hey all.

after thoroughly listening to "magic" repeatedly I think the sounds are either
a) the sound of Robert moving his hand up and down the strings of the bass
while keeping it muffled
b)The sound of the snares on the drum rattling during certain chords.
(guitarists know what I mean.)
c) The sound of the stringed instruments and timpani getting ready.

It could be any. They all sound pretty similar.

I hate to say this, but I think there's some erroneous info on
benfoldsfive.com about the Phoenix show. According to my ticket, radio ads,
and celebritytheatre.com, the show's at the Celebrity Theatre on June 7th.
Tickets are $29.50 including taxes (kinda pricey compared to the last couple
of times they were here). It's also assigned seating (kinda odd, but...).
Though I wouldn't mind it in the least if they played two nights in Phoenix,
I think the folks in Seattle would have a problem with it...

Whoops!

I was working on the Fremont Fair guide and had to make room for some
large files when I accidentally deleted all my emails from 4/15 to 5/15
or so.

If you emailed me, please resend! I'm so embarrassed! I know there were
lots of emails from Seattle.

Thanks,

Hiya, y'all...

Anyone here had any BFF-styled dreams? I had one just the other
night - imagine the scene! It's a HUGE rock event, and BFF are
headlining. They've just finished playing "Kate" and the crowd are in
absolute fits and scream the place down. Suddenly, Ben tells the
audience to "quieten down" as the threesome play some of their
"weird new stuff". This is followed by the playing of crazy-looking
(and sounding) instruments as BFF suddenly do renditions from
Fear of Pop. Cue the audience screaming in terror and running for
the hills, emptying the rock event and leaving just one solitary
person. I couldn't tell if it was William Shatner or not.. :)

Actually, as dreams go, it definitely means something - I listened
to WAEA for the first time in about two months, and after listening
to TUBORM, I do get the feeling that WAEA kicks its ass in terms
of immediate likeability and the fact it is totally listenable - every
track - as a complete album. There's no need to skip arkward
tracks like Regrets. I dunno - I'm happy they're experimenting, but
sad they've left their WAEA roots. What do other people think
about this..?

Steve ;)~

Subject: Marriage vows!

Ben & Frally are officially married! Oh, it brings a tear to my eye...There's an article on them in The Adelaide Advertiser today (which is Friday) with the sweetest photo I have ever seen of Ben at the wedding - he looks the happiest he has ever been when he's with Frally. I don't have the article with me right now, but it quoted Ben as saying that he had played in a lot of weddings in his time, but this was the best one he had ever been to (everybody saw awww...). Only two people went to the wedding, so I guess you could say that it was a small wedding (der amy, der), the only two people being Frally's brother and sister.
I would love to write more about the article - I was so excited when my Dad pointed it out to me this morning...I was trying to study for my maths test on pointless Modulus graphs and things that I will never need to know in the real world when he said "Oh God, it's that Ben Folds character again...I suppose you'll be wanting this" - see, he keeps popping into Adelaide's papers now that he's living here! So, I probably failed my test today, but it was so very worth it to read the article! If anyone wants it, e-mail me and I'll type it up for you!
Well, I have to be "booking" now...hmm. Is "booking" really a Canadian term for leaving, or was Derek our Canadian exchange student messing with my mind? Any Canadians out there who would like to set me straight?

amy.

p.s. To all of those people I need to email: Hilton, Clare, Jess etc. - those emails are on the way very, very soon. Patience is a virtue as my dear compatriot Madonna says. Oh, no, but to Clare: I didn't get that email sorry, but it might be my computer and not yours - I haven't read any emails for a while and the system is getting clogged with all of the MAs that I never erase...

Ben and Frally were married yesterday in Adelaide! They had a
ceremony at their Hyde Park home then celebrated in a cafe with
a group of friends and relatives. There was a small article in
today's (21/5) Adelaide Advertiser about it and a picture of Ben
and Frally looking extremely happy. Though you can't see much of
them in the photo, Frally's wedding dress looks very nice, and so
does her ring! I've put the picture up on my fourth picture page,

As long as we're trying to figure out sounds on TUBORM, I was wondering if
anyone knew what that distorted voice in the background was saying. They
only say a couple of words right in between the verses.
P.S. when/where are the Riviera tickets going on sale?

Hey all!
I was watching the tube the other day and my friend told me to turn to
channel 4 (yes that means nothing to most of you) and there was a funny clip
of BFF on this Nite Life thing! I was just wondering if anyone else saw it
at some point in time? Darren is talking about the title of the new CD and
then Ben pops up right in front of the camera out of nowhere! It is pretty
funny! Then Robert is feeding the pigeons and they are joking about the
whole "plumber bum" thing...anyway, my stupid VCR cut some of it off and I
didnt get the whole thing but it was funny nonetheless.....
One more thing...has anyone ordered the song book for WEAEA off the
official site? Just wondering because I am considering ordering it for the
piano music. It will cost me an arm and a leg for the exchange rate, but I
think it will be well worth it!! I finally figured out the left hand for
Army when he's saying "Been thinking a lot today" so hopefully they will
bring out a song book for TUBORM so I can see how far off I
am...LOL...anyway, sorry about the lenght of this post...TTFN Stef

<<Also, four more dates have been announced by Jude, the support band, but
not yet confirmed by Ben Folds Five management. They are:
June 20: Washington, DC - Venue TBA
June 21: Pittsburgh, PA - Venue TBA
June 22: Worcester, MA - Venue TBA
     June 23: Providence, RI - Venue TBA>>

Oh, please let it be so. I live right smack between Worcester and
Providence, so this would be perfect. And Jude is opening? Excellent! I
saw Jude opening for Better Than Ezra in Philly at the Troc, and it was a
great set. Friendly tip for all you New Englanders: I just got Jude's
excellent CD, "No One is Really Beautiful" at Newbury Comics for $7.99
earlier this week. I suggest you swing by if possible, as the CD is well
worth the money. I don't know if it's the same price on the webpage, but
everybody not close to a Newbury might want to check www.newbury.com to see
if they have it for cheap, too.

haven't been reading lately, so i don't know if this has been
mentioned, but i was watching the pre-game for the Kincks-Heat game 5
on NBC (don't know how much BFF/NBA cross-over appeal there is out
there) and they were doing a thing on Alonzo Mourning and they were
playing Jane--just the intro over and over and o few other parts where
there's no singing. I don't know where NBC pulled that one from, and I
somehow doubt that it was a personal request by Zo, but it was cool and
I hate Zo and the Heat lost.

Hey fellow Fivers! I just wanted to say how much I love the song "Lullabye".
I'm listening to it now and my computer speakers have really good bass so I
can literally feel Robert playing, it may sound weird but it's true! And
Ben's voice sounds amazing, it sounds really deep, and I just love the way
the clap and just how Ben plays, it's awesome! Ok well, that's all for now.

Fellow listeners of BFF,

Is it just me or is the piano sound on "Messner" very weak in comparison to
the sound on "Whatever.."? I've just noticed a lot of mistakes (like the
tamborine being too loud in "Magic") and other small mixing errors. It
almost sounds like an upright on the majority of the songs. I don't know it
might just be me

I think the sound sounds like when robert does something with the bass (I'll
think he presses the fuzz peddle)(or maybe him moving his finger up the
string down, I don't know, I DON'T PLAY BASS) but it's too loud/mechanical to
be the lifting of the piano

and also, there's a hidden track on Dave Matthews Band (Remember Two Things),
Everclear (So Much For The Afterglow), Offspring (Smash), and Pearl Jam (Ten,
Yield) and that's all I can think of right now.
