Just a quick note. The reason some people have been saying it has been
decided that Brick is about abortion is because IT IS ABOUT ABORTION. Ben
Folds, you know the one I mean, says it IS ABOUT ABORTION. Yes, he has
actually come out and said it.
On another note, can someone help me figure out what "Dumped" is
referring to. Who was dumped? When? Why? Was it Ben? Was it Darren? Was
it Robert? Who would dump such charming gents? Is it symbolism? Or irony?
I'm kidding.

i have a bff bootleg from 1/96 where the encore is a cover of an old
buggles' tune called "video killed the radio star." ben introduces it
by saying that they covered it on a compilation disk of one-hit-wonders.
does anyone know the name of this compilation disk or where it can be
found? if so, you can e-mail me privately at bpclasen@csbsju.edu . on
another note - i dont know how this got started, but it intrigues the

about the Counting Crows on the armchair I had to say my piece. I will
admit, as a songwriter on record, he is quite talented. But, (and this is a

I know this isn't BFF content, but I couldn't help myself when I saw this
written. I guess I just figured anyone who listens and enjoys BFF would also
like the Crows. I've seen Counting Crows four times this year and I
personally think they are the BEST live performers I have ever seen. I have
never seen BFF and I'm sure they are great but give me a break--??the
worst??--I think that's taking it a little far. Adam Duritz is the most
talented singer/song-writer/live-performer to my extensive knowledge.

Subject: Why people like hanson
we all know that you would be lucky to find a total of 4 chords in
hanson's songs, but that's WHY people like them. i think it's the good
song writers that can take the same old 4 chords that have been used
before and make a completely different song out of it, which of course
says my belief that i don't think hanson writes their own songs. let me
give another example of a great songwriter: Kurt Cobain. i know a lot of
people don't like nirvana or don't appreciate them for their music. i say
even if you don't like them, i don't think you should have a choice or not
on whether they had good songs or not. who else but cobain could take the
same chord progression and start an entirely new sub-genre (grunge). no
one has done that since REM practically started alternative. now, in no
way am i comparing the talents of measly hanson with the greats of nirvana
and REM, for even though they can take the same chords and progressions
that have been used before and make them into something catchy, there
still remains a very large gap between hanson and the rest. you see,
hanson's songs don't MEAN anything; the songs don't reach out and touch
anybody's heart, whereas nirvana and REM continue to have undying fans who
swear their lives by the music. overall, hanson, unless they come out
with some meaningless music, is destined to be a quick rise and fall, and
more than likely, in another six months, we won't be hearing about them at
all. i hope some of you appreciate this, as i now feel i've written an
entire essay for my english class here at school, but there's a difference
between those and this one: i care about what i'm talking about. in
addition, i rate ben and the guys right up there with kurt and REM, cause
they too have a loyal group of fans...us.
i love you guys

Armchair readers,
hmm...a different way to address this. Anyway, i was wondering if there
were any armchairites from Wisconsin. I might be alone here...but oh
well. If any of you are out there email me. We must all unite. Also,
does bff have any plans for another tour in the us or anything? I would
love to see them live. I also have a weird quesion....what is "alice
childress" about? I love that song. The words seem to be so true....or
at least fitting. Well, also...does anyone have the piano tabs for both
albums. I wanna learn how to play a bunch of the songs. any info on
all this would be appreciated. Thanks all!

I dunno who was looking for a band name, but I think of one almost every
day... 'Subterranean Zeus': that'd be some kind of heavy metal thrash
band; 'Friends of Sam': some kind of funky jazz ensemble...
Anyway, don't wanna throw my trash all over the armchair, it's covered
in enough junk mail as it is, so there's two for the road and if you're
really interested (I wont hold my breath) write to me personally. :D

The Wallflowers first single was the brilliant "Ashes to Ashes" off of their

Padoing! Back again. And guess who forgot to unsub from the Armchair
before he went away? Doh! Actually, it wasn't too bad. I only had 156
mails waiting for me, and seeing as I forgot to unsub from the Super
Deluxe list as well, that's not bad going. Plus the mountain of damn
junk mail I got. Aarrrggh!
Anyway, err, um, oh, I don't really have a whole lot of BFF stuff to
tell/ask. Except what happened that we had to have a reminder about
"Personal Attacks" at the top of every Armchair? That's a real shame.
Someone reading the Armchair for the first time may well see that,
decide that we all hate each other's guts and flame each other all
the time, and unsub again. Is it really necessary Frank? Can't we
just have a stern warning for those fools involved?
Oh, and I think we ought to keep an eye on this "What's in my CD
changer" thread. Personally, I find it quite interesting, but it's
mighty similar to the "My 10 top favourite albums" thread we had a
couple of months back that got a whole lot of people riled (and
unusubbed). If anyone is interested, nothing is in my CD player at
the moment, because I'm always listening to a copy of "Via
Satellite" by Super Deluxe on cassette....
As for proper BFF content, I'm mighty surprised that the band aren't
returning to Sheffield Leadmill on their UK tour in December. This is
always a very popular venue and always a good gig, I believe. What
made them go to flipping Bradford? And why aren't they playing
Birmingham? Especially as they cancelled when they were last due to
play here. So now I have to make the decision whether to go to
Manchester or London. Or both....(*sigh* I wish...)
That is all...
Mark

Subject: Re: Ben and the Boys on MuchMusic
I've been on vacation for awhile, but as I returned, I was pleasantly
surprised to see that my girlfriend had taped a BF5 segment on MuchMusic
for me (She's a fan, albeit not as big as I am, but ever since we caught a
free BF5 show in Lexington, VA, she's been trippin' on them quite
regularly). Anywho, the segment is about five minutes long and features
Robery and Ben running around Toronto (? maybe Montreal) interviewing
people about whether or not they have heard of them. After this segment,
they go to the OAD video and when they come out of it, the zoned-out vj
tries to make comments about this band whom she has obviuosly never
listened to; however, one thing she did say that certainly caught my ear
was the tidbit that "OAD is a revenge song, so be vareful. And ladies,
Ben's been married twice."
So, what's the deal? Has Ben been married twice, and if so, to whom? Hey,
his private life is none of my business, but I was curious as to whether or
not this was accurate or a terrible bit of misinformation to put out there
if false.
My changer is a little eclectic, but here goes:
Radiohead - O.K. Computer (I must agree: a masterpiece)
God's Property - "Stomp" is just so accessible
Big Head Todd - Midnight Radio
Rage - Evil Empire
Hothouse Flowers - People
Of course, I can only listen to this on random.
