Hey Lauren,
In 1997, right before the release of WE&EA, BFF were in New Orleans to play a
showcase at the Gavin Convention, which is a convention for people in the
music industry. The show was free and open to the public, but it wasn't
publicized until like the night of the show, so it was about 80% record
people and 20% plain ol' fans.

At first, the scene was just like you described, the record people were
standing in the back in a cluster, trying to act all serious, so I managed to
get a good spot right up front. After the first 3 or 4 songs, BFF had
everyone including all of the record people dancing and getting into the
show. By the time Ben got to the stool throwing, the radio people were fully
converted and were cheering him on. Maybe it was their performance at this
show that won the radio programmers over and led to the success of WE&A :)

(By the way, this was the best night ever...free BFF show in an intimate
setting, free food and drink, AND got to meet and talk to Robert, Ben and
Darren before and after the show. Special highlights: seeing Darren packing
his OWN drums out of the club, Robert's total amazement that I knew who he
was and wanted his autograph, and my own amazement at walking into the club
and the very first person I lay eyes on is Ben, talking on a pay phone right
by the door. To think that I would not have even known about the show if it
weren't for Frank's website! Thanks a million, Frank!!!)

Hey,

I have a poster that is 60"x(about) 42.5 inches long, its a WEAEA promo..
huge. its got the plaid background with the three pictures of the boys in the
orangy grain.. anyway, i'm interested in trading (TRADING) this for
somethin'.. here is a quick list of what i'm interested in getting:

1-29-96 Madison, WI 5-3-97 Midtown musicfest
6-30-96 Rockford, IL 6-28-97 Copenhagen, denmark
7-25-97 Noblesville, IN 7-3-98 Belgium, Werchter fest
8-9-97 Massachusetts 3-13-97 The Ritz
and some festival show that took place in KS in 98.. i know its out there
soomewhere...

also, any other shows not listed at my site. as always, i'm lookin for an
original copy of the pottymouth video, an orange kate single, or anything
else interesting..

a question - on ebay, there is a "spare reels" promo video.. anybody have a
clue what that's about?

i'm definitely interested in trading for shows again.. i'd gotten to be
really bored with it ( some of you had figured that out ) but now that
there's some new stuff coming up i'm trying to get back into the swing of
things..

my friend elicia hates ben folds five, she slams them everytime she gets a
chance - she says that they are "such blatant ripoffs of the beatles"
i think she looks a lot like a horse
what am i supposed to say to her?? are there any brilliant music experts out
there that can help me? i need to say something to shut her up.. and "shut
up" doesn't really work anymore. even though i consider myself to be a pretty
intelligent listener, i really can't hear much that the two bands have in
common.

who else is headed for the chicago show?
i'm excited (and so is leigh) about F&J opening this time around

whew.. this ended up being longer than it was supposed to be.

leigh felten, please email me.. also, if there is a girl named heidi on the
list, i think her email might be "cavernoftreasure@prodigy.com" (but not
totally sure..) pls email me, i keep on getting bounced messages. i owe you
both B&Ps that are way overdue - i'll make up for that.

doron too.
Thanks - sorry to take up so much space
ALSO. my favorite band, my ABSOLUTE favorite band (sorry) PAIN is touring the
west coast right now. i think they're going to be around california soon.
here are a few of the specific dates -
13 Hollywood Alley. Mesa, AZ
21 Coconut Teaszer. Los Angeles, CA
22 Koo's Cafe. Santa Ana, CA (all-ages)
23 Club Extreme. Placerville, CA (all-ages) (T)
24 Fish Bowl. Sunnyvale, CA (all-ages)
25 Chain Reaction. Anaheim, CA (all-ages)
they're playing some other shows in and around CA and the west coast all
throughout april, so keep an eye out for them or visit their website at
http://www.indieweb.com/pain
There are more than a couple of people around here who can vouch for their
talent. They are some of the nicest people in the world. PLEASE go see them
if you can .. they're going to be in alabama / atlanta and N/S carolinas in
may.. if you wanna, drop me an email for specific dates.. again i apologize
for the lengthy-ass post .. but don't worry, my posts are few and far between
(lucky you) -

sweaty lovin' forever -

Hi everybody!

Anybody out there who has got a spare copy of BFFs new Promo CD "Truth
and Rumours with Ben Folds Five"?

I have got tons of stuff to trade on my webpage (early demos, Majosha
stuff, 150+ Live shows) and can also do CD-Rs.

http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/SDonath

So if you are the man (or woman), let me know so we can arrange a trade.

Steffen

So, who do you wanna be? Billy Idol or Kool Moe D.?

Good Morning ( well here and now it is kinda early),

I talked to a few people at record stores and they have zero promotional
TUBORM stuff to give out ( cds, the interview cd), b/c it all goes to
employees. Does anyone know of a place that I can write to? Also, with the
new album coming out there was some mention of some sort of an extra cd that
comes with it?????? I could be totally wrong, but is that the Truth and
Rumors CD?

Good Day,

Hey fellow armchairites! For those of you who love hearing about what the five does
live, I have been sprucing up the BFF Live Show Review Archive, the site I ran during
the last tour. Unlike the current incarnation, the new site will be automated and
will post your review instantaneously, and will let other viewers know if the reviewer
has a tape to trade from the show! I'm not ready to go public with the URL yet, but
it should be up in a few more days, definitely before the April 16th kickoff show.

Looking forward to the tour,
In BFFandom,
Patrick from Winston-Salem

Hey everyone. I just picked up a copy of the May CMJ with the article about
our boys, and noticed Darren's name spelled differently throughout the whole
article. It's spelled "Darrin" instead of "Darren." Now I'm confused about
which is the right way. Did CMJ just screw up? I was just curious....

I'll see everyone in Chicago in 23 days!
