all i know about BFF is what i've absorbed from the net and the great
people on it. on the posies list, i met a guy who works for BFF's
publishing co., sony music. (hi, lee, if you made it onto the list!) he
told me about this band, the semantics. wish i could remember the details.
basically, i think some of the folks in the semantics and ben folds used to
play together. i don't think the semantics have any recordings commercially
available. he sent me some tunes and the resemblance is absolutably
unmistakeable. just imagine BFF plus guitar, basically. my fave track (for
obvious reasons) is 'jenny won't play fair.' there's also one called 'baby
it's you' that was co-written by ben folds. be on the lookout in case they
ever put any recordings out. if anyone has more information, please feel
free to add to or correct all of this. :)
can't wait to find out when the austin date is!!
i want my black t-shirt,

I was just browsing yesterday afternoon, and upon doing a search for Ben
Folds Five, came up with some on-line store that claimed to have a 7" by
bf5...there was no name for it, but it was $3...The place was called DTOX
or something along those lines. I just tried searching again, but the
network at school seems to be incredibly bogged down right now...

Frank,
I'm a BM resident who's also a big BFF fan, so please add
me to the list. I'm sure tour info will come up at some point, but
is there a web page or something where this is listed? Can't wait
to catch them live, although I don't know if anything can match the
New Years Eve show here in Rochester!!! Thanks for taking on this
list!

hi everybody! i'm sorry this is kinda late and outdated, but i have been
having computer problems... anyway, i (like many other people on here)
heard about this group on BM, i'm so glad i found it! the cd is so new, and
look how many fans they have already! anyway, i saw them on conan (just
happened to be staying up late and watching , and
JUMPED out of bed and ran to tape it the second i heard them announce BF5 was
gonna be on!) it was a great show they played, they really seem to enjoy
what they are doing... i loved the little hand motion to "hand me my nose
ring"! it was also neat the way that they had darren start off, then robert
just sort of come in the picture, it was neat... looks like ben thought they
had the camera on him or something, cuz he sorta points to darren... i kinda
wish they had played philosophy, but ANYTHING by them is great!!! but
ANYWAY...
well, the day i got the cd, i wrote for lyrics like it said on the inside
cover, plus i wrote to the other address given for fan club stuff and
whatever... well, i have already gotten the lyrics sheets, along with a
friendly little note from the band... they are all around great guys! they
honestly seem to enjoy making music, and they are so darn good at it!

please add me, please?
all i know of Ben is what I've seen on
Conan O'Brien...there is not a cd to be
had in all of Santa Cruz...*sigh*
but my order from cdnow should calm me down
any day now.
==============================================================================
[No need to beg, Rahne! Looks like Caroline Records is going to have to
step up production or distribution since availability of the album seems
to be spotty. I'm always checking record stores to see what they have,
even if I have something already, and one of the larger Blockbuster Music
stores here doesn't even have a divider card for BFF and I've looked
under B and F. If they have to order another run of CDs this might result
in some differences between editions, like in the program booklet or the
jewel box. Might be fun to keep an eye out...
On another note, last week I was listening to the radio and heard an
interview with one of the music writers for the Detroit Journal, which is
staffed by writers from the News and Free Press who are on strike. She
was talking about up-and-coming acts to watch for in '96 and she
mentioned Ben Folds Five. She said there would be a story about it in the
Journal last weekend, but the story didn't mention them. But at least
another critic is hip to the band! -fjm]
