Sparked by Frank's post regarding BFF's inclusion on Mtv, I thought I'd
 throw in my two cents...

At midnight tonight Mtv aired a little "preview" of M2, their new station.
I was astonished when (GASP!) they aired videos for two straight hours!
No Sandblast, Singled Out, or Grind to be found! They played a wide
variety of videos. Unfortunately, my cable sucks so I probably won't
be getting the channel. but for those who do, it would be great to
hear if the boys were getting play on the sister station.

 Later,

 Jason

Excerpt from Dave's reply to scottwvu's submission about underage fans:

I was at this show, standing right up front & having a blast. During a
break to fix the equipment I began chatting with some folks around me.
Turns out they too were underage and had driven hours for the show.
Initally they were turned away at the door; however, while lurking
around outside they ran into Ben himself! He snuck them in a back door.

I guess the moral of this story is there's always a way into any bar--
you just have to be patient and creative.

I guess you're right... In fact, we had some pretty wild ideas about
getting into the show... i.e. One of the ideas was to say one of us was
Ben Folds brother, Bill Folds 8^), all the way from NC... We didnt have the
guts to try it so we spent 3 hrs walking around Pittsburgh.

Question: Why does everyone want Ben Folds to be on MTV so badly? I think
if BF5 was on MTV it would become another obscure MTV "Alternative" band...
I'd much rather see them at somethinglike Lolla. showing up the other
 bands!! Thoughts?

Does anybody know when the album with covers of one hit wonders, including
BFF doing "Video Killed the Radio Star", is coming out? And if so, does
anybody know what else is going to be on it?

A friend who isn't on the list currently asked me to forward this:

 >I know there's a lot of Jellyfish fans out there, so I thought I'd mention
 >that Jason Falkner is gonna be playing 2 shows in LA in the next week.
 >
 >The first will be tomorrow night (Thursday) at the Opium Den and then
 >Monday at Luna Park. The Luna Park show might sell out because it's an
 >industry showcase of sorts.

Just wondering...how much time will be allotted to the boys during the Neil

To my surprise and astonishment, my local Blockbuster Music has3 or so copies
of the infamous Sum B single. If anyone is having trouble finding it, I
would be happy to purchase it for them provided they supply the moola.
    Swingfully,

 Subject: Jealousy...(BFF)

As I was reading the magical armchair, I became somewhat jealous (in
a good way, of course) of some of the list members....they live
fairly large cities. I, from a small village in South Dakota, have
no access to semi-rare cds. Well, what I'm leading up to is: does
anybody have extra copies of singles, bootlegs, etc/ or is willing to
make a tape of that kind of stuff for me? I know it's perhaps a lot
to ask (I have no idea what kind of things they've released), but I'd
be ever so appreciative (and try to make it worth your while?).
 Please e-me privately. THANKS!

I 1983 three friends + myself drove from LaCrosse to Madison, WI (about
2+half hours) to see the Ramones. One of my friends was under-age...couldn't
get in...but ran into Johnny Ramone, who let him in the backstage door. On
occassion when I've been too poor to see a show, I've hung out + talked a
band into a "guest list" spot. There...the secret is out. Don't abuse it.

 ooh ooh, me me! ;)

hey! dont you EVER call Much an equivalent to MTV!! Much actually plays
music videos.. ;) From what I hear from people who receive and watch both
stations, Muchmusic is a better station.. but I've yet to see a BF5 video on
Much.. Although, they DO have that 5 second video clip of Ben on the WWW
 page.. that's pretty cool.

Alright Canucks and (non-canucks who get muchmusic), it's time for us to
unite and bash down Much's door with a flood of emails.. Let's get some BF5
on Muchmusic! I think the band would go over really well up here, but the
problem is lack of exposure. NOBODY knows these guys up here!

 Have a good one, eh!

Does anybody out there have a bootleg or a recording of BFF doing
Video Killed the Radio Star? To me, it was the finest song they
performed at the Columbus Lollapalooza. Maybe it will even be on

knows where I can get a recording, clue me in.

[Alan Wolmark sends along some sales figures: "Jackson Cannery" went
Top 5 on Japanese radio. And Wednesday the band received gold plaques
from Toshiba/EMI - Japan for sales exceeding 100,000. We have now sold
over 150,000 there and had two Top 5 singles there thus far.

Early into the thread, I mentioned I was a graduate of the same high
school that produced Mitch Easter and Peter Holsapple, and then Sujan
wrote me to add that Ben Folds and the dudes from Flat Duo Jets went
there, too. So survery...anybody else claim RJR as their alma mater? Oh,
Will Rigby went there, too; he shows up in a lot of alterna-pop places...
