hey armchair people...

here we go... a review of the American University show on Friday,
April 23.

what can i say other than amazing as always. the guys seemed to
really be into the new stuff, and they even hit some of the old
favorites as well. what i found REALLY incredible was the new
lighting. i talked with doug for a long while, and he told me that
they finally decided to get a full time lighting guy for the band.
for any of you going to a show soon, the lighting on narcolepsy and
magic is absolutely phenomenal. the two funniest highlights of the
show came when: 1) ben did an improv song about the security guards,
and 2) after playing army, robert walked over to ben and said, "dude,
i really gotta take a piss." and so he did. robert had to leave the
stage to pee. ben, while robert was gone, decided to make a song out
of it. when robert returned, he joined in on the "robert has to take
a leak" song. very funny.

fleming and john are fantastic for any of you who are lucky enough to
see the guys on this tour. and i'm sure anyone who has seen fleming
and john already would agree with me.

lots of new t-shirts are out for purchase, for anyone who is into
wearing t-shirts of the band. i love the andy warhol-ish shirt.

all in all, another great show for the boys (except when ben forgot
the lyrics to "battle"). i can't wait to see them later this summer.
here's the setlist:

narcolepsy--battle--philosophy--mess--steven's--event staff song--
don't change your plans--magic--hospital song--army--robert takes a
leak--underground--your redneck past--fair--jane--angry dwarf
encore: lullabye--emaline--song for the dumped

magically yours,
the Brad song

i knew you'd be gone as soon as you could

For the first time ever- at least to my knowledge- Army was played on the
radio in Florida. I heard it for the first time- not counting Real Audio- on
106.7 in Orlando. How awesoem is that?? After listening to everyone else
rave about the song I FINALLY get to hear what you all are talking about!
I'm so happy! hehe

Hi all~

Haven't posted in quite some time, but I figured I'd make this post a happy
one for some lucky individual who needs a ticket for the May 3 show in
Chi-town. Here's the deal: the ticket costed $23 and I'm not accepting any
more $ than that. So...if you want the ticket, contact me and we'll chat!

The trio are on the radio in Champaign, Illinois!! I usually never listen
to the radio here, but for some reason (fate, I think) I switched on the
alternative station, and they said that they were interviewing them
tonight! I totally didn't think that they played their stuff, but I guess
I was wrong. I think that army may have even been number 3 on their
countdown of the day, but I missed it, so I'm not sure. So anyway, I'm in
the process of taping the interview right now, and I guess if it turns out
well, I can offer to trade it with people who want to hear it. I'll post
again if it sounds tradeable, I really have no idea how long it's going to
be or anything. I just couldn't resist posting right away, I'm so
excited!! Well, time to listen some more...I'll post again soon, so I can
at least quote it if nothing else!!

Mer :)

P.S. They're playing mess now...I can't wait to get the album!!

Ok, I just posted about the interview in Champaign, and I'm confused
because the guy asked almost exactly the same questions that someone
posted regarding a JJJ interview or something. I thought that Ben's
answers sounded really farmiliar too, like someone had posted them before.
Do ya think that they just broadcast what someone said was on the
Australian bonus disc, and stuck the dj's voice in? Maybe it's just a
coincidence. Oh well. I'm still excited. :)

this was posted to the newsgroups, but i figured - hey, why not post it here
too?

ohhhh you can thank me later
really.

Today, it was raining - a lot. I had to drive to work in the rain, i had to
sit
at work in the rain, i had to drive home in the rain ( you get the picture )..

i had been putting off getting an early copy of it for as long as possible.
maybe it was because i was just too lazy to get out there and try and find
one.
i didn't want to pay some outrageous amount of money for it on ebay and wasn't
interested in getting a tape copy... nope, if i wanted it, i was going to get
the real thing. so i waited for it.

i couldn't wait any longer

I headed over to "pop tunes" - memphis' local version of "overpriced CD
kingdom" ...( i hated to buy from there but i knew that they had it) ... and
bugged a few boys over there. they finally let me have it. they were all
311lovin testosterone boys - *you know the type* and were highly amused at my
bargaining tactics ("really, I DON'T NEED MY LIVER. TAKE IT").

FINALLY - i had it. i was disappointed in myself because i'd given in to
temptation. but hey, i was only a day early. could have been worse.

a few minutes later i was almost home, in the middle of "don't change your
plans", and absolutely bawling my eyes out. it reminded me so much of things
going on in my life - and how ben folds five had always seemed to fit so
perfectly with me. as they grow and mature musically, so do i. so do we all, i
hope. every single note ben has played - from the very first chord of jackson
cannery to the very last of lullaby - has been echoed in my own life, many
times over. i thank them so very much for the beauty they bring to me every
single day.

oh yeah, i have cool NEW (brand new, as in a few days ago new) tapes coming
in soon!

sniff sniff,

Celine

Hey, Kell here.

Just reminding y'all that the Five will be on Late Show with David
Letterman on Wednesday (well, it's actually Thursday by then). It's the
first TV appearance since the album is officially released! Don't miss it!

PS...My good friend Paul from NC just informed me today that one of his
friends went to high school with Ben...AAAAAK! He looked at me funny while
I was freaking out. Shame on him.

UK VH1 BEN FOLDS FIVE - UNCUT THURSDAY 29th MAY 11pm - 12pm.

They had adverts on Monday night and I keep catching the end of it
and their playing battle. I guess they must have recorded it when
they came over a couple of weeks ago.

I bought TUBORM yesterday with NO BONUS. Japan gets it a month
early, the Aussies get a bonus CD, the USA get a bonus video and the
UK gets ..... nothing!

After the first listen I liked Don't change your plans and
Lullabye. Lullabye sounds like a bluesy gospel song and I think it's
a really cool way to end the album. After a 2nd & 3rd listen I'm
getting into Narcolepsy. I'm slowly getting into the others and I've
got army on single so I already liked that.

I think TUBORM is good but to me it's no WAEA.

Del.

hi armchair
i was listening to magic, and it really reminds me of one of the
charlie trilogy by the whitlams. i can't remember which one, i always
get them mixed up anyway, but did anyone else think so? just the
first few chords sound the same or something. and i wish darren was
singing it too.
also, anyone who can't buy it, you can listen to triple J and
probably tape the whole thing: it's their feature album this week.
You can also listen to jjj through the net, at
http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/ and you'll be guaranteed to hear a
tuborm song if you listen for a little while.
tavia (i think) commented on getting teary eyed during jane, well,
that hit me too. i was on the train coming back from buying it, and i
was sort of sitting there thinking 'i can't cry cause everyone will
look at me funny'. now i NEVER cry, haven't in almost 4 years, so
that's a pretty damn major thing for me to get even near crying, let
alone watery eyes. but something about that song really gets me, i
think it's maybe just an easy thing to relate to, everyone feels that
way sometimes. maybe i'm just rambling and i should go now.

Anyone remember when song titles from the new one were first being
revealed, and one was "Breakup at the Food Court". Anyone know what
happened to this one, did it not make the cut, or was the title changed to
reflect the more 'mature' nature of the album? maybe it will show up as a
B-side somehwere down the line....

Ok, the more I listen to this so-called interview I was talking about, the
more I am convinced that it's fake. I think it was just the interview off
the bonus CD and they dubbed the interviewer's voice over it. So now I
have a nice copy of a fake interview. I'm a little perturbed! It
wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't kept saying that they had BFF "in
the studio". Oh well. Sorry about all my complaining. At least I have
some of the stuff off of TUBORM to listen to now, since I may not be
getting it for a couple of days.

Hope everyone enjoys the new CD!
