I listened to all of the comments, and finally splurged last night
and bought the new album. A bonus incentive was the dollar off
coupon I had received from Sony (did anyone else get this?).
After my first two listens, my opinion is that it is very good. It
actually grabbed me faster than the first album, but then my
expectations were lower after all of the semi-negative comments I saw
here on the list. I generally tend to like or not like whole albums,
so I won't get into specific songs. I'll definitely be bombarding
all my friends with it over the next few months!

I'm new to this kind of thing so it's my first message to all you fellow
bff fans out there. I've been reading some of the messages I've been
getting and it's really cool to hear from people with like minds in far
away places. It would also be great to know about people who are living
here in sunny Britain, email me personally if it's easier. I saw bff
when they were on tour and in Reading which was really impressive I've
heard rumours about new tour dates can anyone give me firmer details.
Keep listening! Kelly

I think he problem here is RayGun magazine, myself. A few years ago, Mindy
was a writer for the Austin Chronicle and was the only writer in town to
pay attention to any band that was even remotely "pop". As matter of fact,
when BFF first came to Austin, she wrote a pretty glowing recommendation.
This, at a time when only trad-country, white blues and frat-boy funk were
getting any press here. RayGun is an even more elitist mag with more
emphasis placed on whether something is cool or not than any artistic
merit. Freelance writers often submit pieces to RayGun to showcase their
personal favorite bands, since there is not much editorial control over the
actual copy. The editors prefer to tweak the design within an inch of it's
freakin' life than to even proofread the copy. (As a typesetter for a
decade, it hurts my eyes and my very soul to read that mess of ink on paper
they call a magazine. Once I saw an entire article on Bryan Ferry set in
Zapf Dingbats!)
Judging from the context of the quote, BFF is not at the cool table, Mindy
is. The cool table IS RayGun. Style over substance, fashion without
passion, designed to look undesigned. Mindy cannot jump around like a dork
becuase she'll disturb the trained monkeys that are busy hunkered over the
layout...
