TOP TEN LISTS:
The Top Ten lists of other favorite bands have been fun but are
beginning to annoy a lot of subscribers. Let's try to curtail the thread.
If anyone wants to volunteer to accept top-ten lists and make them
available some other way (such as on the web somewhere), please step
forward. Or we could all post them to alt.music.ben-folds-five! Also,
please don't post comments to the list saying how annoyed you are with
the top-ten lists, as that would be off-topic. Thanks.

i am responding to the few people that seemed to notice the "satanic"
speaking on the bff gig on conan, as i have taped it, and have my own
theory...COULD THIS BE A NEW TREND ON THE ARMCHAIR?...anyway, i have my
own thought on this sound byte...the first time it speaks, im not sure
of what it says, but after that, i swear it says "its been a long time
since we were back in LA,"...now im no rap analyst, but isnt that a
lyric of some tupac song or something? the voice fits it too, just a bit
slower and lower...well, thats my idea, any others?
plus, jenny mc. show was decent...good physical performance, but the
song itself sounded too much to me like the one on the album, i was
hoping for some improvs....
well, see ya all this summer at horde...

Subject: Minneapolis/live song/REV105 RALLY THINGY!!!!!
Ok. Three things. Here goes:
1.) I still would like to get my hands on a boot of the 6/4/97 MN show
at First Ave. Someone must have it because i've heard the clip of Ben
dissing the Edge.
2.) Can anyone identify the song they've been singing live that goes:
"I've been down since day one!!" Sorry if this is a stupid question. I
live in Edina, MN. For all of you who know this place, yes I agree that
it's a bunch of friking cake-eater scum. I hate this place. Anyway,
there's nobody here that listens to anything but KDWB and the Edge. All
of my friends who SUPPORT MUSICAL DIVERSITY (foREVer 105!) can't
identify this song. So I call on you all for help...
3.) This may seem like a far fetched idea that probably won't ever
happen, but I think since there are so many people on this list from MN,
I (we) would like to organize a meeting/rally type thing to support
REV. Maybe raise some funds or something. After all, the sale isn't
final yet. I'm sure there's still SOMETHING we can do.... So if it is
possible I'd like to hear some feedback on the meeting/rally idea. It
would at least give us all a chance to meet some fellow SUPPORTERS OF
MUSICAL DIVERSITY (sorry, I had to do it again), maybe learn about the
music we HAVE'NT been hearing lately.
Biff
mikef1@primenet.com
P.S. Please excuse my whining and crying over the loss of REV. It is
perhaps the most difficult thing I've ever dealt with in my short
pathetic life (I'm fifteen, life sucks in Edina).....

Oh.. I have to disagree. The songs may be more conservative, but thats
just because they didn't want to go out with all guns blazzing with their
first album just incase nobody liked that style of music.. shyness maybe. :)
Anyway, most of my favorite songs come from the first CD. Everyone's
favorite song (well.. it seems the media's favorite song) Battle of Who
Could Care Less is the sister song to The Last Polka. I actually prefer
the Last Polka because it DOES have more emotion in it. And lets just not
forget Philosophy and Best Imitation.. they don't get any better than that.
Sure, there may not be as many slow songs as on Watever and Ever Amen, but
that doesn't mean they don't have feeling.

Actually, we should all take heart that NUVO gave BFF a bad review, as it
has proven throughout the past couple of years that it is definitively one
of the worst-written "alternative newsweeklies"--or whatever the hell it
considers itself--on the planet. Like, two guys write 90% of the articles,
and they *still* haven't yet acquired a knack for journalism. And you
wonder why it's still not charging for copies after being in production for
years...the Boston Phoenix it's not.

I'd have to disagree with you here. I'd take the first album
over the second album any day.
I think it depends on which album you had first, which would therefore
be the album which caused you to fall in love with BF5.
That is only my theory.
WARNING: I am not trying to encourage people to send mass postings
to the Magical Armchair listing their favorite BF5 album. I hope
a new "my favorite BF5 album" thread doesn't start and
add to the civil war within this list ;)

When I was at the show in Atlanta, he was wearing the same shirt he wore on
Conan. One of my friends said that she liked his shirt and he said thanks and
that he got it from a thrift shop. Maybe the shirt that was thrown on stage
at the Clevland show threw a different one. ?

I know it's totally non-BFF related, but anyway....I have this same sampler

better than the Five for Fighting song. Personally, I think the FFF song is

Specifically I am asking because I saw a girl w/ the BFF WEAEA shirt. The one
with the picture of the piano, bass, & drums on the back. Let me know.

Hi, i'm brand new to the list and have many questions (which is mainly why
i joined). My first BFF experience was the first Conan appearance in '95.
There is nothing i love more than the music of BFF, my other most favorite
band being God Street Wine. Now to my questions----
1) Central Park appearance on June 25th, i have no information and can't
find any, could someone please tell me what time the show is and any other
pertinent information.
2)Does Ben Folds allow fans to tape their shows? Coming from the GSW seen,
it's alien to me that a band wouldn't but i can understand why they
wouldn't.
3)Whats this Channel 13 thing i've heard about and where is it airing?
4)How did the band get so many japanese and english fans (aside from the
fact that it's the best music in the world)
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated,
Brian (the bananaman)

Dave Coates, King of Picture Hanging >>
You know, I don't love the off topic commentary, but sometimes it's
interesting. One thing I really hate though are people who have to remind
everyone that "I WAS A CORE FAN" or "I WAS HERE FIRST." Let me let you onto a
little reality check, Paco - If Ben Folds Five doesn't pick up new fans (be
it teeny boppers, crack addicts or prostitute grandmothers), there won't be a
Ben Folds Five 'cos I suppose Ben et al enjoy both eating and shelter. The
idea is, "Hey, we'll make a record and people will buy it." If people don't
buy it, there will be no record, and no reason for a Ben Folds Five mailing
list and no place for you to type inane comments like, "Grab your ankles and
submit to the Borg." (which, call me crazy, makes me think you should really
not be making fun of ANYONE after typing that.)
You should be happy BFF has new fans because it means there will be more BFF.
I love them. I wish them lots of money from teenyboppers so I can spend
copious amounts of cash on BFF products. I was a big fan of a musical artist
named Mary Karlzen (out of SoFla). She got a record contract and I was
thrilled. Lots of Mary now. Nobody bought the album (well, some did, but not
enough) so now, no more Mary. I really don't relish the idea of "no more Ben
Folds Five".
I've got a hard core obsession brewing and I don't need it squelched yet.

No, I am not posting a top 10, but I just read thru the last 20 Armchairs
(I was a bit behind!) and had to note the good taste of a few Armchairites
who must be sort of "old school" to pick: Smiths, Housemartins, XTC,
Pursuit of Happiness, Squeeze (East Side), & Elvis Costello (Trust). I
think what originally turned me on to BFF was the variety and depth of the
songwriting which is really the only similarity to some of those bands.
