I let my best friend, who I thought I could trust, borrow the first Ben Folds
cd; my favorite one, and she lost it so now I have to special order it and
wait to get a new one. So if you're thinking about letting any of your
friends borrow Ben Folds, don't. I had to write this because I was upset.

Hello to you all!! I have alot tosay but... I am wondering if there are any
'transcripts' or whatever they're called for a cello? I know there isn't a
cello on all the songs, but it's really beautiful and I play the cello
so..that would be cool if I could play it..I don't have a cd changer or
whatever but my fav bands are Ben Folds Five, They Might Be Giants, and the
soundtracks to Romeo and Juliet!!(cool to you who likes that!) Oh, I have 3
bootlegs and would love anything anyone has having to do w/the fab5...Enough
of that... Barbara "where the hell I ended up on this glary

Well fellow Helmet Heads/Armchairians, I'm going to see Ben Folds
Five on October 23rd at the State Theatre in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Wew. I am so hyped about this, and cannot wait.
I've been a BF5 fan for awhile now and unfortunately, have never
seen them live. What more can I say? I am overwhelmed that I'm going
to be able to see them play in a somewhat small venue!!! I was
wondering - some tips from people who have seen them - can you bring
cameras/recording devices or does it seem to depend on the venue? Many
people on the web seem to have pics with the guys, do they 'mingle?' (I
hope I hope!) Their music means a lot to me - many songs 'hitting home'
somewhat...they're just great musicians/songwriters. And I think being
a pianist myself I'm probably a little biased towards a 'rock' band that
can incorporate a piano as a focal point.
Anyways, I've been on the list for some time now, and felt the need
to post expressing my excitement to see one of my fave bands live...I
take it you all can relate to me. Take care all.
Best wishes,
Kerry

Hello again all archair readers. I hope everyone is having a wonderful
day. Mine was just peachy....note the sarcasim (sp). Anyway, my main
question is about the upcoming tour. Is the chicago date at a big
place? Where can i get tickets? Any other info would be really
helpful. I wanna go sooooo bad. Also, what's up with the new album
thing? Is this a joke or is there really gonna be a new one soon. They
should put out a live album. Ohg well, enough babble for now.

Hey y'all. It's been a long time since I actually wrote anything here
instead of just lurking, but I guess I haven't really had anything
interesting to add. I am totally psyched that the boys will finally be
returning to the area (NC triangle) on October 18th. Anybody going to the
show at the Ritz, please contact me and maybe we can meet or drive over
together. Also, anybody who is thinking of coming to North Carolina for
that show is welcome to contact me about a place to stay while here, etc.
Speaking of North Carolina, I just saw a new movie made by a local guy
(John Schultz of Raleigh) called Bandwagon. I believe it is playing in the
big cities around the US. If you get a chance, you should check it out.
It's about the trials and tribs of a new band from NC trying to break in.
Lots of it was filmed in the same clubs that Ben et al played in back in
the early days such as the Brewery in Raleigh, the Cats Cradle in Carrboro,
and the Rialto in Raleigh. It's a really realistic look (for the movies)
at band culture especially here in NC.
Re Dumped: I believe the girl that dumped Darren and broke his little
heart way back when was none other than Summer Burke, or Summer B as you
may know her. As far as I know, she has yet to return a certain black T
shirt.
OK, I'll play along:
1. Belle and Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister
2. Sister 7 - This the Trip
3. Treble Charger - Maybe It's Me ( highly recommend this to BFF Fans!)
4. Fountains of Wayne
5. Lords of Acid - Our Little Secret
Be good.

Okay, I know at least one person lives in the wonderous Arbor of
Ann, so I was wondering who plans on being at the show at Eastern
Michigan? I definitely want to go, and even if I have to kill my one
frined with a press pass for the Michigan Daily and use that, I'm going.
Actually, if a bunch of people want to get together and car-pool (save the
environment and all that) that'd be cool madness as well. Anyway, since
they're coming right next door to me, and I haven't done it in a long
time, there's only one response I can give.
JOYGASM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ERIC
P.S. If you're up for the carpool thing, e-mail to ME directly, so we
don't dirty up Frank's nice clean family site. ;)

I just own WaEA, havent bought self-titled yet. I know, I know...cant be a
real fan w/o both, Im college student without money so give me a break.
Anyway, how do y;all compare the two. I just wanted to know so I can judge
how urgently I need to purchase the CD. Mostly I like the deeper and
depressing songs...(e.g. Missing the War, Brick, Evaporated) So with that
mentality how does the first compare to the second??
Appreciate the input...

Subject: why the armchair is getting a little dreary...
I am sick and tired of people on here trashing Hanson because "their
lyrics don't mean anything". Hello, but since when did lyrics have to
mean anything? You want an example of meaningless lyrics, look at 'Love
me do' - and no one bags the Beatles! (And if you really want an example
- - look at '1 angry dwarf' - that's pretty meaningless). That's not to
say that these songs are bad, on the contrary! Both of these songs prove
how 'deep' lyrics are really not essential to make a great song. And for
christ's sake, they're only 15! You want them to be writing about
suicide or (dare I say it) abortion? Pop songs don't have to (and never
have had to) contain 'meaningful' lyrics (something which is totally
subjective to opinion anyway); what's important about something like
'Mmm Bop' is that it's happy, groovy and easy to dance to (you may
disagree...in fact, I know you will) and what's more, it's popular. So
bloody good luck to them, I say! (I'm not defending the band because I'm
a fan, I'm defending them because I respect their achievements, and I
think that lends far more credence to my argument)
In the same vein (sorry, this is a gripe letter) can we please put a
halt to the discussions about Brick vs. Dumped? Isn't anyone else sick
of reading the same posts over and over, a la: "Dumped is better"..."How
can you say Dumped is better?! Brick is better"... blah blah and so on
ad infinitum. Instead of analysing purely these two songs, why isn't
anyone talking about other excellent songs on the album, for example '1
angry dwarf...', or, for that matter, songs off the self-titled? :|
Sometimes I think the armchair is a little closed-minded.
Cheers, Petra

| To the guy who wanted to know where "Dumped" came from:
|
| Darren's girlfriend broke up with him, so he got drunk and
| wrote this
| letter out to himself or God or whoever, and Robert and
| Ben found it, and
| they composed it into a song after Darren passed out.
| Voila, you have
| "Dumped". I don't know who the girl was or why she dumped
| him, but she
| was pretty dumb to dump him.
| How do I know this? I have a bootleg of a concert where
| Ben describes
| where the song came from to the audience, so this is true.
| Does this
| answer your question? :)
Be careful here. While this particular story may be true, the fact that Ben
says it in concert IN NO WAY makes it true. He makes shit up all the time,
just to be goofy. I think it's great. I love hearing all the stuff he says
when I can get to see them, or when I listen to somebody's tape of a concert.
But in any case, don't ALWAYS believe what you hear.

Hmm, something weird going on here... 5 digests, 4 of which contained

On a moaning note, maybe it's my mind playing tricks, but it seems
like loads of people have posted the US tour dates. Why? Frank
already posted them! If you really think people might have missed
them, why not point them in the direction of Frank's (or my) web
page? And if you're thinking of people who might not have web access,
ask them to mail you if they really need those dates. Please. Please.
Thank you. Sorry to moan. I'll cheer up, I promise. Don't flame me
for being sensible...
Righto. Umm, any word on a UK single soon? I would have thought they
would have released something else after Kate. Then again, maybe they
already did. Darkest Somerset (where I've been for the past few
weeks) is a long long way from the real world. I caught something
about "Brick" being released. Is that in the US or what? Please mail
me if you have any info...
