I have a story about that little phone ringing in SLNIT. While I was
still 15 and under the influence of my learner's permit, my very excitable
mother was letting me drive home to Richmond, VA, from Greensboro, NC. I
had WAEA on the radio. Naturally, the soothing sounds of Selfless, Cold,
and Composed and Brick lulled her to sleep. When it got to SLNIT, she was
fast asleep, that is until the phone started ringing and I started jerking
the car all over I-85 attempting to locate the cell phone. Naturally, my
mom woke up, and slightly reduced my learning experience at the wheel.

I have just recently gotten into trading CDRS. The only BF5 stuff I have is
the Domo Ben Chan Desu cds and of course all of the b-sides. I also have a
Beck bootleg cd, several Beastie Boys, and several Faith No More. If anyone
is interested please e-mail me. I also have a huge audio cassette collection.

Subject: Justified "Bad Stuff"

A fan is someone who loves a band. Therefore, wouldn't you want the band to
make as much money as possible? Yes, of course, now would you want someone
who probably just knows of the band to make money too? I hope not, but it
seems that some people are more eager to find as much music as possible by
that band...even if it's the same thing as they could get without spending
$50. Why would you do that? It's stupidity, to pay $50 for something they
could get for the cost of blank media and postage, plus by trading for it
you aren't allowing that person to take advantage of the band. If you want
to pay for it that's fine that you'd prefer to condone this exploitation of
Ben Folds' music, but I'd rather not partake in it. Therefore...I'm not
calling you less of a fan for buying these...I'm merely pointing out that
someone who cares that much for the band should have more respect for their
music and who is making money from it.

Regarding "The Beginnings" cd, I find it hard to believe that you can
justify spending $10 on 2 CD-Rs (oh wait...you get a cd inlay too :) ). The
CD-Rs themselves, which includes the jewel case (contrary to a few people's
belief) typically cost $2.00 at most (usually less)...so that makes
$4...plus another $1.50 postage...so that would make about a total of $5.50
and he pockets $4.50 (or is that $4.50 worth of paper?). If you guys are
using a different type of math then I am, I'd like to hear it. But for me,
it doesn't cost $10.00 to copy and send 2 CD-Rs, even with a color inlay.

Finally, regarding "Charlene"'s poignant argument saying that it's ok to
bootleg BFF because the band allows it is totally out of line. If you'll
read carefully, Ben Folds Five allows taping as long as it is traded, or
for personal use, and is not sold. But disregarding that, it's illegal no
matter who the band is to sell live recordings. So, I think that you should
look at your statement "...bootlegs aren't ripping off Ben Folds Five
because they allow it." a little bit closer because it is completely
false...trading is the only way to go, when it comes to live recordings.

Thanks again for reading,
Doron

For those of ya'll who aren't on the Official Site's mailling list, you
can now ask the band questions at:

      http://www.epiccenter.com/EpicCenter/Benfoldsite/askme.html

I think that is so great! Also here's what else the message had to say:

> Finishing touches are being put on the as yet untitled new
> album from Ben Folds Five. If you are a reader of Spin, you
> may have picked up on such song titles as "Narcolepsy" and
> "Break Up at Food Court." Here’s another one for ya, "Army."

Hey All!

I, as are a lot of people so it seems, am one of those people either to
scared (for fear of being screamed at!) or lazy to post...

Although I have been getting armchair for a couple of months I have
waited til now to add my bit. I couldn't resist when I saw that I was
not the only one jumping for that phone in SLNIT -- then hearing
Robert's laugh after that...as if he's laughing at me...or something...

Ok, and I don't know if I speak for a lot of Aussies on the list or
what, but is One Amazing Night avail. here? I remember asking a few
weeks ago at a few stores, but no one had ever heard of it. I guess
I'll just have to keep looking, and listening to my downloaded version
of Raindrops...

non-bentent...please don't ream me but i'm desperate

can anyone do anything to try to get me tickets to conan (5 tix for
feb.16)...i tried calling to reserve but they're booked and i'm only going in
town for the day so the stand-by ticket deal is so impractical that it's
impossible (my friend has his NYU audition at 10 am and the tix go on sale at
9!) please! this is probably futile but i'm desperate!

i love ben folds five (does that make this post better?)

Ben Folds Five Fields Fan Queries
                            While Working On New Album
               Ben Folds

If you want to know what's up with the
next Ben Folds Five album, all you
                            have to do is ask.

The band is currently fielding questions
from fans via its website (at
                            www.bffweb.com), and promises to
address at least a few of them on site.
The band notes that it is open to
                            questions about "anything," and hints
that fans who see their queries
answered may even get a little
                            something extra.

BFF are still working on their
                            as-yet-untitled fourth album, which
should arrive this year. The band has
been working in studios in Los Angeles
and New York, and should be
wrapped up soon as the band's official
website reports that the group is
                            putting "finishing touches" on the
                            record.

The album will be the band' anticipated
                            follow-up to its 1997 breakthrough
                            collection "Whatever & Ever Amen."
The group's website notes that song
titles like "Narcolepsy," "Break Up At
Food Court," and "Army" are being
kicked around for the new album.
