First of all, I'd like to defend my hometown by saying that Boston is not
the only city BF5 is visiting twice within a couple of months. They
played in Charlotte on Oct. 17 and will be playing there again on Dec. 5.
And Ben said at the Oct. show that he likes Charlotte because the radio
stations there play them alot!

To Jordan, re the Chapel Hill show: It's next Tuesday, the 11th, at Cat's
Cradle. Last I heard, everyone was sold out of tickets except for
Poindexter Records in Durham.

To the armchairites who e-mailed me about meeting before the show, I got
your mail! I'm going to drive down to the Cradle this weekend and figure
out a good, close place for us to meet before the show, so I'll write
y'all this weekend and let you know the when and where!

I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL THE 11TH!!!! :)

Ginger :)

Subject: BFF blurbs

Hi Y'all,

In Manhattan's TV Guide, there's an "Editor's Choice" box, with a
picture of Beck, recommending PBS' Sessions at West 54th for 11:30 p.m.
EST on Saturday, Nov. 8. It talks about Beck, then says, "Opening the
hour is the piano-based trio Ben folds Five, jamming on 'Missing the
War,' 'One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces,' 'Brick,' 'Smoke,' and
'Underground.'"

And, in the Nov. 10 New Yorker, the Supper Club concert blurb for BFF
reads: "A smart, piano-based trio from Chapel Hill, led by Folds, who
plays a wondrously jaunty baby grand and sings like a cross between Joe
Jackson and Freddie Mercury. With the Brit pop of Travis and the
guitar-and-cello stylings of Verbow."

And the lesson(s) to be learned from this? Well, it's fun to read about
BFF, for one, and, the best way to describe BFF is "a piano-based trio"!

Take care,
Cynthia

Hey eye candies,
I noticed that someone mentioned that Brick was going to be on 120
minutes at midnight on Sunday. I know I'm a meathead, but is that the
midnight between Saturday & Sunday or the midnight between Sunday &
Monday?

I didn't have a full view, but my view from front/center on the barrier it
just looked like the guard escorted him off the side of the stage, down the

him talking about how he was going to jump on the stage, but I thought he
was just joking.

This is not a big deal but thank you mr. tim hudetz for backing me up.
The reason why I was so sure it was "sell some kid that I got" is because
ben actually "mugged" to the audience when he said it. Like, "How do you
like this?!"
It sounds like "kid" on my recording but of course I'm biased. Just
thought it was an interesting tid-bit.

Subject: Anyone else really disappointed by NBP track listing?

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm REALLY REALLY excited to get this album...
I've been waiting for Eddie Walker on CD for ages, and I can't wait to
hear Emaline with the acoustic guitar... hell, there are a lot of tracks
I'm looking forward to checking out.

BUT.

I'm really really disappointed that so few of the songs that were
recorded early on but not included in the 1st album were not stuck on
this CD... most notably, I was really hoping for "Rocky", "Kalamazoo",
"Guilty", "Protection" and "Cool Whip"... well, mostly the first four,
but Cool Whip cracks me up... I was also hoping dearly that "Video
Killed The Radio Star" and "Crosstown Traffic" would be included. What
I did *not* hope to see were the tracks that have already been released
(Fanny Packs, Bad Idea demo, Satan Is My Master, Underground live),
which were already made available to fans... oh well.

Anyways, I'm certainly going to snag the disc the second it comes out --
it still sounds great despite my disappointments... guess I just get to
hope that a few more of those early tunes make it onto the 3rd studio
album or something... and cross my fingers in hopes of Video Killed The
Radio Star making it as a b-side or something.

One question:

Does anyone know if "Tom & Mary", "Emaline" and "Eddie Walker" are going
to be the same exact versions as have been fairly easily available on
bootlegs for a couple years now? I know the boys said Emaline included
an acoustic guitar, and I definately can't hear one on that version...
oh well, just curious.

Bye, all!

(and yeah, I still think BFF is just about the best rock band in the
world... that track listing is definately not enough of a disappointment
to affect my opinion of the boys)

My three desert isle songs:

Jackson Cannery (to sing to)
Boxing (to cry to)
Julianne (to jump around to)

Someone once asked GK Chesterton, if he were stranded on a desert
island, what one book he would want with him.
His response was "Johnson's Practical Guide to Shipbuilding".

Too bad about Bill Berry & REM. Though REM has already changed alot
from what they started as (a much more mellow sound that i prefer), this
pretty much finishes it. They'll still be a great band, for sure, just
not the same REM as always. One thing they must never lose, though:
that sort-of nasal harmony from Mike Mills. What would REM be without
him?

Jerry

to Heather! for her valid on point observation re: Beck.

True that, my fellow BFF friend. . .beck is TRULY a masterpiece. It is a
great night when I get to see 2 of my most fav artists in a "cozy" setting.
Although, because I have always thought Beck was such a genius, I made
him out to be a little taller than he really is. Met him during HORDE and he is
a pretty little guy. . .but, his music isn't!

Only 68 days until I get to see some Naked Baby Photos. . .Let the
