Hey everybody this is Paul, the owner of the BFF page
@cybergate.net, back again to bother you about Tampa tour dates in late
March, because BFF plays my home city of Cleveland the 19th at the Odeon and
I'm gonna miss the show! From the 17th on to Apr 1st, do they have a show
anywhere near Tampa?
Also I have finally located the URL for the QuickTime Video Clip for
Underground, it's at:
http://here.mtv.com/video/clips/b/ben.folds.5/underg.mov
And a great video it is! But you don't have to remember that because I'm
gonna link it up from my page.

the first time i heard Ben Folds Five i was in my friends car on the way to
see Barenaked Ladies, and BFF was the opening band (there were many bands
that night, but it was clearly a ladies crowd. most people left after BNL
played). so my friend played me most of Undergound and some of Summer B.
Underground gets alot of airplay here in LA, but i never listen to the
radio so i had never heard it. SO, Ben Folds Five was the first band and
they RULED!!! i was instantly won over. they got no sound check, and only
got to play about 25 minutes. but after their sminy little set, this mostly
Barenaked audience was STANDING and just plain goin nuts.
the point?... that first time, out of context, when i heard
Underground. it reminded me (only a little) of Todd Rundgren. and Summer B
reminded me (only a little) of Jellyfish. But after i finally bought and
heard the whole album from start to finish, i don't think he sounds like
ANYone. he is truly an original. the only comparison i use, to sway my
other friends, is to early Joe Jackson. because Joe also thought he had a
punk band with a piano.
sidenote: i love funk music. Prince, Funkadelic, James Brown....
funk and Zappa, that's for me. so i was very intrigued to hear Ben
himself claim that he grew up in "a Soul Train household"

THanks in advance.

I'm a newbie to this list, but more than quite excited to finally be
here to talk with other fans. They're far and few between up here in
Williams College, located in the Middle Of Nowhere, MA, but I've
begun prostelytizing the word of Ben and it's starting to catch on, I
surmise. However, I'm beginning to starve for more.
All I own is the album, and I NEED MORE STUFF!!! T-shirts, B-sides,
anything, I really don't care. I'd do anything to see them in
concert, but unfortunately, the closest they're coming in March is
Boston, and I can't make it that night. ACK!!! Does anyone out
there know any April dates?
Oh, and one other note, on the topic of "Who does BF5 sound like?"
Queen I never noticed, nor Elton John, nor any of the others,
although my little way of describing their sound has been, "If Billy
Joel and They Might Be Giants had a kid, it would be Ben Folds Five."
I know, much as I hate to admit it, they DO sound a lot like Billy
Joel when he was young and (yes, it's true) really damn cool. Check
out the first track on B.J's self-titled album and you'll see what I
mean.
Anyhow, it's great to be here, and the comedian's a bear!
TTFN,
Adam

i'm so excited that ben folds is actually playing SXSW!! it'll probably be
my last opportunity to go to scholz garten before it changes hands. (there
was an article in the austin paper saying the long-time owners are selling
soon.) plus this makes up for the fact that i had to miss their feb. 11
show because of my broken leg. hopefully i'll be able to tape this show.

hey cool, looks like you checked out School Kids Records on Franklin St.,
they had the coolest poster of Ben diving onto his piano. As far as summer
goes..., we should probably just leave her out of the discussions, man,
some of you people scare me. As far as BF5 T-shirts go, they do have them,
they've sold them for a long time at their shows (you can also see the
drummer of the Archers of Loaf in their video on MTV wearing one). Take
care...

Wha-sup folks,
I guess this one's for the local Triangle crowd. According to the tour dates
on the BFF web page, it says that BFF will be playing on Mar 30th at
"Trinity Farm" in Raleigh. Help me out.. I've never heard of this place.
Is this a nightclub or something and where is it? I missed them last time
they were
at the Brewery.
Thanks,

Just a few days away! I've never been to the Fox Theater in
Boulder, CO, but I know a lot of other famous faves of mine have, so
it oughta be a fine venue for BFF ..
Any other list members going? Gimme a buzz at beteille@iia.org,
perhaps we can meet up... I've yet to meet anyone in this state who
actually owns the album! :)
Also, since I'm in Colorado Springs, I don't get any Boulder radio
stations... is KBCO doing any special promotions for the show? I
know they often broadcast live from the Fox Theater, and perhaps some
kind soul is taping it that day! (*hopeful glance*)
See you (and BFF) Tuesday!

Many of you have read me post and rave about Bus Stop. I just thought
I'd mention that Ben Folds is the brother of Bus Stop bassist Chuck Folds
and has contributed piano tracks on some of their studio work. Chuck met
up with the other guys in the band because they were in a band with Ben
Folds called Majasha.
Check out Bus Stop :)

Hey, Shupe,
were you talking about the show at the hard rock in Newport Beach? If you
are, BFF did a great soundcheck of Video killed the radio star. I know
because I got there at 4 pm and was outside in the cold waiting to get in,
wondering who is that in there, it sounds fun! Unfortunately, the place was
so crowded, I didn't get up front until they were finished, and only got to
see the occasional popping up of Ben's head over the crowd... hehehe

There was an outdoor festival planned for the 30th w/BFF and some
other NC bands and I'm not sure if it was at Trinity Farm or not. At
any rate, the show didn't come together due to schduling conflicts and
now the only BFF Raleigh show that I know of is on the March 29th at the
Ritz. Check out the other bands if you get a chance -- Geezer Lake,
The Squirrel Nut Zippers and Dag.
