I know some of you are tired of this subject but I decided to share my
point of view...

Last sept. I was at a Dave Matthews Concert and all these people twice
my size kept falling on me and kicking me in the head and it put a
damper on a wondrous concert. Please don't crowd surf or if you do,
keep and hands, feet and objects inside the vehicle at all times.

Thanks for you time,

Okay everyone, thanks for the enthusiastic response to my Dr. Peyser
question! I certainly came to the right place (even though I've gotten
some contradictory answers, but oh well) Now, I have a follow-up
question: Do you prounounce it like "pie-ser" or "pay-ser"? Hmmmm...

By the way, LoungeAPalooza kicks ass! Not just Ben and the gang, but PJ
Harvey, Steve and Eydie, Fun Lovin' Criminals--I highly recommend it!

who out there is going to the Cleveland show on Halloween?
I'd liek to know, are you going to dress up? I have a party to go to
afterwards and I'd LIKE to go dressed up (as a clown) then again i'd rather
NOT but i don't want to look stupid if i AM dressed up and i don't want to
look stupid if i'm the only one NOT. wow, i sound like a really stupid
follower-type person. Oh well i guess now that i'm in college, i have to be.

Also, does anyone know who is opening for BF5 at Cleveland?

One more thing, my two bits on moshing (groan):
I used to go to shows all the time, just to mosh. Shows like KMFDM,
Bosstones, etc. I didn't mosh at the Moody Blues. I didn't mosh at Yes. in
fact, no one did.
Now, which of these shows do you think BF5 is most like? i think there's a
time and place for everything.
The first BF5 show I went to, no one moshed and everyone just sang along.
it was GREAT. the second, it was a crazy mess. people weren't moshing, per
se, BUT they were dancing and flailing their arms all over the place, thus
smacking me and my friends in the face and whatnot. Dancing and grooving is
cool, but when you get in my face i have the right to be mad. And don't
tell me to move, cause i have as much right to be there as you.

anyhow, i'm ranting. If anyone has any input on the Cleveland show, please
mail me.

Dr Pyser is an original Ben Folds Five song. Finexampl, you may have a
"photographic" mind (not sure how that relates to audio, but whateer) but
it's an original, written in the style of a cheesy 70s drama theme song.
I have found no proof that there was ever a show, movie, filmstrip,
whatever, called Dr Pyser. The fact that it sounds familiar shows that
Ben and co. achieved their goal, which is apparently a pastiche 70s theme
song. I love that people think it's real...I bet Ben would love it too.
They succeeded.

Subject: strange rant...

I just had this weird little epiphany... Perhaps this is just me being an
idiot (with no comment from the peanut gallery, Marcus), but someone on my
university's network neighborhood had posted lyrics from the Counting Crows
song "Anna Begins," (which I haven't heard in a long, long time) and it
reminded me for some reason of "Brick". The whole idea of the singer
realizing he might not be in love with someone with a physical need
(whether it be epilepsy or post-abortion trauma), but that girl needing him
to make a decision... Anyway, that just hit me all of a sudden and I
thought I'd share... Isn't it cool to have a place where you can say all
the little things that BFF does to your head and no one says, "Really, you
do think about that band far too much..." Ahhh, sweet home, the Armchair...

Every way to smile, forget, and make believe

But there's nothing else I can really do ... at all"

Hey all--

I haven't posted in a while, which is quite a departure from my days on
the good ol' manually run Armchair. Anyway, a couple of thoughts from me:

1. I heard about a Chicago show on 30 October with Verbow (a great
band)...anyone confirm this, location, prices, etc.?

2. The whole Pearl Jam vs. Ticketmaster thing...I have a funny feeling
that Congress would have taken them a whole lot more seriously if they
wouldn't have shown up in t-shirts and hats. Pearl Jam was just the wrong
group of people to try to change that monopoly.

3. I'm going to have to confirm that other post talking about how "Eddie
Walker, This is Your Life" is a great song. But I'm going to have to go
with "Protection". That is an incredible song. I want to get them to
play it in concert, but the shows are getting too damn big (from 150
people at the Club Gotham in Cincinnati in 1996 to 1000 at Bogart's in
Cincy in 1997 to a few thousand at HORDE this summer), and I don't think
they're as likely to play requests. Not AS likely...read that correctly.

Well, that's it. See y'all around.

Hi,
I'm new to the armchair but most of you probably know my
boyfriend, Dave, Atropos, Clotho, or maybe one of his many other names.
I just wanted to let my presents be known and to surprise him, he dosen't
know that I've joined! I also wanted to relay my disappointment in BFF
moving their Bloomington show to Indy. (I am a freshman at IU) Well I'm
happy to be finally a part of the arnchair and I'm looking forward to my
first digest.

*cough splutter* I have only just managed to dig myself out of a dense
pile of armchair magazines...how many of these do we have to get per
day?? Is there any possibility that the no. can be reduced to...1? Don't
get me wrong, I love reading it, but when you don't check your mail
every day you get submerged with back-editions.

On another note - along with the Rage special on Saturday (I am
determined NOT to miss this one, if I do I will be severely depressed
and everyone will hear about it) channel V (yes, that's right, the
dreaded FOXTEL monster) is broadcasting a Livid special on the 18th of
October (and also part 2 at a later date this month). So don't miss it -
I'm not sure if they're airing footage from the festival or just video
clips, but at any rate you'll get to see the fabulous 5 at some stage.

For the benefit of those who are too poor to buy WHO magazine or live
somewhere where they can't get it, here is the 5 Q's and A's they
recently asked the boys:

1. How is it being compared to Billy Joel in the tour press release?
Ben: Our people did that? Heads will roll!
2. Which person has most recently impressed you? Robert: I've never
heard anyone say "fuck" as many times in a row as Geoff Harvey did
[off-camera]
3. Which sentence in the english language would you hope to never have
to hear again? Ben: would you guys like to play our Tv show?
4. What would you be if you weren't a musician? Ben: Maybe a barber.
Robert: A microbiologist. Darren: I'd like to be mailin' stuff to
people.
5. How do you see yourself in 20 years time? Ben: Probably running a
glorified Holiday Inn-kinda lounge band for a tv show.

Gotta love 'em, eh?

Cheers, Petra

PS: where can I get this lovely BF5 windows desktop wallpaper that
someone mentioned?
PPS: In response to MATT - I too would love to hear them cover
Subterranean Homesick Blues - one of my fave songs ever. Reckon they
could do it?

Subject: Wedding Rings, Pina Coladas, and Ticket Monger

Someone asks about Ben's wedding ring (or the lack thereof) when he
plays. As a drummer, when I was married, I usually played w/out my
ring. I know, I know, it's wrong + all (maybe that's why I'm divorced)
but it simply gets in the way.
Someone else mentions the Pina Colada song. That is the song's
parenthetical title, so it's OK to call it that.
Then someone has the gall to defend the most evil company associated
w/the music industry-Ticketmaster. I'll address a few of your points:
nice grammer
Actually, there's nothing grammatically incorrect about the sentence
"Ticketmaster is such bullshit." Ticketmaster is a company, one entity,
and therefore takes the singular.
you do have the option of showing up at the club and getting tickets at
the door, or I'm
sure the club has a box office that will be more than happy to sell you
tickets if you wish to get them early.
This usually isn't the case anymore. One can either pay the
devil...oops...Ticketmaster its due or wait until 2 hours before show
time + take the chance of not getting a ticket. If people had a choice,
they wouldn't bitch. If bands had a choice, they wouldn't go through
Ticketmaster. The part PJ was complaining about is the exclusivity
contracts most theatres have w/Ticketf*cker, which is still an issue,
even if your self-righteous butt is tired of hearing about it.
really I should keep my nose in my own business
Yes you should.

Subject: My BBF experience so far...

Hi all,
I've been lurking here for a while but this is my first posting. Here's
my expereience so far.....
It was the Monday before the Martin Place gig in Sydney and I'd never
had enough money spare to buy BFF's first album. But I'd finished my
exams and so I attacked my piggy bank and managed scrape up thirty
bucks, my lucky day! So I go down to Maquarie Centre in North Ryde to
buy it and both albums were sold out in the entire centre. I couldn't
believe it, I never thought that BFF were so popular!
So I rock up to Martin Place on Tuesday and there wasn't really anyone
there when I turned up but eventually people arrived. I couldn't believe
how close I was to the guys considering that their record was sold out
at Macquarie!
So after the gig I tell Robert that I couldn't buy the record and he
said to me "Have you tried HMV". Well, I hadn't because there isn't one
in Macquarie but I bought WEAEA again for my boyfriend (who only came
along becasue i begged him to) and got a free t-shirt (now he loves BFF
ha!). So I get my shirt signed and the cd, only Ben signed the cd twice
because my friend had already had him sign it and I didnt realise. So
Ben gave me a funny look when he signed it again and said "She must
really like my name". Let's just say I was embarassed!
For the next two weeks I continue to listen to BFF non-stop and while
doing so I find myself driving to Brisbane to go to Livid.
I turn up wearing my signed BFF t-shirt feeling proud as punch to own
such a shirt.
Seeing them play again sent me into seventh heaven. They were absolutely
amazing as usual and I sang every word (to the songs that are on WEAEA
and Undergrounnd)and grooved along. I was in the second row behing the
barrier but i couldn't see Darren because the piano was in the way. I
figured it didn't matter because I had seen him at MP (He was the only
one I watched that day because I play drums and I'd never seen anyone
with facials like that!) and I couldn't move even if I wanted to.
When they finished i just stood there and stared at the stage but I was
cruely pulled away to see the likes of the Bloodhound gang.
BFF have revolutionised my CD player.
 Thanks for reading my bable,
 Jocelyn.

Allright folks, because I too am obsessed with the Lounge-A-Palooza CD, I
will say what I know, it is coming out October 15th. That is next Wednesday.

Regarding moshing: I think you Aussies are much more polite than we
Americans. Moshing out here mostly involves punk kids in leather jackets,
and it basically involves throwing people into other people, or punching
out with you fists in any direction you see fit.

Regarding moshing being jumping up and down in one spot, that is good clean
fun, and assuming that no one gets hurt, that is fine, but throwing people
into other people isn't fine.

Beware of this album. "She Don't Use Jelly" is just about the only
redeeming quality of the whole CD. I was personally taken aback when I
didn't see Faith No More covering Burt Bacharach's "This Guy's in Love With
You," (which was excellent in concert) instead Fastball does an awful
rendition. Seriously, in my humble opinion, wait to see if Ben Folds Five
puts "She Don't Use Jelly" out that album of b-sides before picking up
Lounge-a-palooza. Later.
