Hi, I realize this isn't really structured, but being new to BFF, I was
wondering if their first album is similar to the most recently released
one. (I assume they only have two CDs, I have only been able to find two).
I also think it is very interesting that y'all live in Minneapolis because
I go to school at Saint Cloud State.

My top ten albums?...

Wu-Tang Clan-Enter The 36 Chambers.
Notorious BIG-Life After Death
Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack
Chemical Brothers-Dig Your Own Hole
Ben Folds Five-BFF
Wu-Tang Clan-Wu-Tang Forever

That's all I consider to be great.(Besides Some Various Disco CDs)

'Kate' makes a stunning chart entry at 39 in the UK charts. I was gutted.
Well ..gutted is a bit strong, but I'm now ten pounds worse off since I
bet someone it would go top 10. The UK charts tend to work on a 'high
entry, and then move down the charts' basis, so I think that could be it
for their latest single. I was really suprised considering their awesome
apperance on 'TFI Fridays'. Radio 1 haven't really got behind this track
in the same way that they did with 'Battle', which perhaps explains the
low chart entry, although a lot of the local radio stations gave it
plenty of airplay. If they'd come into the top 20, they may have got an
apperance on 'Top Of The Pops', and suddenly a whole new audience is
reached. Next single will have to be something mellow I think - perhaps
'Missing the War' or 'Selfless Cold and Composed'.

Whilst on Kate, I've listened to all the B sides released with both
singles, and apart from 'Mitchell Lane' they are utter throwaway.
Especially the 'comedy' version of 'All Shook Up'. Someone on this list
suggested live tracks would be preferable to this fodder, and I'd agree.
The Japanese 'Dumped' for instance?

Here's my nine fave LP's, for what its worth, in no order. If anyone know
of any decent mailing lists featuring any of these bands, or justs wants
to chat about them with me, mail me at 'sburrows@madge.com'.

Billy Bragg - Workers Playtime
Ben Folds Five - Ben Folds Five
The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
The Smiths - Hatful of Hollow
The Proclaimers - This Is The Story
Del Amitri - Waking Hours
The Beautiful South - Welcome To
Queen - A Night At The Opera
Frank Sinatra - Songs For Swinging Lovers
Billy Joel - An Innocent Man

In the words of the Cranberries, who have made the worst albums ever,
'everyone else id doing so why can't we'. Here's my list:

No particular order:

 BF5 - BF5
 BF5 - Whatever...
Blur - Modern Life Is Rubbish
Faith No More - The Real Thing (although Album Of The Year is really
growing on me)
Prince - Sign O' The Times
Brendan Benson - One Mississippi (Don't know hoe new this is, but I
just got oi and there are some excellent co-writes with Jason Falkner)
 Jellyfish - Spilt Milk
The Verve - A Northern Soul
Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go
David Devant & His Spirit Wife - Work, Lovelife, Miscellaneous
(only just got this, and I haven't been so hooked on a record since
BF5 debut)

Perhaps one or two of these might be a bit too British for some
tastes, but I love them all.
Also, well done to the person who named Sloan in their top ten. I'm
sure I'm the only person in Britain ever to buy Smeared. I actually
don't think it's that good, but Underwhelmed is one of my fave
singles ever.

  Bye then. Andy.

Kind of mixed feelings about this show. The setlist has already been posted
so I won't waste the space. Very short set - they only played for about 70
minutes, and that includes cheering time before the encore. Please keep in
mind that my impression of this show is measured against the Philly show that
I saw last month.

The mix was not very good for the first half of the show - too much bass, and
too little vocals on Ben. Not a lot of banter with the crowd. The crowd was
only fair (no pun intended)......95% of the crowd ignored Brick and were
talking - the chit chat was quite loud, I'm sure that the guys heard it. The
other two times I've seen BF5, they have had a lot of interaction with the
crowd......they are up there having fun and its contageous. I wouldn't say
that they weren't having fun, but it definitely lacked the energy that I've
seen in the past. I don't think that DC is much of a BF5 kinda town (they
get verrrry occasional airplay on WRNR whose signal is quite weak). Not a
lot of people knew the songs.......Ben had to sing the first verse of Song
for the Dumped.......that had me bumming.

Don't get me wrong - it wasn't a bad show.....it just wasn't up to BF5
standard. There is still no place I would have rather been than the 9:30
Club that night. They could have played for only 10 minutes and it would
have been worth the price of admission for me.......hell, Ben's Bill Clinton
impersonation was worth the price of admission! Just wanted to throw in my
$.02...........

Okay. Here's all I'm telling you.

At 8pm a chic and a guy came out and she started singing (is that what
you call it???). Actually she was screaming. I think she tried too hard to
be like Melissa Ethridge. So any-hoo, she sucked.

September 67 came out and were very, very impressive. Great harmony
between these two artists. I met them after the show in the back "cozy,
hospitality" room and they signed a poster I snagged from the wall. They
were very nice and friendly. I hope to see them do well. I will be picking
their CD up soon.

Ben, Robert, and Darren were great. We saw them in STL on April 22
and this show was completely different. We chatted with Darren before
the show out front of the club. He was just outside walking about
smoking a cigarette. We had a great view from the right side of the stage.
They played for about an hour and a half and FINALLY played Uncle
Walter. No Sports and Wine though. Oh well. Maybe on HORDE.

We also talked some more with Ben and Darren after the show and
finally got to meet Kate. She is one incredible person and her and Ben are
SO adorable together. Her father directed one of my favorite movies,
"Watership Down." Very kewl to meet her finally.

We finally split from Ben, Darren, and Kate about 1am and headed home.
Pulled in the driveway RIGHT when the sun came up. Long night but
definitely worth it. Looking forward to catching up with them at HORDE
when it comes through STL.

That's all I'm saying. I'm not one to "kiss and tell." But I can tell you this:
The show ended at 11:30 and we left at 1am, so use your imagination.

Also, the crowd was full of teens and was much younger than I would
imagine. I felt old. That is until the show ended and we hung around a
"few" people our age. . .hmm. . .I wonder who???

Also!!!! I got ask Darren if he was "cool in school. . ." He rolled his eyes
when he saw who was asking. What a great group of guys.

bye now. . .Erik.

(I'm sorry; I just can't seem to get past this "Roudness" thing that Robert
Sledge was saying on 120 Minutes)

Welp, the Milwaukee show has come and gone, and let me tell you folks, it was
the best concert I've been to in quite a while (next to the TMBG show last year
in Beertown). I was right up front with my little camera, snappin' away.
The energy they had was incredible - IMHO much better than the Chicago show.
Sam J. Lewis? Joel the baker? Were you guys there last night? (I think I
might have seen Joel due to his description of himself, but I'm not sure).

I'm not going to get into specifics or write out the whole setlist, BUT... they
DID play "Uncle Walter"! All is not lost, Fellow Armchairianitiatomatics! It
looks like they play that one sporadically. They opened with "Missing the War"
which pretty much seems par for the course, and there was really nothing
different from the other posts I've seen here. "Emmaline" and "She Don't Use
Jelly" sounded really cool!

Somebody from yesterday's Armchair mentioned that they do a little piece of
Black Sabbath in their Jam/Rap thing... I caught that, too (it sounds like
"Hand of Doom" from the "Paranoid" album). The "Bobby-Bob Sledge in the
Muthafuckin' hayouse" thing was hilarious! Ben's flying dive at the piano keys
was pretty cool, too -- how DOES he keep that damn thing in tune and in one
piece???

I'm groovin' on the feelings of the show, which is why I'm not big into
specifics. I can't wait until I get the pictures back. Is there a rule about
no flash photography? Cuz the guy next to me took a flash picture right away
and Ben looked slightly annoyed, just for a second. After that, it didn't seem
to bother them... I just hope Ben and the boys weren't distracted at all by
the flashes. Anyway, I'm ramblin' now so I guess I'll get outta here.

I don't think there are many words to describe the show on Monday in Cincy.
It was my sixth BF5 show, and the best yet. For those of you that have been
complaining about not hearing Sports and Wine and Uncle Walter, sorry you
missed it. How about that meet and greet thing at the coffee shop beforehand?
Way cool. I asked Ben if they would be doing Mitchell Lane, and he told me
they were going to put it in the closet till the fall. Damn. Well, off to my
