I am so sorry about the balank emails this computer is so old it sent them.
oh well i have some good news for y'all, ben folds five were mentioned TWICE
in the July issue of twist. Once is Celeb's most embarrasing moments and it
has robert talking about lord knows exactly what and the other is the Twist
Test, and it has ben answer some questions about b\himself on paper (he has
very messy handwriting :)For instance, when asked for his astro sign, he
answered "asparagus." Pretty funny guy.

Also some more gppd news, I AM SEEING BF5 LIVE IN CONCERT IN ONLY 2DAYS!! I
totally cant wait!

Amanda

PS I might not write or read for a while cause I am kinda banned from AOL, so
it might be a while before i can find another internet connection

Hey! I just have to share my excitement. I got a Ben Folds Five poster!!!!
I'm sure many of you have them already, but I didn't so I'm very very very
happy to have gotten one. I picked it up at Spencer's Gifts so if you're
looking for posters, you might want to check that out. It is the poster that
is available via the website. I was sooooooo excited that I got it. OKay.
I just had to tell someone who could appreciate this! Bye.

okay, "former music critic"--that everyone hated, "and current triangle music
guru"--that everyone still hates. and how is it that someone (ross) who
despises ben folds five so much, gets to "teach" someone from npr about the
triangle scene, anyway? i mean, did he stand up and say, "hey, i'd love to!!"
or what?

when i took over smash hits on WKNC from ross about three years ago, the only
BF5 song he would "approve" of my playing (until i could kick him out
completely) was summer b. why you ask?? because you know that line about Ross
and Frank were holding hands? well, the ross they're referring to IS ross
grady, and he always got a kick out of knowing the song, even though it's not
putting him in a pleasant light, is about him...he's an ass, plain and simple,
and he shouldn't get this kind of publicity. if you ask around town, everyone
will tell you he's certainly not the "guru" all the non-triangle-ites thinks he
is. not to mention he's pushing 30 and shouldn't even be on a college station.

Hello everyone--
yeah-I think he is saying Robert Sledge because ya hear the
audience screaming in the background-sure, that could've been mixed in or
something, but I don't think so. Maybe it was just some kind of a running joke
among the boys-the fact that whenever Rob was announced it sounded a lot like
'rubber sled'. I don't know, but I did notice that when I first got the
album.Oh wait-now that I think about it-he HAS to be saying Robert Sledge
because the announcer quickly says "...on bass guitar,Robert Sledge!!!" maybe
it's switched around. I don't know.Well,bye bye armchair babies.Love you
all...can't wait for the Providence show!!! woohoo!

something like "i'm glad i brought my just video by radiohead but i wish i
had a vcr" and then he swatted some flys. anyway, i just saw that so i
thought i'd let y'all know about it.

As i was reading the Sunday paper this afternoon, i had MTV on in the
background and they were doing a show about "what videos would you want
with you if you wee stuck on a deserted island?" and Ben popped up and had
this to say:

"Hey, ben folds here. I'm glad I brought along Radiohead's 'Just'
video...now i wish i had brought my VCR"

hehe.

then the afghan whigs came up and said "how can you bring a tv on a desert
island? it would get all wet and full of sand"

Amusing.

Subject: an entertaining message (hopefully) of me going on and on about the band

Well that was a long subject title. Anyway ... these past few days
have been days of Ben Folds Five ... not that every day isn't .... but anyway
...
I get home friday at 5 and my brother tells me that BF5 was on NPR's
"Fresh Air" at 3. ("I can't believe I missed it!", I thought) ... then, I
found out it was being rebroadcasted at 7. So I listened to it ... it was a
rebroadast of an interview from '98, talking about the band and WAEA ... with
ben in the studio. It was entertaining, a little informative ... for
example, I learned that Ben didn't really consider the band "punk rock for
sissies" ... and that the Klezmatics played on SLNIT ... other other great
crap.
Saturday I premiered my new discman with a car hookup, while driving
(well, being 15 years of age, I wasn't the one driving) up route 1. So of
course, the first CD I played, over the car stereo, was WAEA ... and then
TUBORM ... I think Narcolepsy brought down the car ... haha ... and I had the
windows open so everyone else could hear the great music (whether they like
it or not!). My father proceeds to tell me that he heard that there's going
to be a show on NPR Sunday about the band.
So, Sunday, I listen to the show. It was really great ... the guys
were in the studio, and played Army (with the "mommie" ending) ... it's
actually the best I've ever heard them play it .. they had saxes from SNZ and
John Mark Painter with them. They also played Narcolepsy (needed strings and
more bass), DCYP (very good), Jane, Mess (which Ben said he originally wrote
on guitar), Magic, aand Lullabye. The interviewers talked alot with the band
... but I can't remember much now. If anyone wants to trade something neat
for a copy of the 2 shows, email me.
Haha, you thought this email was over. But it's
not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was bored and surfing the 88.5 WXPN website
... so I checked out the 1997 top 50 albums as voted by listeners ... with
WAEA right there in third. I then tried 1995, to find out that s/t was #15!
I was so suprised! This is definately one of the best stations around...
Guess what ... I converted someone last week! My second convertee
.... I'm so happy. Okay, you don't care .. well ... yeah ... well ... ewell.
A month or so ago I downloaded Leather Jacket, listened to the first
few seconds, and stopped it. I didn't give it much of a chance. Just like
myself when I heard BF5 for the first time two years ago . Anyway, the other
day, played it again, and it's fascinated me! It's a great little song ... I
really think that it would be a Brick ... if it were a single. Doesn't it
seem like a Brick? Go Darren.
Finally ... I just referred to immediatly dismissing Ben Folds Five
when I heard it for the first time 2 years ago ... well, I'll tell that story
.. it's kinda ironic. .............. Well, I was at summer camp in 97, and
my counselor hands me this tape and says "check this out" ... well, I didn't
really feel like checking it out, but I did for a bit, and stopped it ... I
didn't give it a chance ... I wonder if I would have liked it ... (WAEA).
He even showed me the part in SLNIT where the phone rings, and I'm like
"that's so stupid." Then, when I was discussing the problems with the
guitarists of my band with that same counsuler, he said "why don't you just
have a piano-bass-drums band like Ben Folds Five" and I said "ha! yeah
right!" ... anyway .... Brick comes along a few monthes later, I despise it
... I change the station whenever I hear it ... perhaps just because in a car
I don't have much patience, especially with slow songs that are played 20
times a day and 40 times on Sundays.
Fastfoward to June 1998. Same camp, different year. One morning
someone in my bunk, someone starts playin this rockin' piano rock. So I'm
like, "who is this" ... "Ben Folds Five," he replies. Anyway, you can
probably figure out the rest of the story from there .....
Thanks for still being here and reading. Obviously, you have a
longer attention span than I do.
