I agree. My friend says no but I definitely think some of his material
sounds like Todd Rundgren some. the voice on some tracks and the piano.
Someone else said Joe jackson and that is who my friend agreed with. But
I still think they sound similar to Todd.

Another side note on Jump, Little Children...
The members of JLC are from the same hometown as Ben Folds. In fact, two of
them even went to the same high school as Ben (although a few years later).

 Subject: BF5 & Fleming & John & Stuff

Just wanted to clarify, correct, or whatever the comments on Ben and
 Fleming & John.

Yes, Fleming & John, as mentioned on Ben's album, are in fact the same band
with the current single "Love Songs." "Love Songs" is doing really well on
Atlanta's 99X as well as other stations throughout the country and is their
second single--"I'm Not Afraid" was their first.

Ben calls them "The Carpenters of the 90's with Led Zepplin's rythm
section." I think it was the _Alternative Press_ who called them "pure pop
gorgeousness." And _Electronic Musician_ says they have a "'Kate Bush
 fronting Led Zepplin' sonic assault."

F&J didn't play on the first BF5 record. However, John Painter (John of
F&J) recently told me that Ben is doing some recording in the F&J home
studio--IHOF (International House of Fleming). If there are any strings on
this one, John will likely arrange them...

As for playing Atlanta. They play there regularly. I saw them there back
in August at the Cotton Club. They are playing there Halloween Night
opening for Crash Test Dummies. Check 'em out if you're in Atlanta.
(Their holiday shows usually have special surprise covers... and they're
known for their covers of "I Got You, Babe" to the tune of "Black Dog" and
"Sunshine on my Shoulders" to the tune of "Ramble On.")

 BTW, Fleming has one m.

OBBF5: I discovered BF5 when they were closing for F&J at a gig in
Greensboro, NC. Odd that a band from Nashville would introduce me to a
band from the town I've lived in for the past 9 years...

To all of you who post that they have bootlegs to trade:

When somone emails you about bootlegs, email them back. Otherwise, your
quest for trading bootlegs is pointless. I don't know how many times I've
emailed people who have BF5 boots, and never hear from them. So for the
final time IF ANY OF YOU HAVE BF5 BOOTLEGS, EMAIL ME. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO
 TRADE WHAT I HAVE.

 Thank you,

   Howie Stuart sez:
Sorry to disapoint you, but I think you may be wrong. I have heard Ben
confirm in an interview that the song was inspired by Mohammed Ali and
Howard Cosell. In fact, if you listen to the lyrics, it is clear that
the song is sung from Ali's point of view to Cosell.

   I sez:
   Finally someone gets it right!

<< Inside info - Sony is recording BFF live in London in the 3rd week of
November (forget the exact date). Earlier live recorded tracks (in the US)
had to be scrapped because the quality of the performance was not up to
 par.
This is intended to be a major label record release.

Are they releasing a live cd in addition to the new one or is the new one
 going to be recorded live?

Somebody said that Billy Joel and Elton John made the piano unpopular.
Are we listening to the same Billy Joel? I don't care so much for
Elton, but I grew up on Billy, AND love BFF as well. I guess that's what
 makes the world go round.
Has the writer of this article heard great tunes like "Zanzibar" and
"Stiletto?" Billy Joel practically kept the pop piano alive through the
eighties. I won't mention his later years, but I have always admired his
 compositions.
Did anybody else become a little pissed at that last post? Or has
everybody turned their backs on Billy Joel.

first of all, i'm the one nick 'reunited with' and i'm not his mother, but it
was actually very cool that we found each other. i now e-mail him every day
(hang in there buddy). anyway, second of all. i have loved boxing ever since
i first heard it. it is......awesome. there are no words to describe what it
feels like to listen to it, though the rem 'nightswimming' experience comes
close. i'm 17 years old, never seen ali and cossell together, and the song
still gives me goosebumps. it's like good poetry, everyone relates. and last.
my frickin' cd is starting to skip. only on songs 8-11 though. so i still get
boxing. thank god for small things. au revoir to you all. live on in the
 peace of ben folds five.

[First information is coming in from Sony on the new album. Pat Meusel
has sent along the tentative track list:

   BRICK (Folds/Jessee)
   SONG FOR THE DUMPED (Folds/Jessee)
   ALL IS FAIR (Folds)
   SMOKE (Folds/Goodman)
   KATE (Folds/Jessee/Goodman)
STEVEN'S LAST NIGHT IN TOWN (Folds)
   SELFLESS, COLD AND COMPOSED (Folds)
BATTLE OF WHO COULD CARE LESS (Folds)
ONE ANGRY DWARF AND 200 SOLEMN FACES (Folds)
   EVAPORATED (Folds)
   MISSING THE WAR (Folds)
   CIGARETTE (Folds/?)

Pat also says that Ben was in the studio at Sony about three weeks ago
doing tape transfers. They recorded at Ben's house, as was discussed on
the Armchair previously, using a couple of DA-88 machines and a bunch of
vintage mics and audio gear, and they were transferring it to 48 track
digital for mastering. So it looks like the recording is done and it's
 all sweetening from here! -fjm]
