Hi fellow fivers,
I MUST GET INTO THE SPRINGFIELD SHOW ON SATURDAY!! IF ANYBODY HAS ANY
DETAILS, INCLUDING COST, TIME, AND I CAN GET IN PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE EMAIL
ME!!!

I saw the boys last saturday at Amherst and it was wonderful. Narcolepsy
was so good, i don't even know how to describe it. Spiritual? Yes, I
think it was practically a spiritual experience. There have been enough
reviews on the Amherst show so I won't go on...

I get to see them 4 more times in the next two weeks (if I can get in to
Springfield, that is)! Also, URI, Tufts, and NYC on the 27th with the
Zippers and strings! I will be in NYC the day that they tape for Letterman.
Does anyone know how I can get into the Letterman taping?

I think that the concert they are doing for the Kosovo refugees is great, I
just wish I had a way to get to North Carolina.

That's enough for now,
Jody

Well, it's been a very long time since I last read an Armchair, and I
have to say that the list has matured excellently into a really great
forum! The dedication to BFF is still really great and despite a lot
more posing and posturing, is a far cry from the riot of
teeny-bopper-bashers and brick-throwers that it used to be!
Anyway, I'd just like to comment on how absolutley amazing it is for BFF
to chart at 28 with absolutely no airplay (except TFI appearance, thank
Chris Evans, whatever he's done in the past) in the UK charts. Now that
is an achievement! I must say though, after hearing Army for the first
time I was pretty convinced that it wouldn't win fans among radio
programmers and controllers-anybody else feel the same?
Seeya people,
Anthony
P.s. anybody got a spare ticket for the London Forum show? It was sold
out before I found out about it-major bummer. Anyway, if anybody could
help me out, I would really appreciate it a lot!

Subject: TLA Show!!!!!!

WOW!!! That's all I can say. This was my first BFF show and I'd
never seen anything so great, WOW!!! Well, as for a summerization it was
almost exactly how drummerAR described the Franklin and Marshall shows so I
won't explain much about what they played just on how they played it.
Flemming and John played and I thought they were really good, little
did I know they were about to be blown out of the water by Ben's playing, in
my opinion. I like Flemmings leather pants and obviously a few other fans
did because they were yelling it out in the middle of the show. I really
liked their songs though, and if I wasn't a poor bastard I would've bought
their CD.
As for Ben Folds it was amazing!!! The lighting, which not much have
commented on, was soooo good exspecially for Don't Change Your Plans and
everyother song. They all had some kind of lighting program for them and it
was awesome. Tell me if this was just the TLA or was the lighting all cool
and misty like for the other shows. As for any differences between this and
the Franklin and Marshall show, in Steven's Last Night In Town, Robert
started singing "We Got the Beat" by the Go Go's and it was awesome. But
they never really caried the cover. In the encore Ben played Song For the
Dumped as long as a song "lullabye" or "good night" but in SFD Robert was
using this really pscadelic instrament that made all these weird techno
sounds. It was really cool, reply saying if he used this in the other shows,
cause I thought it was amazing. It was a little ball attached to somekind of
small base and when he put his hands over it it made weird sounds.
I really liked the songs off the new CD I thought they were a great
contrast to all the heavy songs they were playing off the older CDs not to
say that Narcolepsy wasn't heavy. UH . . . . know that I've wore myself out
I think I'll stop talking and see what others say about the show. If anyone
has a set-list can they post it for me, or just e-mail it directly to me.

P.S. I dunno if Ben did this at the Franklin and Marshall show but at the
end of Song For The Dumped he got up on the other piano and slammed his stool
down and broke it, I've heard refrences to him doing this in other concerts
but I'd never seen it so I was psyched.

Well the show was awesome, and I had a wonderful brush with greatness...

So this show was overrun with teeny-boppers. Not that it is bad to be a =
teen, but it was a bit annoying. The boys must have thought so too, =
because they weren't coming out after I had waited a while.

So then I decide to go behind the TLA to see if they are having a smoke =
out back, and lo and behold, more kids sitting there waiting. Just then =
a bouncer came out and said that they should all go back to the front, =
b/c they would be signing autographs.

I thought to myself, forget that! I kept on walking (since my car was =
in that direction, I had an excuse). And as I walk by, I see Ben inside =
with his glasses on. (Such a handsome guy). So I said "You didn't play =
'Lullabye'", to which he said, "Sorry" with a little grin. I said =
"That's alright, It was a really great show" and he responded - "Hey, =
thanks!". =20

I was about 20 or so feet from him, and I really wanted a picture, but I =
couldn't bring myself to bug him any more than I had already. I'll just =
have to keep the memory. It was very very cool.

Go ahead, you can laugh all you want. I've got my philosophy,

"Army" is being played like mad on KWOD 106.5 out of Sacramento here in
Northern California. And I'm as excited as hell. Yes, give the boys more
money, more fans, more publicity, bigger venues! I sense that this is their
masterpiece, and it could all end here, so I hope they milk the hell out of
it. God bless Ben Folds Five.

Subject: TLA show 2 review!

Well hot damn. Ben Folds Five will do it to me every time. Here I went
complaining about how the first TLA show wasn't quite up to snuff, so they
came back for a second night and just totally blew me away!

I had a great spot tonight, front row on the railing right between Darren
and Robert. There were even some cute girls behind me, which always makes a
good show better. :-)

They played Jane for the first time this tour, and although I had heard it
at the sound check at Amherst, I was really really excited that they played
it. When I first heard Messner, it wasn't one of my faves but it has since
won me over. Ben was taking requests tonight, so we were blessed with Eddie
Walker and Uncle Walter in addition to the standard set they have played so
far this tour. Ben even asked Darren and Rob, "Pyser?" after Uncle Walter,
but they just went into Song For The Dumped. Oh well, it rocked anyway.

So, what was the best part of the show? For me, there's no question. At
the beginning of Underground, this group of fans over near Ben kept yelling
something unintelligible over and over again. So Ben held the mike out for
them to sing the next line, which at that point was "But I love to mix in
circles, cliques, and social coteries..." They ended up singing the wrong
line, though, but after some coaching from Ben they got it. Then Darren
added his, "Hand me my nose ring," which of course was followed by the full,
"Can we be happy?" Here's where it got fun.

Robert looked down and handed me the mike. He asked my name (I swear, the
guy NEVER remembers me) and he said, "Leigh here is gonna sing the next
line." So I took the mike and did the best damn "Show me the mosh pit,
brother man!" I could. Hell yeah! What a guy that Robert is. He even gave
me a high five on his way off the stage after One Angry Dwarf.

So yeah, this show was right up with Amherst as the best on the tour so far.
Given, there was no Last Polka, but with Eddie Walker AND Uncle Walter it
was a real winner. The crowd was great, although I couldn't really see too
many people since everyone was behind me. Ah, that reminds me--props to
Lindsay, Brett, Melissa, Becky, Daniela, and Jessica for being damn good
concert partners.

Fleming & John were excellent once again. They got a full 10-song set and
really won over the crowd. It's great to see them getting some of the
respect they deserve.

Damn, I said "damn" a lot in this review.

See y'all in Rhode Island...

There's an article (an interview with Ben) in dB magazine
(21 april - 4 may, issue 194) on page 10. AND... (if anyone's
interested) there's a Ben Lee one on page 10! Yay! BTW,
dB magazine is free and you can get it from music shops in
Adelaide (I got it from the little cd shop in Mitcham shopping
centre). I don't know if you can get it in any states other than
SA. There was a black and white picture but it was a bit pale...
I'll scan it up onto my site soon anyway. And about the
Reinhold thing...
- ---"So, about the first interview we did for this album, the guy
was well researched and he said, "That's interesting. Why did
you use the name Reinhold Messner?" and then he told us who
he was. So we had to get in touch with him and ask if we could
use the name," he laughs at the memory.---
...there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth. I guess that
doesn't neccesarily mean it's true, though, does it? It's a good
article so I might put it on my site sometime. Speaking of which,
I've added the Advertiser picture to the Pics page, and also the 6
pages of japanese writing from the Jap Imort S/T. I'd be very
grateful if someone could translate them for me, but I asked some
Japanese exchange students at my school about the page that's
been handwritten (by the band?) and they said it would be very hard
to translate... they also giggled at it! But they giggle at lots of
stuff :) .

Another rocking night at the TLA in Philly. The best part was the encore
which Ben changed around...he did Eddie Walker, Uncle Walter and then of
course SFTD. Also, he played Jane for the first time ever live (in place
of Fair). What a night! I'm just waiting for next Tuesday now.

Hey 'chairers,

Anyone that found that mp3s downloaded from my site sounded 'gurgled' should
download the latest version of Winamp (v2.10) from http://www.winamp.com and
this will fix the problem. Thanks to everyone who brought this to my
attention.

If you missed my post a few days back, all the b-sides from the UK Army
single are now on my site. Go get 'em.

See ya,

All I have to say about pyser is that it is one of the best songs that I
have seen them do in concert. Especially when it gets to the middle "pulp
fiction" type part.

Just wonderin' if anybody else was going to the Koncert for Kosovo in
Charlotte, North Carolina May 28. I've got great seats (row 2, middle), and
I was just wondern' if I'd see anybody there. If anybody is planning to
tape this PLEASE let me know. I would love a boot of it.

Btw...since so far nobody has mentioned the irony of the cardboard crowd
surfer in the army video, I thought I would. That's got to be my favorite part.

By the way DrummerAr, that was a great post! It makes me more ecstatic
about seeing them again.
