To John or anyone else who might know,
I'm curious as to how BFF treated the song when they covered it, and I'm
also curious as to where and on what tour they did this. If they would've
gone into it at either one of the shows I've seen them at this past year,
I would've gone ballistic!
Matt
P.S. Nice to know that there are other EC and Squeeze fans on this list!
As an interesting aside, I saw Glenn Tillbrook perform a solo show armed
with only an acoustic guitar the other night and I must say that it was
the best solo acoustic performance I've ever seen in my life (and I've
seen plenty) and in my Top 10 concerts of all time easily. He did
requests, covers, obscurities, and let audience members sing onstage. It
was great!

'N' Roses (and I tell you, it takes a lot to admit that).>>
Whoever made the original post about the Counting Crows... I recently saw
the Counting Crows for the first time live and I whole-heartedly agree that
Adam, Matt, and the gang are among the two best live acts that this
armchairite has ever seen (up there with Ben of course). I also might say
that I have been to many, many concerts... (and also proudly add that G N R
is not in the list of those shows).
So, in other words.. there are other bf5 fans that dig the CC. :)

Watched the aftermath of the BFF experience on midday today. Didn't see
the actual event but I heard all about it. Kerri-anne and Jeff were
still crapping on today, Jeff going so far as to say that Ben is not a
pianist and that the band is not musical. Very professional. So I sent
them a letter. Anyhoo, anyone going to the monash show tomaorrow night
I'll see you there. Might be at the POW show next month too.

Subject: the kerri ann controversy and some theories about the 5's new image (?)
I am one of those 200 solemn faces who missed the 5's Kerri Anne
performance (dammit dammit dammit - thought it was going to be
Thursday...) but from what I've heard it sounds a bit of a mess.
Personally I don't even know why they would want to appear on that show
- - average age of the audience is about 55. Ben probably threw his stool
out of frustration: "They're all fucking OLD, mannnn..!" *CRASH* (there
go a few piano keys).
My theory is that rock stars have always tried to be controversial, and
people have always let them do it because they're rock stars, and it's
kinda written in stone that they're allowed to trash instruments and
whatever. But it seems to me that following WEAEA the boys have been
trying to be a little 'badder' than usual. (Please don't all jump on me
for that, it's just an opinion). Perhaps they are sick of the 'happy,
friendly' image they gave with the first album that has seemed to stick
to their name like a faded piece of 50's laminex wallcovering, despite a
lot of the songs being so much more profound than just 'happy'. Their
new album is filled with a lot more angst (and SWEARING...shock, horror)
than the self-titled; even Robert said in an aussie interview recently
that WEAEA is a lot darker and painted in a different tone to the first
album.
So maybe with this new tone they are trying to create a new image for
themselves in an attempt to shake off the simplistic labels they
originally generated for themselves.
Just a thought
Cheers, Petra

Hey Everyone,
This message is directed mostly towards Doug Goodman, the bands tour
manager, and I know he reads the Armchair frequently...
Doug, when I chewed your ear off at the HORDE in Columbus, I thought
you understood that you needed to get the boys to the Rochester or
Buffalo, NY area. Well, I'm sure its not entirely your fault. You
probably tried as hard as you could, but found that every possible venue
in between Buffalo and Syracuse was booked solid for the entire Fall.
Right? Please tell me that's the case.
It's not too late, however, to keep trying. I'm still holding out for a
Rochester date. It could happen. Couldn't it?
So as it stands, I'm tentatively planning a road trip out to Cleveland.
Granted, it isn't as bad as the last two times I had to drive to see the
band (7 hours to Columbus and 8 hours to Rhode Island), but for once I'd
like to be able to see Ben, Darren and Robert in my hometown.
I'm sure all of you fans in Australia and are overflowing with sympathy,
and I'm sure I'll be attacked for my whining, but I don't think its
unreasonable to hope that they boys stop by Rochester for an appearance.
Oh well.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

First, to those of you who are rambling about why the tour would skip a
venue they hit earlier this year. This is their SECOND go around this year,
so just MAYBE they want to hit a couple venues they missed the first time.
You can't please all the people all the time. Sure, I am upset they won't be
in St. Louis, but hey, I would drive anywhere to see them. So save those
pennies for gas and road trip like I will be doing. Fortunately, I have also
been saving my vacation days so I can spend the night instead of driving all
night long.
Second, the loungapalooza CD hits the market on October 7, for the
general public. Happy listening.
Third, I will be at the VIC if anyone wants to say hi (10-30).
Later,
- -Erik.

ROCK ON W/YOUR BAD SELVES!!! This must be what Robert means when he
says they want to make it on their own terms. Was this just another
typical BFF performance (probably) or a well-planned, not-too-subtle
marketing ploy on the boys' part? Just think of the publicity such
controversy could generate! (BTW, I know the answer to that question-a
typical performance-but it's still fun to think of it as an
attention-getting feat:-)!) It reminds me of the beginning of The Kids
Are Alright where the Who destroy their equipment on the Smothers
Brothers Show. May BFF enjoy the longevity of the Who (God knows BFF's
music is better, + so do I:-)).

I don't know if this is the right place to send this. I've been at school
for a coupl weeks now and not been able to get the armchair here so I don't
really know what's going on. My brother told me that he checked the other
day and there was some debate about Brick being released next. I don't
know if this has been confirmed yet, but if you look in the little book
that comes with Whatever you'll see that all the songs that have been
released do not have parenthesis around the name of the writer (i.e.
(B.Folds) and B.Folds) This has followed through with Dwarf, BOWCCL, and
Kate. The next one it looks like and the only one left is Selfless, Cold,
and Composed. I don't know it's probably nothing, but hey it takes about a
lot of procrstination time. Also because I'm so out of touch, what
happened to BFF coming out east in the fall at H.O.R.D.E. this summer
Robert told me they would but I haven't heard anything about it. Can
anyone fill me in?

Hi,
I can't find out anywhere how much the tickets cost for the October 31st
show at Lakewood Civic Auditorium show in Cleveland. They go on sale
tomorrow (or at least I thought, that's what they've said on the radio)
and I need to find out. The radio phone line is always busy and ticket
master said that no information came up for it (I talked to the lady
too!). So, I don't know how else to find out. If anyone knows, please
email me ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks,

It was so unexpected.:) (Bear with me, this IS BFF related.) So
I was hanging out w/ my friends Nathan and Christine and this kid Adrian
who I'd never met before and I was driving them all home and "Song for the
Dumped" came on (I was playing WAEA in my car, it wasnt on the radio or
nothin) and Christine mentioned how she loved the Chinese version of the
song and I'm all "Whered you hear that from," thinking maybe she'd heard
it in my car at some point. Turns out she was at Music Shack and sombody
there gave her a couple of the BFF B-side samplers..and she said I could
have it :) :) :) I dropped her off and she went in & got it and I have in
my posession a brand spankin new BFF sampler. :> It was amazing because
I'd NEVER expected to own one, ya know, I thought I'd never find one, but
somehow I did :) And I looked and saw that Mitchell Lane was on it, I'd
never heard Mitchell Lane before so it made my month. :) Mitchell Lane,
btw, is a kickass song. I love it. Its kinda depressing but its awesome,
especially really loud :) Ok, thats my story, sorry to bore all of you :)
Dont get mad though because it IS, after all, BFF related, right?
