's music other than the mass-
overplaying of Brick that the public has been spoon-fed by adult-contemporary
radio stations for far too long (since SFTD as a radio single didn't really
seem to do as well as predicted, did it). MuchMusic is also apparently toying
with the idea of releasing a video-compilation of all the songs on "Big Shiny
Tunes 3", which would finally provide an opportunity to see the SFTD video in
the privacy of one's home, for those of us who missed the ONE time that it was
played on MTV.

The voting page can be accessed through:
http://www.levi.com/canada/home.html

I still haven't been able to find out whether the voting is open to U.S.
residents... seeing as how it only includes text fields for "province" and
"postal code", I can imagine that it's only supposed to be open to
Canadians... therefore, if you live in the U.S., it would probably be best to
only fill in the text-fields marked "required" (name, email, birthdate,
gender), leaving the address fields blank.

You're allowed to pick 3 songs, and the site says "you only get one vote"...
although since it doesn't force you to fill in the address fields, one could
probably vote several times using different names/email-addresses. I've also
cast a few votes for SNZ's "Suits Are Picking Up The Bill"...

Vote early, vote often... the deadline is September 27th!

Cheers,
~MWood
