I was wondering if you know where I may find the file that has the gig
they played at Moe's in Seattle that was broadcast live via real audio.

 Thanks for your help!

All right, I've watched many good ideas being put forth for the list name.
But my favorite arcane reference to Ben and the Gang would be to call the
list simply "The Future." Why? Because as we all know in "Video" Ben gives
the quintessential sarcastic line "Oh what fun I can't wait till the future
gets here." I know I can't wait for the BF5 Mailer to arrive in my box,
so I can't wait for The Future to get here. Just a thought.

Does anybody know when this is going to be premiered??? I sure as hell don't
and I'm sure MTV won't be advertising it. Just wanted to know?
And also, what about the Uncle Waler EP? Did it come out or what? I haven't
 been able to find it.

To anyone who is concerned, Alice Childress is the mother of a pro football
player. He used to play for the Houston Oilers....his name is...Ray Childress.
Robert Sledge told me this after a concert.

 Dear List,

I fear I may have started that rumour, because I wrote about it in a record
review in the Madison Badger Herald back in September - it's probably
online in the entertainment section at http://www.badgerherald.com.

Also, there's an interview with the band that I did at
 http://harker.coolware.com/ajmetz/badger.html on my page.

 Enjoy. -->AJ

 * i have learned that BF5 will be appearing at Lalapalooza 96 this
summer. they'll be on the 2nd stage. how long do acts usually play
(wanting to see if it's worth it to go only for BF5)?
 * also: check out ENTERTAINMENT MAGAZINE this week (special 25 biggest
selling albums issue). though they're infamous for their crackpot views
on music and movies, they give some credit where it's due. on the ELTON
JOHN'S GREATEST HITS section, Ben Folds is quoted extensively on Elton.
As a huge fan of both, it's a great thing to see!

 Subject: BFF list name

my 2 cents on the list name topic:

'the pit fantastic' doesn't sit well with me because it's an incomplete
thought. 'slamming the pit fantastic,' maybe. but 'the pit fantastic' by
 itself doesn't make any sense.

despite the 'uncle walter' detractors, i kinda like 'magical armchair'
because i think it applies to all of us sitting at our desks, being
transported across the world via the internet. very appropriate, imho, even
though i know that's not quite what the phrase means in the song.

i think 'jackson mailery' and 'ben folds files' are pretty damn clever.

i also like 'list for the dumped,' but probably because it's so similar to
'list for whoever' (the beautiful south/housemartins list).

part of the reason i suggested a name was because i think it really needs
to be shorter than 'the ben folds five digest.' (sorry, roobness.) if that
were in the 'from' field, on some mail programs, the name would be too long
to fit into the index. when we were coming up with a name for the bs/hm
list, it was recommended to me not to make it longer than three words, and
preferably one or two. the brevity and simplicity make it easier for
people. and if frank ever gets tired of doing this manually (which i'm
guessing he will), you'll want a name that will be easily transferred to
some kind of automated system. (ie, the address for the 'list for whoever'
is lfw@...; the uncle tupelo, etc., list is postcard@...; the posies list
 is dear23@...)

it may even be that we're completely overlooking the obvious here. what
 about just BFF or BF5?

and to whoever mentioned zumpano - great album! i haven't listened to it in
awhile and had never made any kind of BFF parallels. i'll have to revisit
 it.

Someone said they heard BF5 on "Unfiltered" on eMpTyV. Well, I too heard a
bit of "Underground" on a recent House of Style. Just the piano intro, and
it was short, but at least they're getting more airplay and recognition.
Now. . .if they would only play the video more. And I also saw "The Truth
About Cats and Dogs." The only reason my sister and I wasted the $6.50 to
see it was to hear "Bad Idea." It was worth it. The movie itself, well,
 that's another story!

 "Officer Friendly's little boy's got a mohawk!",
 Bethany

P.S. My vote is for "The Pit Fantastic!" It's the first song that turned me
 on the BF5.

[I gather you didn't like the movie. I thought it was really cute. A
chick movie that guys can like too. The scene they used "Retarded" in
("Bad Idea," for the film) was one of the most memorable. And we only
paid $3.50. Early bird show. -fjm]

 Hey man,
although I am not the biggest BFF fan, I do think that their music is
better than most. The real reason I am joining is for my friend who is a
disciple of the BFF. So please put me on the mailing list. By the by they
are playing Charleston, SC at the Music Farm on May 30 I do believe.
 Thanks,
 Dallas V.

[Welcome to the list, Frank/Dallas, and thanks for the Charleston date.
I've put it on the Tour Dates page. Hopefully your friend will make you a

Subject: Mr. Wrong and His 10 Favorite Bands

 Dear friends,

Dig this : I recently took a trip into Sacramento with my girl to get her
some nice shoes for senior ball. Thirty shoe stores later, we couldn't find
any decent shoes. However, I did have the good fortune to make a stop at a
Camelot music store. As I entered, my attention was drawn to a sign that
read "Buy any Maxell Product and Get a Free CD." This looked to be a good
deal, until I saw that the selection of CDs was limited to a crappy li'l bin
under the sign. Long story short, after sorting through the rubbish, I came
across a Mr. Wrong soundtrack. I wasn't going to buy it for just one song,
but if it's free, hey,why the hell not? I grabbed a pack of Maxell blank
tapes, and got my free Mr. Wrong soundtrack. Conclusion : I'm extremely
pleased with Song for the Dumped, though I prefer the live version.

A few days ago, I proposed the idea of sending a list of your top ten
favorite bands to me, and I'd compile the top vote getters for the list.
Well, I got a whopping five responses (thanks to those five! They each get
cookies), which wasn't exactly what I was looking for from the hundreds who
read the list. Don't be shy. This completed list could be a great way to
discover some bands you may not have heard before. The more people who
simply type their ten favorite bands and send it to me, the more complete the
list will be. Those interested may e-mail me with their list, and in about a
week, I'll put up the final tally. Let your voice be heard, my brothers and
 sisters.

 Take care,

 Adam Kline

[As mentioned above, Ben Folds Five will be joining the Second Stage
bands on the first half of this year's Lollapalooza tour. The dates for
this year's shows haven't all been set yet, but we'll post them here as
soon as they are available. For instance, this year's Michigan show was to
have been in Allegan until locals caught wind of the plans and denied them
a permit to hold the show. I will put a link to the Lollapalooza web page
on the BFF pages. Here is the press release announcing the Second Stage
 bands: -fjm]

LOLLAPALOOZA '96 SECOND STAGE FORECASTS THE FUTURE OF ROCK
With Girls Against Boys, Ruby, Ben Folds Five, Soul Coughing,
Cornershop, The Melvins And A Host Of Music's Hottest New Artists
Lollapalooza '96 Debuts Indie Stage Featuring Today's Finest
                          Independent Label Acts
LOS ANGELES, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Ever hear of Coolio? ... Flaming
Lips? ... Moby? ... Luscious Jackson? Of course you have. They are
some of the coolest names in music today. However, that wasn't always
the case. These bands all got a major career boost on Lollapalooza's
Second Stage. The Second Stage line-up for Lollapalooza '96 should keep
the music festival's phenomenal track record for predicting talent
running longer than that annoying Energizer Bunny. The Second Stage
will be undergoing a change for this year's festival, with Lollapalooza
organizer Ted Gardner stating, "The Second Stage will be given a more
prominent role in the day's events."
The Second Stage line-up for the tour is as follows:
First Half of Tour Second Half of Tour
     Girls Against Boys Soul Coughing
     Ben Folds Five Sponge
     Cornershop The Melvins
     Satchel Ruby
     You Am I Jonny Polonsky
Beth Hart Low & Sweet Orchestra
As major record labels, managers & agents infiltrated the world of
alternative music, many of the most cutting-edge, eclectic artists on
independent labels with little or no resources were left standing in the
shadows. So, in addition to this year's Second Stage, Lollapalooza '96
is debuting a third stage known as The Indie Stage featuring the most
arresting, fascinating artists the independent labels have to offer.
The Indie Stage line-up is as follows:
First Half of Tour Second Half of Tour
     Chune COWS
     Moonshake Long Fin Killie
     Lutefisk Thirty-Ought-Six
     Capsize 7 Varnaline
Tickets for Lollapalooza '96 may be purchased via the official
Lollapalooza Internet site over the course of the 25-city summer tour.
These tickets earmarked for the Internet, will go on sale three days
before the remaining tickets become available through the usual
channels. Access for ticket sales will be obtained at Lollapalooza's
web site, (http://lollapalooza.com) and also Ticketmaster Online,
 (http://www.ticketmaster.com).
With the Main Stage, The Second Stage, and now, The Indie Stage,
Lollapalooza '96 has spawned the most radical line-up in the history of
the tour. From mighty Metallica to launching Lutefisk, the music at
Lollapalooza '96 promises a diversity like no other show -- ever.
See the future of rock now!
