hi kids,
i was walking past the tv in my dorm and i heard magic! i thought i left
my stereo on, but then i saw that it was on during dawson's creek! i think
that show is pretty lame, but that was kind of neat. it was on during a
funeral scene. i wonder if the people who chose the song picked it because
it's about death or if it was just a coincidence. also, they edited it so
that the piano part just continued instead of going to the timpanis. ok,
that's all for now.

Magic's playing on Dawson's Creek right now. Yes, I like the show.
Yes, I love the song. Incredible placement of the song, too (during a
funeral).

i don't know if this has come up yet, but as i sit here and watch the new
episode of dawsons creek, i hear ben in back, singing magic. i'm not sure
what this means... it could be good, it could be bad. but it's some
serious exposure to the teenagers of the world. i just hope it's not
another wave of teeny bopper enthusiasm, and that i won't get approached
when i wear my ben shirt, to hear some little blonde hair girl chime out,
"are those the guys that sing that song... MAAAAAAAGGIIICCCC"....

who knows?

AHHHH!!!!! okay, i hardly ever watch Dawson's Creek b/c it's not really very
good, but i was just watching tonight and in the funeral scene, they were
playing Magic, my favorite song, in the background...at the part where he
sings "stars in your eyes, free from the life, that you knew" which are a
couple of the lines i love the best!!!!!!! okay just thought i would share
that with all you! bye

I was sitting in my room studying for finals a few minutes ago and all of a
sudden, I heard the song "Magic," being played. I opened the door only to
discover that it was being played on DAWSON'S CREEK. Well, I'm not all
that fond of the show but I'm fucking glad that the boys are getting the
exposure that they well-deserve!

When they were at Abby's funeral on Dawson's Creek this week, they played
MAGIC!! They played almost the whole thing! WOW!!
I guess it makes sense, cause its about dead people, and it was Abby's funeral

I almost had a heart attack when I heard those first few piano chords!

Then at the end they didn't even give our boys Credits!!
that really pisses me off!!

1) how can you say "redneck past" is a weak or bad song? it makes me
think you're not very musically aware, and it's obvious from the rest of
your post that you are. so i'm bewildered. i personally find it very
catchy and fun....no, it's not deep, but it's a great song :)
2) ummm... "army" BOMBED as a single? when was it released in england? it
was on mtv for the first time a couple of weeks ago. i finally started
hearing it on the radio here. what makes you think it bombed?
3) chic-fil-a is a restaurant, fast food. someone probably answered this
already.
4) ditto for this one but 'redneck' is a sometimes-friendly, usually-not
term for someone from the south, whose back of his neck is sunburned,
hence redneck. usually racists, 'good ol' boys' and otherwise not very
pleasant or smart folk :)

hey kids,

long time subscriber, first post.
it just occured to me to offer some thoughts to the 'ol chair about the new
album (as many of us have done in the past couple issues)

nothing big, i just totally love this album to pieces.
"mess" is quite possibly my fave, the rhythm is real catchy.
all the tunes are exactly what was i hoping to hear from the boys, its great
to listen to the "old stuff" and TUBORM and just think about how their sound
has evolved and matured. I can't talk it up enough guys, i'm sure y'all know
what I'm feeling.

plus, i have long been hoping "mr.ben" would take a seat behind an organ or
Fender Rhodes, so to hear just that on "jane" made me happy as a clam.

come to pittsburgh soon, fellas.

Hey Kyle, that would be cool. I was thinking that cinco de mayo would be a

tea shirts sounds like a nice idea. I often get thisting when walking, so a

okey the armchair has gone nothing but downhill in the last few weeks, i have
posted like twice in my life and no one really seems to care, but lately the
quality of armchair has gotten bad, not only do i not give a shit that ben
isnt coming to your town, hes' not coming tot he detroit area either, but
life goes on, i would love to see him again, but you have to realize that
nonstop posting about how much you want him to come to seattle wont really
change a thing, and i really hope no one goes out and makes toothbrush
braclets, please dont, that just makes me sick to my stomach thinking of
eighth grade all over again, and if ben's happy with frolly, why dont we
leave them be, because it is his life and he does have the right to be happy,
and i know i am gonna get a million hate mails but i really dont care at this
point, the armchair isnt what it used to be, and thats really sad

Subject: Link Interview

There is a short article about the band in the new Link Magazine. It has a
couple of pictures of Ben and Robert (what, no Darren?). It is a short
article, but pretty well done, except they used the phrase 'true dat'.
Ben talks about being comfortable with himself, the record and the NC
scene. For those who don't know, Link is a magazine mass distributed at
colleges, so if you live near a college, go into the student center and
they will be scattered all over the floor. I think they have a website,
just search Link Magazine. For those hardcore collectors out there unable
to get an issue anywhere (I don't think they sell them anywhere), I have a
few copies I'd be willing to send or trade for.

And for me, I don't like the Dave Matthews/Ben duet. I don't think
their styles would blend well. I've always imagined Ben on the piano, John
Flansburgh on guitar and John Linnell on accordion, with Too Slim (Riders
In The Sky are awesome!) slapping the upright bass. That would be an
amazing collaboration, and an incredible, hilarious live show.

To all the fellow collegians, best of luck with finals...

And you know for the encore? Before they played, Ben Folds held
up a picture and said that someone had drawn a portrait of them..
well that person was me!! :) WOO HOO!!!! We were close to the
front by the railings and curtains for backstage, and my sister
leaned over the railing and gave it to Ben as he was going on
stage. That was waaaaay too cool for words to see him holding
that!! :)

Anyways, that's all.

know that in Mess Ben used an upright with "little pieces of
metal between
               the hammers and the strings".

this type of effect has been around for a very long time. i know that sam
phillips (owner of sun records in memphis) stuck tacks in the piano's
hammers to give it a crisper, more metallic sound. this effect is seen alot
