Hey everyone-
(sorry if this has been posted already...) heres was ubl had to say:
If you enjoyed the catchy pop tunes bolstered by slammin' piano, horns and
sardonic songwriting of Ben Folds Five's last album, hold onto your hat
because things just got even better. This time around the guys are wittier,
pound on the keys harder, blow their horns more often, and even introduce
some strings. What's more, they toss in spacey electronics tinged with rap
("Your Redneck Past"), a rambling song about "Regrets" that throws in bongos,
a jazzy ballad about "Jane," and the epic struggle for individuality within a
consuming relationship ("Don't Change Your Plans For Me"). Dig it.

ohhhhhh yeahhhh ( =

>liked and respected them you would want to see them huge... "we all
>know what happened last year with brick"!?!?!? what kind of shit is
>that?!?!?! its too bad it wasnt a BIGGER hit! did the beatles not
>play "i wanna hold your hand" because it was popular? hell no... the
>fact is that "brick" is a good song and there should be no shame in
>having a hit record... your comments were selfish and stupid, and
>people like you shouldnt be on this list. suck a honey badger's ass.

um, can anyone say hypocrisy? you tell him not to be a dick then go
off on him like that? there are more civilized ways of disagreeing
with someone. and i hate to see this happen, you know what happenned
last year w/ brick? all this stupid armchair fighting that's what.
and i hope that we can ALL try not to be bitter/angry/immature and TRY
to at least be "nice", do unto others and all that load.
you know i can sympathize w/ both of you, everyone wants to think at
least in part that bf5 is THEIRS at least in part, just because we
love them so much, and along w/ that love we imagine we have certain
rights that we really don't, like i don't know, a personal
relationship with the band, gauranteed concert tickets, things like
that, and i know that's unrealistic AND selfish, but i think what sean
was trying to convey was that he daydreams about things too, and it
does not mean he wishes ill for bf5, it just means he's thinking about
what could make him happy. i mean geez, it's not like he's sabotaging
them or anything, it's just how he feels. and i also sympathize with
your not-so-eloquently stated feelings, because yes, we ALL want bf5
to be successful and to keep making wonderful music. lets just not
get mad at each other.
on a completely separate note, i just heard army, and it makes me mad
because i won't get the single fo rlike another week, due to my own
stupidity. and it drives me insane how all my friendsa re like "yeah
i've heard it", and i'm like driven to tears at how beautiful it is.
i don't konw. they all think i'm psycho. :-)

Just something for everyone to ponder...i think we should all take
time off and realize how much Ben Folds Five has become a very popular
band...a lot of us on the list were fans since "the beginning" (circa
1994-1996) and we were a rare bunch...we stuck together with them when they
were struggling and very underground and for me, to watch something amazing
like there rise to fame occur...I just gotta say congratulations guys, and
thanks for letting us watch.
Notice I say us, never me, I know I am not the biggest fan, I am just
talking about everyone so don't get mad at me and if you have a problem,
e-mail me privately.

When they toured with the string section the whole last half hour of the
show was played without a break, with all of the songs linked together by
the string section.

Is it perhaps possible that if there aren't any real fans then the band
will stop playing real music and therefore stop being a real band?

Stop stressing and listen to the music.

Hey everyone,

My audio server is now back online (thanks to Heather), with over 50 songs
available to download, and more planned soon. Take a look:

http://www.benfoldsfive.freeserve.co.uk

I've had a lot of people saying the .zip files are corrupt, so please read
the small print: these are not .zip files, and cannot be unzipped. Simply
change the file extension from .zip to .mp3 and they will work fine.

Don't forget - BFF on TFI Friday tomorrow night. Check out my site for
details. I'm going to make an .mp3 of the performance, so check out my site
in a day or two and it'll be up.

Will.

Regarding the "mythical gig" at Sound Republic....it seems that the boys
were definitely playing somewhere in london last night. One of the less
irritating DJs said that they played a set "for the fanbase" and industry
guys. Seemed to go down pretty damn well, but I'd love to know who the
blessed members of "the fanbase" are!!

BTW...no, they didn't play Army on the radio!
Andy.

Yes, I bring up a sore sore subject with the issue of popularity, mostly
my not wanting them to be extremely popular. It's sensitive, touchy,
blah blah blah, but it's there. Like it or not, there are plenty of us
who are not in the mood to have to spend hours on the phone fighting
busy signals just to get through to ticketmaster to see them. There are
plenty of us who want to see BFF ticket prices remain at less than $20 a
pop. There are plenty of us who want to feel like we're in on something
not many other people are. I'm a huge fan of DMB, and have been for a
while now. DMB just sold out Giants stadium in 1 hour, and the second
show they added should be sold out within a few weeks. So yes, I'm
afraid I'm guilty of preferring to see BFF in a club, 10 feet away from
the man who writes the songs I love so much. I'm guilty of wanting to
be able to wait around after the show and get to meet the band, ask them
stupid stuff about the concert, and get my Darren Jessee drumstick and
new BFF CD signed. That is selfish, I apologize, but it is my own
opinion and last I checked opinions were still allowed on this list, and
Garrett, I'm afraid you're not the one who decides who belongs here and
who doesn't. Now, as for the "real fans" debate, I honestly didn't
intend to bring that up again. I wrote it in passing without thinking,
and it's not what I meant. What I meant I hope was explained by my DMB
comparison. I welcome your -opinions- on this matter,

sean

Chris Moyles from Radio 1 (UK national radio station) mentioned
that he saw them at a secret concert Wednesday night. He mentioned
the new albums out soon and fantastic. I think he mentioned that
theres another (not so) secret gig coming up soon. It might be press
only, I don't know.

Chris originally plugged brick when it was a single so maybe if
BF5 release a ballad he might have it as record of the week ?

I doubt I'll be hearing Army on UK Radio but at least their on TFI
Tommorow. Just hope TFI don't screw up the sound again !

<<<Just a quick question for any of the insiders out there. Does anyone
know if the version of Dr. Pyser on the UK CD single 1 is a studio
version, or another live version? I'm assuming it's going to be a
studio version, because I remember a while back the guys had said
some things about it being on the new album. Since it's not,
hopefully they recorded it and wanted to release it anyway. It's
something I'm really excited to hear. Thanks for any info!

Mike>>>

If it is a studio version, does anyone in rhode island know where I could get
this single (like if in your ear or something might have it). If you do
thanx, i've been wanting a studio of that song for a while, and mike, if it
isn't, they performed that song on KCRW performance (i think the latest one)
with strings, this is studio, but not the same sound an album recording would
have, obviously.
